RESUMO

Clathrin assembles at the cells' plasma membrane in a multitude of clathrin-coated structures (CCSs). Among these are flat clathrin lattices (FCLs), alternative clathrin structures that have been found in specific cell types, including cancer cells. Here we show that these structures are also present in different colorectal cancer (CRC) cell lines, and that they are extremely stable with lifetimes longer than 8 h. By combining cell models representative of CRC metastasis with advanced fluorescence imaging and analysis, we discovered that the metastatic potential of CRC is associated with an aberrant membranous clathrin distribution, resulting in a higher prevalence of FCLs in cells with a higher metastatic potential. These findings suggest that clathrin organization might play an important yet unexplored role in cancer metastasis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of cervical pessary in the prevention of preterm birth and its influence on pregnancy and maternal outcomes, so as to provide a clinical basis for cervical pessary to prevent premature delivery. METHODS: The databases of PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, WanFang Data, etc, were used to search for the eligible articles. The relevant data were abstracted by two independent reviewers and performed with Stata 12.0. RESULTS: Pregnancy Result: the PTB rates of pessary and control group before 28, 32, 34, and 37 weeks were analyzed and the combined RR (95%CI) values were 0.78 (0.46, 1.31), 0.92 (0.67, 1.28), 0.74 (0.49, 1.13), and 0.79 (0.54, 1.15). Compared with the control group, the utilization rate of tocolytic and corticosteroids was decreased 21% (RR = 0.79, 95%CI = 0.66-0.94) and 18% (RR = 0.82, 95%CI = 0.70-0.96). The risk of PROM and the difference was not statistically significant (p > .05). Subgroup analysis showed that there was no significant difference on the PTB rate subgroup and twins subgroup during 28 and 34 weeks (p > .05). The results showed that there was no significant difference on neonatal weight <1500 g and <2500 g (p > .05). Three articles on the average gestational age were included in the cervical length <25 mm. The deepen analysis on the relationship between gestational weeks and neonatal showed that: the risk of neonatal sepsis was reduced by 55% (RR = 0.45, 95% = 0.22 - 0.93); RDS and intraventricular hemorrhage are no significant difference on pessary and control group. The neonatal results were analyzed by subgroup analysis of singletons and twins, and there was no significant difference between two groups (p > .05). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with expectant management, pessary could prolong pregnancy and reduce the rate of tocolysis and corticosteroids. More registered trials are ongoing which may substantially change our results.

RESUMO

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a chronic inflammatory and obliterative disease of large vessels, which mainly affects the aorta and its major branches. TA can lead to renal failure and renovascular hypertension in 60% of patients; it is rare in children aged <10 years and, more rarely, it presents with malignant hypertension in the paediatric age group. Here we present a case of 9-year-old boy with TA who presented with malignant hypertension and required surgical intervention to control the blood pressure. Subsequently, his medications were titrated using 24 h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and is doing well on follow-up.

RESUMO

Diabetic ketoacidosisis as a complication of L-asparaginase therapy in children with acute leukemia is rare. Hyperglycemia may occur in about 10% of cases receiving Lasp, which may present as mild glucose intolerance to severe hyperglycemia. We report two children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia who developed diabetic ketoacidosis after treatment with L-asparaginase.

RESUMO

We report an unusual cause of right ureteral obstruction by a normal running right spermatic vein in a 55-year-old man. Laparoscopic resection of the right spermatic vein was done. To the best of our knowledge, only 1 such case has been previously reported.

RESUMO

CONTEXT: Traditionally, circumcision wounds are closed by absorbable sutures. However, certain alternative methods are also being utilized to overcome the shortcomings of the conventionally used method for circumcision wound closuring. In the current study, the use of tissue glue ((iso amyl 2-cyanoacrylate) has been compared with traditional suturing for the approximation of circumcision wounds. In our study, both the methods were found to be comparable with significantly less time consumed in glue group. AIMS: The purpose of the present study has been to compare directly cyanoacrylate as a better alternative to conventional suture material in terms of cosmetic result, time consumed and incidence of infection (comparative study). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The results of all the patients seen in outpatient department for circumcision were included in this study. The study was conducted from Aug 2009 to May 2010. The tissue glue (iso amyl 2-cyanoacrylate) was compared to sutures as a method of wound approximation in circumcision. RESULTS: Tissue glue group has been observed to have less wound inflammation, bleeding or hematoma rate and was cosmetically superior as compared to suture group; however, none of these findings could reach statistically significant level. The mean time taken for circumcision was 14.2 min (SD 2.42), when tissue glue was used for wound approximation. However, it was 24.4 min (SD 5.06) in case of the use of sutures. This difference was found as highly significant (P value < 0.001). However, regarding postoperative pain no significant reduction was observed when glue was used. CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that the use of tissue glue in comparison to sutures is having the following advantages: Cosmetically superiorLess time consuming All other parameters measured were nearly the same and statically insignificant.

RESUMO

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) constitutes 2-3% of all adult malignancies and often diagnosed incidentally. Classical tried of RCC now rarely seen, it behaves unpredictably and having diverge range of clinical manifestation including paraneoplastic syndromes. Upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding due to stomach metastasis of RCC is uncommon and to the best of our knowledge, only few cases are reported in world literature and most of them were diagnosed during follow-up after complete treatment of RCC but in our case, it was the primary manifestation of disease. Our case also demonstrates the importance of imaging in undiagnosed cases of upper GI bleeding.
