PURPOSE: Corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) can halt corneal ectasia. Leaving corneal epithelium intact during treatment may reduce the incidence of complications. However, it is under debate whether this reduces efficacy and if oxygen supplementation may be necessary to optimize the cross-linking effect. This study aimed to investigate the impact of hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) on intracorneal oxygen concentrations during epi-off and epi-on CXL. METHODS: CXL was performed using riboflavin and ultraviolet-A (UV-A) irradiance (3 mW/cm2 for 30 min) on porcine corneas under normobaric and hyperbaric conditions, with and without supplemented oxygen, with and without epithelium. Intracorneal oxygen concentrations were continuously monitored before and during irradiation. Biomechanical properties were assessed through tensile strength testing. RESULTS: HBO alone did not cause perceivable changes in stromal oxygen concentrations. Oxygen supplementation resulted in higher oxygen concentration in corneal stroma during CXL. HBO may cause a further increase in oxygen levels, although this was not statistically significant in this study. Notably, a tendency of oxygen levels to rise continuously during UV-irradiation was observed using HBO. Biomechanical properties showend no statistically significant differences between any groups. CONCLUSIONS: In this ex-vivo model, HBO increased stromal oxygen levels during CXL, regardless of the presence of corneal epithelium. The dynamics in oxygen concentrations in corneal stromal tissue during CXL suggest that time is an important factor to consider in modifications of established protocols. Also, we hypothesize that stromal levels of riboflavin and UV-A irradiance may be more critical to the CXL effect when oxygen is supplemented and epithelium is not removed.

Despite increasing interest in the dynamics of functional brain networks, most studies focus on the changing relationships over time between spatially static networks or regions. Here we propose an approach to study dynamic spatial brain networks in human resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) data and evaluate the temporal changes in the volumes of these 4D networks. Our results show significant volumetric coupling (i.e., synchronized shrinkage and growth) between networks during the scan, that we refer to as dynamic spatial network connectivity (dSNC). We find that several features of such dynamic spatial brain networks are associated with cognition, with higher dynamic variability in these networks and higher volumetric coupling between network pairs positively associated with cognitive performance. We show that these networks are modulated differently in individuals with schizophrenia versus typical controls, resulting in network growth or shrinkage, as well as altered focus of activity within a network. Schizophrenia also shows lower spatial dynamical variability in several networks, and lower volumetric coupling between pairs of networks, thus upholding the role of dynamic spatial brain networks in cognitive impairment seen in schizophrenia. Our data show evidence for the importance of studying the typically overlooked voxel-wise changes within and between brain networks.

We describe a provider-focused intervention to increase universal HIV testing among adolescent users in a network of School-Based Health Centers (SBHC) and compare the rate of HIV test offer and acceptance for SBHCs with and without the HIV testing intervention. The intervention was implemented at the six largest SBHCs in the 12-site network and included system- and staff-level initiatives, including an implementation coach to support SBHC associates. Rates of HIV test offer and acceptance at six sites in the Intervention Cohort were compared to that at the six sites in a Non-Intervention Cohort which was not randomly selected but had comparable distributions by age, gender and race/ethnicity. The model showed an intervention effect for universal HIV test offer, but no overall effect for test acceptance. Analyzing the intervention effect by whether a patient had a history of sexual activity, the intervention was very effective early in its implementation at increasing test offer to those with no history of sexual activity, and late in its implementation at increasing test acceptance for those with no or unknown sexual activity. Increasing and sustaining universal HIV testing in SBHCs may benefit from using Implementation Science frameworks to guide adaptation of the intervention.

Schizophrenia is associated with robust white matter (WM) abnormalities but influences of potentially confounding variables and relationships with cognitive performance and symptom severity remain to be fully determined. This study was designed to evaluate WM abnormalities based on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in individuals with schizophrenia, and their relationships with cognitive performance and symptom severity. Data from individuals with schizophrenia (SZ; n=138, mean age±SD=39.02±11.82; 105 males) and healthy controls (HC; n=143, mean age±SD=37.07±10.84; 102 males) were collected as part of the Function Biomedical Informatics Research Network Phase 3 study. Fractional anisotropy (FA), axial diffusivity (AD), radial diffusivity (RD), and mean diffusivity (MD) were compared between individuals with schizophrenia and healthy controls, and their relationships with neurocognitive performance and symptomatology assessed. Individuals with SZ had significantly lower FA in forceps minor and the left inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus compared to HC. FA in several tracts were associated with speed of processing and attention/vigilance and the severity of the negative symptom alogia. This study suggests that regional WM abnormalities are fundamentally involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and may contribute to cognitive performance deficits and symptom expression observed in schizophrenia.

Loneliness is prevalent among sexual minority adults and is associated with minority stress. Yet there is limited understanding of how loneliness and minority stress vary across key demographic variables. This cross-sectional study explored age and gender differences in a minority stress model linking sexual orientation marginalization to social and emotional loneliness via proximal stress (internalized homonegativity, concealment, and stigma preoccupation) and via social anxiety and inhibition. The study also assessed age and gender differences in the protective influence of LGBTQ community involvement. 7,856 sexual minority adults from 85 countries completed an online survey. They were categorized as emerging adults (18-24, n = 3,056), young adults (25-34, n = 2,193), midlife adults (35-49, n = 1,243), and older adults (50-88, n = 1,364). Gender identity groups were cisgender men (n = 4,073), cisgender women (n = 3,017), and transgender individuals (n = 766). With each successive age group, there was a lower prevalence of sexual orientation marginalization, proximal stress, social anxiety, inhibition, and emotional loneliness, along with more community involvement. Sexual orientation marginalization was more pronounced among cisgender women and, especially, transgender individuals. The latter also exhibited the most social anxiety, inhibition, loneliness, and community involvement. Proximal stress was more prevalent among cisgender men than cisgender women and transgender individuals. Multiple group structural equation modeling supported the applicability of the loneliness model across age and gender groups, with only a few variations; these mainly related to how strongly community involvement was linked to marginalization, internalized homonegativity, and social loneliness.

The size of the human head is highly heritable, but genetic drivers of its variation within the general population remain unmapped. We perform a genome-wide association study on head size (N = 80,890) and identify 67 genetic loci, of which 50 are novel. Neuroimaging studies show that 17 variants affect specific brain areas, but most have widespread effects. Gene set enrichment is observed for various cancers and the p53, Wnt, and ErbB signaling pathways. Genes harboring lead variants are enriched for macrocephaly syndrome genes (37-fold) and high-fidelity cancer genes (9-fold), which is not seen for human height variants. Head size variants are also near genes preferentially expressed in intermediate progenitor cells, neural cells linked to evolutionary brain expansion. Our results indicate that genes regulating early brain and cranial growth incline to neoplasia later in life, irrespective of height. This warrants investigation of clinical implications of the link between head size and cancer.

Dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) analysis is a widely used approach for studying brain function and offering insight into how brain networks evolve over time. Typically, dFNC studies utilized fixed spatial maps and evaluate transient changes in coupling among time courses estimated from independent component analysis (ICA). This manuscript presents a complementary approach that relaxes this assumption by spatially reordering the components dynamically at each timepoint to optimize for a smooth gradient in the FNC (i.e., a smooth gradient among ICA connectivity values). Several methods are presented to summarize dynamic FNC gradients (dFNGs) over time, starting with static FNC gradients (sFNGs), then exploring the reordering properties as well as the dynamics of the gradients themselves. We then apply this approach to a dataset of schizophrenia (SZ) patients and healthy controls (HC). Functional dysconnectivity between different brain regions has been reported in schizophrenia, yet the neural mechanisms behind it remain elusive. Using resting state fMRI and ICA on a dataset consisting of 151 schizophrenia patients and 160 age and gender-matched healthy controls, we extracted 53 intrinsic connectivity networks (ICNs) for each subject using a fully automated spatially constrained ICA approach. We develop several summaries of our functional network connectivity gradient analysis, both in a static sense, computed as the Pearson correlation coefficient between full time series, and a dynamic sense, computed using a sliding window approach followed by reordering based on the computed gradient, and evaluate group differences. Static connectivity analysis revealed significantly stronger connectivity between subcortical (SC), auditory (AUD) and visual (VIS) networks in patients, as well as hypoconnectivity in sensorimotor (SM) network relative to controls. sFNG analysis highlighted distinctive clustering patterns in patients and HCs along cognitive control (CC)/ default mode network (DMN), as well as SC/ AUD/ SM/ cerebellar (CB), and VIS gradients. Furthermore, we observed significant differences in the sFNGs between groups in SC and CB domains. dFNG analysis suggested that SZ patients spend significantly more time in a SC/ CB state based on the first gradient, while HCs favor the SM/DMN state. For the second gradient, however, patients exhibited significantly higher activity in CB domains, contrasting with HCs' DMN engagement. The gradient synchrony analysis conveyed more shifts between SM/ SC networks and transmodal CC/ DMN networks in patients. In addition, the dFNG coupling revealed distinct connectivity patterns between SC, SM and CB domains in SZ patients compared to HCs. To recap, our results advance our understanding of brain network modulation by examining smooth connectivity trajectories. This provides a more complete spatiotemporal summary of the data, contributing to the growing body of current literature regarding the functional dysconnectivity in schizophrenia patients. By employing dFNG, we highlight a new perspective to capture large scale fluctuations across the brain while maintaining the convenience of brain networks and low dimensional summary measures.

Identifying the composition of a solution using acoustics remains a challenge. It is known that for low salt concentrations the speed of sound in water increases linearly with the concentration of the electrolyte, but the contribution of individual cations and anions is unknown. We introduce the concept of intrinsic sound speed Ai to quantify the contribution of ions to the speed of sound. We found that cations increase the speed of sound in water whereas anions decrease the speed of sound. Hydration layers around the ions play a major role. Because cations have a hydration layer thicker than that of anions, their contribution to the speed of sound is larger than that of anions. Experimental data on salts not used to determine the contribution of individual ions are in quantitative agreement with the predicted values. Our method can be applied to various systems containing small quantities of ions, molecules, or particles. With the knowledge that cations increase the speed of sound, we were able to explain previously unexplained data in the literature.

Neurodegenerative disorders are characterized by the progressive loss of structure and function of neurons, often including the death of the neuron. Previously, we reported that, by removing the cell death stimulus, dying/injured neurons could survive and recover from the process of regulated cell death, even if the cells already displayed various signs of cellular damage. Now we investigated the role of mitochondrial dynamics (fission/fusion, biogenesis, mitophagy) in both degeneration and in recovery of neuronal cells. In neuronal PC12 cells, exposure to ethanol (EtOH) induced massive neurite loss along with widespread mitochondrial fragmentation, mitochondrial membrane potential loss, reduced ATP production, and decreased total mitochondrial volume. By removing EtOH timely all these mitochondrial parameters recovered to normal levels. Meanwhile, cells regrew neurites and survived. Study of the mitochondrial dynamics showed that autophagy was activated only during the cellular degeneration phase (EtOH treatment) but not in the recovery phase (EtOH removed), and it was not dependent on the Parkin/PINK1 mediated mitophagy pathway. Protein expression of key regulators of mitochondrial fission, phospho-Drp1Ser616 and S-OPA1, increased during EtOH treatment and recovered to normal levels after removing EtOH. In addition, the critical role of PGC-1α mediated mitochondrial biogenesis in cellular recovery was revealed: inhibition of PGC-1α using SR-18292 after EtOH removal significantly impeded recovery of mitochondrial damage, regeneration of neurites, and cell survival in a concentration-dependent manner. Taken together, our study showed reversibility of mitochondrial morphological and functional damage in stressed neuronal cells and revealed that PGC-1α mediated mitochondrial biogenesis played a critical role in the cellular recovery. This molecular mechanism could be a target for neuroprotection and neurorescue in neurodegenerative diseases.

PURPOSE: Corneal biomechanics is an emerging field and the interest into physical and biological interrelations in the anterior part of the eye has significantly increased during the past years. There are many factors that determine corneal biomechanics such as hormonal fluctuations, hydration and environmental factors. Other factors that can affect the corneas are the age, the intraocular pressure and the central corneal thickness. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the factors affecting corneal biomechanics and the recent advancements in non-destructive, in vivo measurement techniques for early detection and improved management of corneal diseases. METHODS: Until recently, corneal biomechanics could not be directly assessed in humans and were instead inferred from geometrical cornea analysis and ex vivo biomechanical testing. The current research has made strides in studying and creating non-destructive and contactless techniques to measure the biomechanical properties of the cornea in vivo. RESULTS: Research has indicated that altered corneal biomechanics contribute to diseases such as keratoconus and glaucoma. The identification of pathological corneas through the new measurement techniques is imperative for preventing postoperative complications. CONCLUSIONS: Identification of pathological corneas is crucial for the prevention of postoperative complications. Therefore, a better understanding of corneal biomechanics will lead to earlier diagnosis of ectatic disorders, improve current refractive surgeries and allow for a better postoperative treatment.

The integration of neuroimaging with artificial intelligence is crucial for advancing the diagnosis of mental disorders. However, challenges arise from incomplete matching between diagnostic labels and neuroimaging. Here, we propose a label-noise filtering-based dimensional prediction (LAMP) method to identify reliable biomarkers and achieve accurate prediction for mental disorders. Our method proposes to utilize a label-noise filtering model to automatically filter out unclear cases from a neuroimaging perspective, and then the typical subjects whose diagnostic labels align with neuroimaging measures are used to construct a dimensional prediction model to score independent subjects. Using fMRI data of schizophrenia patients and healthy controls (n = 1,245), our method yields consistent scores to independent subjects, leading to more distinguishable relabeled groups with an enhanced classification accuracy of 31.89%. Additionally, it enables the exploration of stable abnormalities in schizophrenia. In summary, our LAMP method facilitates the identification of reliable biomarkers and accurate diagnosis of mental disorders using neuroimages.

INTRODUCTION: Research suggests that girls who reach menarche at an early age are at greater risk for negative sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes than their later-maturing counterparts, but very little research has examined this issue in sub-Saharan Africa, especially in West Africa. The goal of the current study was to determine whether early menarche was associated with any SRH outcomes in a sample of Ghanaian girls. METHODS: The study data were drawn from the baseline assessment of a longitudinal study involving two age cohorts (13-14 and 18-19 years) of 700 adolescent girls from Ghana. Logistic regressions were used to assess the association between early menarche (before age 13) and seven SRH outcomes (adolescent sexual activity, early sexual initiation, inconsistent condom use, transactional sex, sexual violence, multiple sexual partners, and adolescent pregnancy). RESULTS: Early menarche was significantly associated with adolescent sexual activity (odds ratio [OR] = 6.4; 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.1-19.7), and sexual violence (OR = 3.2; 95% CI 1.6-6.2) in the younger cohort and early sexual initiation (OR = 3.2; 95% CI 1.19-8.61) and multiple sexual partners (OR = 3.7; 95% CI 1.39-9.87) in the older cohort. Early menarche was also associated with transactional sex and teen pregnancy in the full sample. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest the need for special attention to the needs of early-maturing girls in SRH programming. Interventions are needed to delay adolescent sexual activity in girls with early menarche. Efforts to prevent sexual violence among adolescent girls in Ghana may benefit from targeting and addressing the specific needs of early-maturing girls.

The unique features of self-healing hydrogels hold great potential for biomedical applications including injectable hydrogels for cancer treatment, procedures for tumor removal or resection. However, the fabrication of durable and multifunctional self-healing hydrogels composed of biocompatible, green building blocks via versatile synthetic methodology continues to pose a significant challenge. Here, we engineered dialdehyde cellulose (DAC, as a macromolecular bio-crosslinker), and electrosterically stabilized nanocrystalline cellulose (ENCC, as a ligand-targeted drug carrier) to facilitate a strategy for the construction of self-healing hydrogels. Benefiting from its high carboxyl group density, ENCC was functionalized with folic acid (FA) using a non-toxic DMTMM coupling agent and loaded with doxorubicin (DOX, a model drug) through electrostatic interactions. A natural self-healing hydrogel was prepared from carboxymethyl chitosan (CCTS) and DAC mixed with DOX-loaded FA-ENCC using dynamic Schiff-base and hydrogen linkages. A combination of active supramolecular and vital covalent junctions led to a soft (storage modulus ∼500 Pa) and durable material, with rapid (< 5 min) reconstruction of molecular structure from fractured and injected to intact forms. The DAC-CCTS hydrogel showed an appreciable loading capacity of ∼5 mg g-1. Biocompatibility of the hydrogels was evaluated using cell viability and metabolic activity assays, showing lower metabolic activity due to sustained release of its cargo. These materials offer a versatile, sustainable, and green platform for the efficient construction of hydrogels, based on macro- and nano-engineered cellulose, the most abundant and easily accessible biopolymer.

BACKGROUND: Retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration and death cause vision loss in patients with glaucoma. Regulated cell death, once initiated, is generally considered to be an irreversible process. Recently, we showed that, by timely removing the cell death stimulus, stressed neuronal PC12 cells can recover from phosphatidylserine (PS) exposure, nuclear shrinkage, DNA damage, mitochondrial fragmentation, mitochondrial membrane potential loss, and retraction of neurites, all hallmarks of an activated cell death program. Whether the cell death process can be reversed in neurons of the central nervous system, like RGCs, is still unknown. Here, we studied reversibility of the activated cell death program in primary rat RGCs (prRGCs). METHODS: prRGCs were exposed to ethanol (5%, vol/vol) to induce cell death. At different stages of the cell death process, ethanol was removed by washing and injured prRGCs were further cultured in fresh medium to see whether they recovered. The dynamics of single cells were monitored by high-resolution live-cell spinning disk microscopy. PS exposure, mitochondrial structure, membrane potential, and intracellular Ca2+ were revealed by annexin A5-FITC, Mito-tracker, TMRM, and Fluo 8-AM staining, respectively. The distribution of cytochrome c was investigated by immunofluorescence. The ultrastructure of mitochondria was studied by electron microscopy. RESULTS: Analysis of temporal relationships between mitochondrial changes and PS exposure showed that fragmentation of the mitochondrial network and loss of mitochondrial membrane potential occurred before PS exposure. Mitochondrial changes proceeded caspase-independently, while PS exposure was caspase dependent. Interestingly, prRGCs recovered quickly from these mitochondrial changes but not from PS exposure at the plasma membrane. Correlative light and electron microscopy showed that stress-induced decrease in mitochondrial area, length and cristae number was reversible. Intracellular Ca2+ was elevated during this stage of reversible mitochondrial injury, but there was no sign of mitochondrial cytochrome c release. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that RGCs with impaired mitochondrial structure and function can fully recover if there is no mitochondrial cytochrome c release yet, and no PS is exposed at the plasma membrane. This finding indicates that there is a time window for rescuing dying or injured RGCs, by simply removing the cell death stimulus. Video Abstract.

BACKGROUND: Achieving precise refractive outcomes in phakic posterior chamber intraocular lens (pIOL) implantation is crucial for patient satisfaction. This study investigates factors affecting pIOL power calculations, focusing on myopic eyes, and evaluates the potential benefits of advanced predictive models. DESIGN: Retrospective, single-center, algorithm improvement study. METHODS: Various variations with different effective lens position (ELP) algorithms were analyzed. The algorithms included a fixed constant model, and a multiple linear regression model and were tested with and without incorporation of the posterior corneal curvature (Rcp). Furthermore, the impact of inserting the postoperative vault, the space between the pIOL and the crystalline lens, into the ELP algorithm was examined, and a simple vault prediction model was assessed. RESULTS: Integrating Rcp and the measured vault into pIOL calculations did not significantly improve accuracy. Transitioning from constant model approaches to ELP concepts based on linear regression models significantly improved pIOL power calculations. Linear regression models outperformed constant models, enhancing refractive outcomes for both ICL and IPCL pIOL platforms. CONCLUSIONS: This study underscores the utility of implementing ELP concepts based on linear regression models into pIOL power calculation. Linear regression based ELP models offered substantial advantages for achieving desired refractive outcomes, especially in lower to medium power pIOL models. For pIOL power calculations in both pIOL platforms we tested with preoperative measurements from a Scheimpflug device, we found improved results with the LION 1ICL formula and LION 1IPCL formula. Further research is needed to explore the applicability of these findings to a broader range of pIOL designs and measurement devices.

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus (ChP) enlargement exists in first-episode and chronic psychosis, but whether enlargement occurs before psychosis onset is unknown. This study investigated whether ChP volume is enlarged in individuals with clinical high-risk (CHR) for psychosis and whether these changes are related to clinical, neuroanatomical, and plasma analytes. METHODS: Clinical and neuroimaging data from the North American Prodrome Longitudinal Study 2 (NAPLS2) was used for analysis. 509 participants (169 controls, 340 CHR) were recruited. Conversion status was determined after 2-years of follow-up, with 36 psychosis converters. The lateral ventricle ChP was manually segmented from baseline scans. A subsample of 31 controls and 53 CHR had plasma analyte and neuroimaging data. RESULTS: Compared to controls, CHR (d = 0.23, p = 0.017) and non-converters (d = 0.22, p = 0.03) demonstrated higher ChP volumes, but not in converters. In CHR, greater ChP volume correlated with lower cortical (r = -0.22, p < 0.001), subcortical gray matter (r = -0.21, p < 0.001), and total white matter volume (r = -0.28,p < 0.001), as well as larger lateral ventricle volume (r = 0.63,p < 0.001). Greater ChP volume correlated with makers functionally associated with the lateral ventricle ChP in CHR [CCL1 (r = -0.30, p = 0.035), ICAM1 (r = 0.33, p = 0.02)], converters [IL1ß (r = 0.66, p = 0.004)], and non-converters [BMP6 (r = -0.96, p < 0.001), CALB1 (r = -0.98, p < 0.001), ICAM1 (r = 0.80, p = 0.003), SELE (r = 0.59, p = 0.026), SHBG (r = 0.99, p < 0.001), TNFRSF10C (r = 0.78, p = 0.001)]. CONCLUSIONS: CHR and non-converters demonstrated significantly larger ChP volumes compared to controls. Enlarged ChP was associated with neuroanatomical alterations and analyte markers functionally associated with the ChP. These findings suggest that the ChP may be a key an important biomarker in CHR.

PURPOSE: To assess the feasibility and reliability of biometric measurements taken with the Eyestar 900 device in keratoconus eyes in comparison with those taken with the Pentacam HR and IOLMaster 700. METHODS: Seventy-five eyes of 75 patients with keratoconus were included. The central corneal thickness (CCT), thinnest point of corneal thickness (TCT), axial length (AL), flat (K1) and steep (K2) anterior and posterior (Kp1, Kp2) keratometry, maximal keratometry (KMax) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) were compared between the Eyestar 900, Pentacam HR and IOLMaster 700. Reliability parameters such as the coefficient of variation (CoV) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated. Pearson's r was determined to assess the correlation between devices. RESULTS: A high repeatability (CoV < 1%) and intraclass correlation (ICC > 0.9) was found for all devices, led by AL, TCT, K1 and K2 (CoV 0.01-0.36%; ICC 0.994-1.00). The largest correlation between devices was found for AL (Eyestar vs. IOLMaster, r = 1.0), K1 (Eyestar vs. IOLMaster, r = 0.997) and ACD (Eyestar vs. IOLMaster, r = 0.995; Pentacam vs. IOLMaster, r = 0.987; Eyestar vs. Pentacam, r = 0.983), but there were significant differences in measured values between devices (p < 0.001), whereas the correlation was only slightly lower (r = 0.947 to 0.994) for KMax, CCT, TCT, K2, Kp1 and Kp2. CONCLUSION: Keratometric and axial length measurements with the Eyestar 900 were feasible and revealed a high repeatability and a good correlation to the other devices in eyes with keratoconus.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to explore the concept of total keratometry (TK) by analyzing extensive international datasets representing diverse ethnic backgrounds. The primary objective was to quantify the disparities between traditional keratometry (K) and TK values in normal eyes and assess their impact on intraocular lens (IOL) power calculations using various formulas. DESIGN: Retrospective multicenter intra-instrument reliability analysis. METHODS: The study involved the analysis of biometry data collected from ten international centers across Europe, the United States, and Asia. Corneal power was expressed as equivalent power and astigmatic vector components for both K and TK values. The study assessed the influence of these differences on IOL power calculations using different formulas. The results were analyzed and plotted using Bland-Altman and double angle plots. RESULTS: The study encompassed a total of 116,982 measurements from 57,862 right eyes and 59,120 left eyes. The analysis revealed a high level of agreement between K and TK values, with 93.98% of eyes exhibiting an absolute difference of 0.25 D or less. Astigmatism vector differences exceeding 0.25 D and 0.50 D were observed in 39.43% and 1.08% of eyes, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This large-scale study underscores the similarity between mean K and TK values in healthy eyes, with rare clinical implications for IOL power calculation. Noteworthy differences were observed in astigmatism values between K and TK. Future investigations should delve into the practicality of TK values for astigmatism correction and their implications for surgical outcomes.
