RESUMO

This paper presents findings from a spaceborne Earth observation experiment utilizing a novel, ultra-compact hyperspectral imaging camera aboard a 3U CubeSat. Leveraging the Offner optical scheme, the camera's hyperspectrometer captures hyperspectral images of terrestrial regions with a 200 m spatial resolution and 12 nanometer spectral resolution across a 400 to 1000 nanometer wavelength range, covering 150 channels in the visible and near-infrared spectrums. The hyperspectrometer is specifically designed for deployment on a 3U CubeSat nanosatellite platform, featuring a robust all-metal cylindrical body of the hyperspectrometer, and a coaxial arrangement of the optical elements ensures optimal compactness and vibration stability. The performance of the imaging hyperspectrometer was rigorously evaluated through numerical simulations prior to construction. Analysis of hyperspectral data acquired over a year-long orbital operation demonstrates the 3U CubeSat's ability to produce various vegetation indices, including the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). A comparative study with the European Space Agency's Sentinel-2 L2A data shows a strong agreement at critical points, confirming the 3U CubeSat's suitability for hyperspectral imaging in the visible and near-infrared spectrums. Notably, the ISOI 3U CubeSat can generate unique index images beyond the reach of Sentinel-2 L2A, underscoring its potential for advancing remote sensing applications.

RESUMO

To understand how polyethyleneimine (PEI), as a ligand, affects structure and properties of the transition metals hexacyanoferrates (HCFs) immobilized in cross-linked PEI matrix, we have synthesized Cu(II), Zn(II), and Fe(III) HCFs via successive ion-exchange reactions with metal salts and K4[FeII(CN)6] or K3[FeIII(CN)6]. The structure and properties of the obtained materials in comparison with the crystalline HCF analogs were investigated with FT-IR, Mössbauer, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Complete reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II) by PEI in HCF(III) was confirmed. When synthesis was performed at pH favoring binding of precursor metal ions by PEI, cyano-bridged hybrids rather than polymer-HCFs composites were formed. Although the obtained hybrids did not demonstrate sorption activity toward cesium ions, known for crystalline HCFs, they are of interest for the other applications. SQUID measurements revealed a significant difference in magnetic properties of PEI-HCFs hybrids in comparison with crystalline HCFs. Due to the Fe(III) to Fe(II) reduction in HCF ions, Cu(II) and Fe(III) HCFs(III) lost the molecular magnets properties in PEI matrix, but magnetic ordering, including ferromagnet-antiferromagnet interactions, was observed in all hybrids over the broad temperature range.

RESUMO

In this study, the appearance of magnetic moments and ferromagnetism in nanostructures of non-magnetic materials based on silicon and transition metals (such as iron) was considered experimentally and theoretically. An analysis of the related literature shows that for a monolayer iron coating on a vicinal silicon surface with (111) orientation after solid-phase annealing at 450-550 °C, self-ordered two-dimensional islands of α-FeSi2 displaying superparamagnetic properties are formed. We studied the transition to ferromagnetic properties in a system of α-FeSi2 nanorods (NRs) in the temperature range of 2-300 K with an increase in the iron coverage to 5.22 monolayers. The structure of the NRs was verified along with distortions in their lattice parameters due to heteroepitaxial growth. The formation of single-domain grains in α-FeSi2 NRs with a cross-section of 6.6 × 30 nm2 was confirmed by low-temperature and field studies and FORC (first-order magnetization reversal curves) diagrams. A mechanism for maintaining ferromagnetic properties is proposed. Ab initio calculations in freestanding α-FeSi2 nanowires revealed the formation of magnetic moments for some surface Fe atoms only at specific facets. The difference in the averaged magnetic moments between theory and experiments can confirm the presence of possible contributions from defects on the surface of the NRs and in the bulk of the α-FeSi2 NR crystal lattice. The formed α-FeSi2 NRs with ferromagnetic properties up to 300 K are crucial for spintronic device development within planar silicon technology.

RESUMO

Nickel- and zinc-doped TiO2(B) nanobelts were synthesized using a hydrothermal technique. It was found that the incorporation of 5 at.% Ni into bronze TiO2 expanded the unit cell by 4%. Furthermore, Ni dopant induced the 3d energy levels within TiO2(B) band structure and oxygen defects, narrowing the band gap from 3.28 eV (undoped) to 2.70 eV. Oppositely, Zn entered restrictedly into TiO2(B), but nonetheless, improves its electronic properties (Eg is narrowed to 3.21 eV). The conductivity of nickel- (2.24 × 10-8 S·cm-1) and zinc-containing (3.29 × 10-9 S·cm-1) TiO2(B) exceeds that of unmodified TiO2(B) (1.05 × 10-10 S·cm-1). When tested for electrochemical storage, nickel-doped mesoporous TiO2(B) nanobelts exhibited improved electrochemical performance. For lithium batteries, a reversible capacity of 173 mAh·g-1 was reached after 100 cycles at the current load of 50 mA·g-1, whereas, for unmodified and Zn-doped samples, around 140 and 151 mAh·g-1 was obtained. Moreover, Ni doping enhanced the rate capability of TiO2(B) nanobelts (104 mAh·g-1 at a current density of 1.8 A·g-1). In terms of sodium storage, nickel-doped TiO2(B) nanobelts exhibited improved cycling with a stabilized reversible capacity of 97 mAh·g-1 over 50 cycles at the current load of 35 mA·g-1.

RESUMO

Introduction of magnetic nanoparticles into composite sorbents based on polymer matrices has received great attention due to the possibility of using cheap iron oxides and removing spent sorbents by means of magnetic separation. In the present paper, we discuss the problem of creating magnetic sorbents using two types of matrices as host materials: synthetic cation exchange resin and natural aminopolysaccharide chitosan. The possibilities of applying matrices for the in situ formation of oxide phases of a specified composition with the required content of an inorganic component in a composite material were estimated. The composition of the oxide phase formed in the composite material was studied, and particle sizes were evaluated by the method of X-ray diffraction analysis. Magnetic characteristics were investigated. Sorption characteristics with respect to strontium for the composites containing iron oxides were determined.

RESUMO

The article describes the synthesis of composite sorbents by immobilizing iron oxide in a polymer matrix with subsequent hydrothermal treatment at a temperature of 175 °C. The sorbents based on magnetite and hematite were synthesized, their magnetic properties and phase composition were evaluated, and the iron content was determined. Sorption characteristics of the composites towards microconcentrations of Sr-90 radionuclide in solutions with different mineralization and pH were investigated. It was shown that the sorbent based on magnetite was the most efficient. In alkaline media with pH above 11, the composite sorbent based on magnetite exhibited increased selectivity towards Sr-90 and proved to be suitable for application under dynamic sorption conditions with subsequent desorption of the radionuclide with a solution of HNO3.
