RESUMO

A bismuth oxyiodide photocatalyst having coexistent iodine deficient phases viz. Bi4O5I2 and Bi5O7I was prepared by using a solvothermal method followed by calcination process. This has been used for the degradation of model perfluoroalkyl acids such as perfluorooctanoic acid at low concentrations (1 ppm) under simulated solar light irradiation. 94% PFOA degradation with a rate constant of 1.7 h-1 and 65% defluorination of PFOA have been achieved following 2 h of photocatalysis. The degradation of PFOA happened by the parallel direct redox reactions with high energy photoexcited electrons at the conduction band, electrons in iodine vacancies and superoxide radicals. The degradation intermediates were analyzed by electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry in the negative mode. The catalyst was converted to a more iodine deficient Bi5O7I phase during photocatalysis following creation of iodine vacancies, some of which were compensated by the fluoride ions released from degraded PFOA.

RESUMO

For the first time, a quasisolid thiolate/disulfide-based electrolyte was prepared using succinonitrile as a matrix. An optimized configuration of the quasisolid electrolyte contains 5-mercapto-1-methyltetrazole N-tetramethylammonium/disulfide/LiClO4/N-methylbenzimidazole in the molar ratio of 0.8:0.8:0.1:0.1. Dye-sensitized solar cells fabricated using this quasisolid electrolyte, together with N719 dye-sensitized photoelectrode and CoS counter electrode, attained power conversion efficiencies of 4.25% at 1 sun and 6.19% at 0.1 sun illumination intensities. The optimized quasisolid electrolyte, when introduced to quasisolid CdS quantum-dot-sensitized solar cells, exhibited a power conversion efficiency of 0.94%, despite the fact that CdS absorbs only a small fraction of the visible light, unlike dyes. The encouraging results show the potential for the utilization of the quasisolid thiolate/disulfide-based electrolyte in sensitized solar cells.

RESUMO

In this mini-review, we summarise and critique the emerging field of quantum-based molecular simulation of dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSCs), with particular focus on the deployment of organic-based dyes therein. We assess the underlying methodologies, including developments, pitfalls and challenges, whilst gauging predictive performance vis-à-vis experimental performance. The predictive capabilities of simulation methods with respect to elucidation of underlying methods is considered in the light of progress towards the ultimate goal of predictive in silico design of DSSCs, to complement hand-in-hand experimental approaches in the development of state-of-the-art DSSC devices.

RESUMO

This paper proposes an alternative solution to multimetal deposition (MMD) for the development of latent fingermarks on non-porous and porous surfaces. MMD offers a good sensitivity, however it is very time-consuming and requires many reagents to be carried out. Single-metal deposition (SMD) replaces the silver enhancement of the gold colloids by a gold enhancement procedure. This reduces the number of baths by one as well as the number of reagents and their cost, utilizes reagents with a longer shelf life, and most importantly reduces the labor-intensity of the procedure. It offers quasi-identical results to MMD and thus makes a very attractive alternative.
