RESUMO

Abdominal hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the uterus through an incision in the abdominal wall. Hysterectomy is associated with a number of complications; hence, early mobilization and physiotherapy are necessary following surgery. This is a case report of a 45-year-old female who presented with complaints of abdominal pain associated with white discharge. Investigations showed an anterior submucosal fibroid measuring 3.2x2.7 cm and the patient underwent an abdominal hysterectomy. Early mobilization and physiotherapy were started on Day 6, which included breathing exercises, upper limb mobility, lower limb mobility, and positioning and postural advice. Yoga and pilates therapy were integrated into the protocol starting from the second week. The patient attended 30 days of therapy in two phases and was advised to continue even after discharge. We concluded that this unique approach of including pilates and yoga showed a positive impact on the patient's condition in terms of her quality of life, strength, endurance, and power, even decreasing her difficulty in performing activities of daily living.

RESUMO

Musculoskeletal illnesses or ailments that are linked to work-related risk factors are known as work-related musculoskeletal conditions. For this study, chronic neck pain is defined as the discomfort experienced between the C1 and C7 anatomic areas of the cervical spine as well as the adjacent muscles, excluding the shoulders. In the workplace, the term "ergonomics" refers to the interactions between workers and other workplace components. Clinically, deep cervical flexor training and retraining are used for treating neck pain and enhancing the capacity to maintain an upright posture. Ergonomic training and therapeutic exercises are significantly effective in reducing pain and disability and enhancing posture in the cervical region.

RESUMO

Birth abnormalities affecting the lymphatic system include cystic lymphangiomas. They are rare in adults and typically happen in childhood. The cause of adult cystic hygroma (CH), which has a benign nature, is yet unknown. Seventy-five percent of lymphatic malformations have a CH as their primary site of origin in the head and neck area. We describe a 36-year-old female case of cervical cystic lymphangioma who complained of swelling on the left side of her neck for two years. There was no prior history of fever, trauma, weight loss, appetite loss, discharge, or swallowing difficulties. The doctor advised investigations like computed tomography neck, ultrasound sonography neck, etc., and was diagnosed with cystic lymphangioma. Early physiotherapy seems beneficial in preserving shoulder movement and minimizing pain in individuals. Cryotherapy is useful in treating patients with lymphangioma after surgery to reduce pain and swelling. This clinical case study demonstrates how patients with cystic lymphangiomas can benefit from physical treatment and regain their functional independence.

RESUMO

Oral cancer is a type of malignant neoplasia that develops in the oral cavity or lips and is commonly referred to as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) because of its histopathology. In this report, we present to you a case of a 35-year-old male patient operated on for moderately differentiated SCC of the lateral border of the tongue and right buccal mucosa with a two-year-old case of trans-femoral amputation. Postoperatively, the patient faced issues with breathing, mouth opening and closing limitations, and painful movements of the neck and right shoulder. An intensive physiotherapy care regimen was designed and consistently implemented for two weeks to tackle the surgical results that were compromising the patient's quality of life. At the two-week evaluation, enhancements in tongue movement, mouth opening, shoulder and cervical joint movement, thoracic mobility, lower limb strength, and gait were seen, confirming the efficacy of the intended therapy. The patient was assessed before and after the rehabilitation using range of motion, manual muscle testing, the Mallampati scale, the numerical pain rating scale, the amputee mobility predictor assessment tool, and the Royapettah scoring system.

RESUMO

Increased muscle stiffness can result in a reduced range of motion (ROM) and impaired function. An increased ankle injury risk has been associated with reduced ankle dorsiflexion ROM. Although self-myofascial release (SMFR) is commonly used in clinical and sporting settings, little is known about its impact on gastrocnemius and Achilles tendon (AT) stiffness. As a result, we investigated how SMFR using a foam roller (FR) affects gastrocnemius-AT complex stiffness and ankle dorsiflexion ROM. According to these results, self-myofascial relaxation of the gastrocnemius and an improvement in ankle dorsiflexion ROM can be accomplished by rolling an FR along the calf. Myofascial release (MFR) is a type of manual therapy that involves stretching the myofascial complex with a light load and for a long duration in order to restore optimal length, relieve pain, and improve function. Viscoelastic deformation is the rapid increase in muscle length following stretching.

RESUMO

Electrical injuries are uncommon but not completely rare. It is most prevalent in the male population, although females are also affected in the workplace or household-related activities. These injuries usually occur in situations where proper precautions are not taken by the individual and also appropriate safety drills and education for personnel are not carried out. Electrical burns affecting children are very rare, but when they do occur, it is usually due to accidental contact with exposed electrical sources. In this patient, there were severe levels of secondary complications following the burn injury. The patient developed blood infections and also was hampered in doing a variety of activities of daily living. The patient was diagnosed with 45%-50% body surface area (BSA) covered with burns, which suggests its severe nature. Treatment focuses on preventing wound infection, managing the excruciating amount of pain, preventing complications of immobility, promoting mobility as much as the patient can, and also educating the patient and the family members.

RESUMO

Amputation is the surgical removal of a body part or limb caused by excessive tightness, pathological conditions, or a surgical procedure on an extremity. Transtibial amputation involves removing the feet, ankle, distal part of the tibia, and fibula with the surrounding structures like connective tissues and other structures surrounding the distal part of the bone. This type of surgery has a high rate of contraindications but has adequate indications; it maintains a therapeutic technique with a high clinical price and, in general, lifesaving value. The primary objectives of rehabilitation are to improve normal and affected extremity power, patient mobility, aerobic capacity, coordination and balance, and independence in performing activities of daily living. In this case, the patient was a 50-year-old man who complained of pain in his left lower limb and had an ulcer on his left foot. Initially, it was small in size when noticed by the patient but gradually progressed to a large wound of 7x6cm over the medial side, with foul-smelling discharge, associated with blackish discoloration. Walking aggravated foot pain, which was relieved by standing still, medications, and rest. On investigation, the patient was diagnosed with gangrene in the left lower limb and referred for rehabilitation to the physiotherapy department after surgery. This case study provides information on the recovery of a patient with the help of prosthetic devices.

RESUMO

Amputation is more common in men than women, a lot of studies suggest this. It is the complete or partial removal of an extremity through a surgical process and is said to be a life-saving procedure performed in various critical conditions. The main objective of amputating a limb or any part at a level is that it should be carried out in a way that will give a stump of optimum length to facilitate the prosthetic fitting at later stages. After amputation, the patients are usually trained with prostheses so that they can carry on with functional activities without any restrictions. One of the disorders seen in infants and children is congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV). It is characterized by plantarflexion at the ankle joint, inversion at the subtalar joint, and adduction at the forefoot. There are various factors and causes associated with CTEV. The treatment should be done as early as possible, if delayed, it can lead to deformities in the joint. Here is a case of a 12-year-old male, who, a neglected case of bilateral clubfoot, now underwent wedge tarsectomy surgery for the left foot and below knee amputation of the right leg due to the formation of infectious gangrene. Post-surgery, the patient was referred to the physiotherapy department for further treatment and rehabilitation.
