RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate using a biocellulose-based hydrogel as an adjuvant in the healing process of arterial ulcers. METHODS: A prospective single group quasi-experimental study was carried out with chronic lower limb arterial ulcer patients. These patients received biocellulose-based hydrogel dressings and outpatient guidance on dressing and periodic reassessments. The primary outcomes were the ulcer-healing rate and product safety, which were assessed by ulcer area measured in photographic records of pre-treatment and posttreatment after 7, 30, and 60 days. Secondary outcomes were related to clinical assessment by the quality-of-life scores (SF-36 and EQ-5D) and pain, evaluated by the visual analogue scale (VAS). RESULTS: Seventeen participants were included, and one of them was excluded. Six patients (37%) had complete wound healing, and all patients had a significant reduction in the ulcer area during follow-up (233.6mm2 versus 2.7mm2) and reduction on the score PUSH 3.0 (p < 0.0001). The analysis of the SF-36 and EQ-5D questionnaires showed a statistically significant improvement in almost all parameters analyzed and with a reduction of pain assessed by the VAS. CONCLUSIONS: The biocellulose-based hydrogel was safe and showed a good perspective to promoting the necessary conditions to facilitate partial or complete healing of chronic arterial ulcers within a 60-day follow-up. Quality of life and pain were positively affected by the treatment.

Human T-Lymphotropic Virus type-1 (HTLV-1) is a unique retrovirus associated with both leukemogenesis and a specific neuroinflammatory condition known as HTLV-1-Associated Myelopathy (HAM). Currently, most proposed HAM biomarkers require invasive CSF sampling, which is not suitable for large cohorts or repeated prospective screening. To identify non-invasive biomarkers for incident HAM in a large Brazilian cohort of PLwHTLV-1 (n=615 with 6,673 person-years of clinical follow-up), we selected all plasma samples available at the time of entry in the cohort (between 1997-2019), in which up to 43 cytokines/chemokines and immune mediators were measured. Thus, we selected 110 People Living with HTLV-1 (PLwHTLV-1), of which 68 were neurologically asymptomatic (AS) at baseline and 42 HAM patients. Nine incident HAM cases were identified among 68 AS during follow-up. Using multivariate logistic regression, we found that lower IL-10, IL-4 and female sex were independent predictors of clinical progression to definite HAM (AUROC 0.91), and outperformed previously suggested biomarkers age, sex and proviral load (AUROC 0.77). Moreover, baseline IL-10 significantly predicted proviral load dynamics at follow-up in all PLwHTLV-1. In an exploratory analysis, we identified additional plasma biomarkers which were able to discriminate iHAM from either AS (IL6Rα, IL-27) or HAM (IL-29/IFN-λ1, Osteopontin, and TNFR2). In conclusion, female sex and low anti-inflammatory IL-10 and IL-4 are independent risk factors for incident HAM in PLwHTLV-1,while proviral load is not, in agreement with IL-10 being upstream of proviral load dynamics. Additional candidate biomarkers IL-29/IL-6R/TNFR2 represent plausible therapeutic targets for future clinical trials in HAM patients.

In many cell types, disparate non-centrosomal microtubule-organizing centers (ncMTOCs) replace functional centrosomes and serve the unique needs of the cell types in which they are formed. In Drosophila fat body cells (adipocytes), an ncMTOC is organized on the nuclear surface. This perinuclear ncMTOC is anchored by Msp300, encoded by one of two Nesprin-encoding genes in Drosophila. Msp300 and the spectraplakin short stop (shot) are co-dependent for localization to the nuclear envelope to generate the ncMTOC where they recruit the microtubule minus-end stabilizer Patronin (CAMSAP). The fat body perinuclear ncMTOC requires Patronin, Ninein, and Msps (ortholog of ch-TOG), but does not require γ-tubulin for MT assembly. The Msp300 gene is complex, encoding at least eleven isoforms. Here we show that two Msp300 isoforms, Msp300-PE and -PG, are required and only one, Msp300-PE, appears sufficient for generation of the ncMTOC. Loss of Msp300-PE,-PG retains the presence of the other isoforms at the nuclear surface, indicating that they are not sufficient to generate the ncMTOC. Loss of Msp300-PE,-PG results in severe loss of localization of shot and Patronin, and disruption of the MT array. This results in nuclear mispositioning and loss of endosomal trafficking. Msp300-PE has an unusual domain structure including a lack of a KASH domain and very few spectrin repeats and appears therefore to have a highly derived function suited to generating an ncMTOC on the nuclear surface.

The European Union and some of its institutions have taken significant steps to address the challenges posed by the development and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various contexts. The ubiquity of AI applications in everyday life, affecting both citizens and professionals, has made AI a common topic of discussion. However, as is evident from the documents analyzed here, concerns have been raised about the possible negative social consequences of AI, in particular discriminatory bias, making it a particularly relevant issue if people-centred, rights-based AI is to be implemented. This article aims to examine the challenges of defining, identifying and mitigating discriminatory bias in AI systems from two perspectives: (1) to conduct an ethical and normative review of European Commission documents from the last 8 years (from GDPR to AI Act regulation); and (2) to expose recommendations for key stakeholders, including designers, end-users and public authorities, to minimize/mitigate this risk. The document review was carried out on 21 EU regulatory and ethical guidelines in the field of AI, from which 152 measures were extracted, differentiated between design, governance and organizational measures. It has also been observed that there is no clear conceptual framework on the issue at the European level, showing a clear problem in providing definitions of algorithmic bias and discrimination, but not in assessing their potential negative impact on individuals. Secondly, these gaps may affect the concreteness and detail of the possible mitigation/minimization measures proposed and, subsequently, their application in different contexts. Finally, the last section of this paper presents a brief discussion and conclusions on possible issues related to the implementation of the measures extracted and certain limitations of the study.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Radiographic imaging of the pancreas has drawn recent interest as pancreas volume may serve as a biomarker in identifying the likelihood of diabetes development, subtyping diabetes, and identifying prognostic indicators of poor ultimate outcomes. In this review, the role of pancreas imaging is discussed in various forms of diabetes including type 1 diabetes (T1D), type 2 diabetes (T2D), and diabetes of the exocrine pancreas, particularly diabetes following acute or chronic pancreatitis. RECENT FINDINGS: Recent literature of quantitative pancreatic imaging correlating with various forms of diabetes was reviewed. Imaging-derived pancreas volumes are lower in individuals with diabetes, in particular those with T1D. Additionally, morphologic changes, enhancement characteristics, fat content, and MRI signal changes have been observed in different diabetes subtypes. These characteristics, as well as potential confounding variables, are reviewed. Additionally, future areas of research in MRI, CT radiomics, and pancreatitis-related imaging predictors of diabetes are discussed. SUMMARY: Increased understanding of pancreas imaging features which predict diabetes and gauge prognosis has the potential to identify at-risk individuals and will become increasingly important in diabetes care. This article reviews the current knowledge of common pancreas imaging features as well as future directions of ongoing research in diabetes imaging.

BACKGROUND: Some centers utilize ventriculopleural shunt (VPLS) for treating hydrocephalus when conventional approaches are not feasible. Nonetheless, the literature regarding this approach is scarce. PURPOSE: Evaluate the outcomes of VPLS through a single-arm meta-analysis. METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, the authors systematically searched for articles utilizing the VPLS in a cohort with more than four patients. Outcomes included: mortality, pleural effusion, number of patients who underwent revisions, obstructions, shunt migration, emphysema, and subdural hematoma. RESULTS: A total of 404 articles were reviewed, resulting in the inclusion of 13 retrospective studies encompassing 543 patients, with the majority being children (62.6 %). The median average follow-up period was 35.4 months (10-64.1). After analysis, results yielded a revision rate of 54 % (95 % CI: 44 %-64 %; I2=73 %). The most common complication observed was pleural effusion, with a post-analysis incidence of 16 % (95 % CI: 11 %-21 %; I2=63 %), followed by infections at 7 % (95 % CI: 4 %-10 %; I2=33 %). Shunt obstruction occurred in 13 % (95 % CI: 4 %-21 %; I2=84 %) of cases after analysis, while migrations, overdrainage, subdural hematoma, and cutaneous emphysema had minimal occurrence rates (0 %, 95 % CI: 0 %-1 %; I2=0 %). Notably, there were no reported cases of shunt-related mortality. CONCLUSION: VPLS can be considered when there are no other suitable options for placing the distal catheter. However, the notable rates of shunt revisions, pleural effusion, infections, and the inherent heterogeneity of outcomes currently limit the widespread adoption of VPLS. In this scenario, other alternatives should be given priority.

BACKGROUND: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare chronic autoimmune disease with heterogeneous manifestations. In the last decade, several clinical trials have been conducted to evaluate new treatment options for SSc. The purpose of this work is to update the recommendations of the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology in light of the new evidence available for the pharmacological management of SSc. METHODS: A systematic review including randomized clinical trials (RCTs) for predefined questions that were elaborated according to the Patient/Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcomes (PICO) strategy was conducted. The rating of the available evidence was performed according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology. To become a recommendation, at least 75% agreement of the voting panel was needed. RESULTS: Six recommendations were elaborated regarding the pharmacological treatment of Raynaud's phenomenon, the treatment (healing) and prevention of digital ulcers, skin involvement, interstitial lung disease (ILD) and gastrointestinal involvement in SSc patients based on results available from RCTs. New drugs, such as rituximab, were included as therapeutic options for skin involvement, and rituximab, tocilizumab and nintedanib were included as therapeutic options for ILD. Recommendations for the pharmacological treatment of scleroderma renal crisis and musculoskeletal involvement were elaborated based on the expert opinion of the voting panel, as no placebo-controlled RCTs were found. CONCLUSION: These guidelines updated and incorporated new treatment options for the management of SSc based on evidence from the literature and expert opinion regarding SSc, providing support for decision-making in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Depression substantially contributes to pregnancy-related morbidity, and pregnancy is increasingly recognized as a vulnerable window for exposure effects on maternal mental health. Exposures to organophosphate esters (OPEs) are ubiquitous and may have neurotoxic effects; however, their impacts on prenatal depression remain unknown. We evaluated associations of third trimester OPE metabolites on maternal depressive symptoms during pregnancy. METHODS: This study included 422 participants in the Maternal and Developmental Risks from Environmental and Social Stressors (MADRES) cohort, a prospective pregnancy cohort of primarily low-income and Hispanic participants residing in Los Angeles, California. We measured concentrations of nine OPEs in third trimester spot urine samples (mean gestational age= 31.5±2.0 weeks). Using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression (CES-D) scale, we classified participants as having probable depression during pregnancy (N=137) or not (N=285) if one or more CES-D scores administered at each trimester met the suggested cutoff score for clinically significant depressive symptoms (≥16). We estimated associations of prenatal OPE metabolite concentrations in tertiles and risk of prenatal depression using modified Log-Poisson regression. We examined associations of the OPE mixture on depression during pregnancy using Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR). RESULTS: Participants with the highest tertiles of DPHP and BDCIPP exposure had a 67% (95% CI: 22%, 128%) and 47% (95% CI: 4%, 108%) increased risk of maternal depressive symptoms during pregnancy, respectively. No associations between other OPE metabolites and maternal depression symptoms were observed. In mixture analyses, we observed a positive and linear association between higher exposure to the OPE metabolite mixture and odds of prenatal maternal depression, primarily driven by DPHP. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide new evidence of associations between frequently detected OPE metabolites on maternal depression symptoms during pregnancy. Results could inform future intervention efforts aimed at reducing perinatal maternal depression.

Tumor-associated myeloid-derived cells (MDCs) significantly impact cancer prognosis and treatment responses due to their remarkable plasticity and tumorigenic behaviors. Here, we integrate single-cell RNA-sequencing data from different cancer types, identifying 29 MDC subpopulations within the tumor microenvironment. Our analysis reveals abnormally expanded MDC subpopulations across various tumors and distinguishes cell states that have often been grouped together, such as TREM2+ and FOLR2+ subpopulations. Using deconvolution approaches, we identify five subpopulations as independent prognostic markers, including states co-expressing TREM2 and PD-1, and FOLR2 and PDL-2. Additionally, TREM2 alone does not reliably predict cancer prognosis, as other TREM2+ macrophages show varied associations with prognosis depending on local cues. Validation in independent cohorts confirms that FOLR2-expressing macrophages correlate with poor clinical outcomes in ovarian and triple-negative breast cancers. This comprehensive MDC atlas offers valuable insights and a foundation for futher analyses, advancing strategies for treating solid cancers.

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is still a major health problem, especially in low- to mid-income countries, leading premature deaths owing to valvular disease. Although left-sided valvular involvement is most commonly seen in RHD, the tricuspid valve can also be affected. However, there is a lack of information about the prognostic value of primary tricuspid valve (TV) disease in RHD. This study aimed to determine the impact of TV disease on clinical outcome in RHD. This prospective study enrolled patients with rheumatic mitral valve disease (MVD) referred to a tertiary center for management of heart valve disease. Primary rheumatic TV disease was defined by echocardiographic features including thickening of leaflets associated with some degree of restricted mobility. Patients with rheumatic TV disease were matched to patients with MVD using 1:1 genetic matching algorithm that maximized balance of baseline covariates prior to exploring outcome differences. The main outcome was either need for MV replacement or death. Among 694 patients eligible for the study, age of 47 ± 13 years, 84% female, 39 patients (5.6%) had rheumatic TV disease. After excluding patients with incomplete data, 33 patients with TV disease were matched to 33 controls based on age, right-sided heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and MV area. During a mean follow-up of 42 months (median 28, IQR 8 to 71 months), 32 patients (48.5%) experienced adverse events, including 6 cardiovascular deaths and 26 patients who underwent surgery for mitral valve replacement. The adjusted analysis demonstrated a significant association between TV disease and the outcome, with a hazard ratio (HR) of 3.386 (95% CI 1.559-7.353; P = 0.002) in the genetic matched cohort with balance on baseline covariates of interest. The model exhibited good discriminative ability, as indicated by a C-statistic of 0.837. In patients with rheumatic mitral valve disease, rheumatic TV disease significantly increased risk of adverse events compared with matched controls. The involvement of TV may express overall disease severity that adversely affects clinical outcome.

Background Radiation therapy is a mainstay of treatment for brain tumors, but delayed complications include secondary malignancy which may occur months to years after treatment completion. Methods We reviewed the medical records of a 41-year-old female treated with 60 Gy of radiation for a recurrent astrocytoma, who 6 years later developed a locally advanced sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma. We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science to conduct a scoping review of biopsy-proven sinonasal malignancy in patients who previously received cranial irradiation for a brain tumor. Results To our knowledge, this is the first report of a patient to present with a sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma after receiving irradiation for a brain tumor. Our scoping review of 1,907 studies produced 14 similar cases of secondary sinonasal malignancy. Median age of primary cancer diagnosis was 39.5 years old (standard deviation [SD]: 21.9), and median radiation dose was 54 Gy (SD: 20.3). Median latency time between the primary cancer and secondary sinonasal cancer was 9.5 years (SD: 5.8). Olfactory neuroblastoma was the most common sinonasal cancer ( n = 4). Fifty percent of patients died from their sinonasal cancer within 1.5 years. Conclusion Patients who receive radiation exposure to the sinonasal region for treatment of a primary brain tumor, including low doses or scatter radiation, may be at risk of a secondary sinonasal malignancy later in life. Physicians who monitor at-risk patients must be vigilant of symptoms which may suggest sinonasal malignancy, and surveillance should include radiographic review with careful monitoring for a secondary malignancy throughout the entire irradiated field.

BACKGROUND: A paracondylar process is an abnormal bony exostosis arising from the skull base lateral to the occipital condyle and extending inferiorly toward the transverse process of the atlas. Paracondylar processes are typically identified incidentally and vary in size from a small protuberance to an elongated process. OBSERVATIONS: The authors present the first pediatric case of torticollis secondary to a congenital paracondylar process successfully treated with resection of the paracondylar process and sternocleidomastoid release. LESSONS: Cadaveric dissection, three-dimensional models, intraoperative imaging guidance, and multidisciplinary collaboration were paramount to a successful surgical outcome. https://thejns.org/doi/10.3171/CASE2447.

Advances in molecular ecology can overcome many challenges in understanding host-parasitoid interactions. Genetic characterization of the key-players in systems helps to confirm species and identify trophic linkages essential for ecological service delivery by biological control agents; however, relatively few agroecosystems have been explored using this approach. Pecan production consists of a large tree perennial system containing an assortment of seasonal pests and natural enemies. As a first step to characterizing host-parasitoid associations in pecan food webs, we focus on aphid species and their parasitoids. Based on DNA barcoding of field-collected and reared specimens, we confirmed the presence of 3 species of aphid, one family of primary parasitoids, and 5 species of hyperparasitoids. By applying metabarcoding to field-collected aphid mummies, we were able to identify multiple species within each aphid mummy to unravel a complex food web of 3 aphids, 2 primary parasitoids, and upward of 8 hyperparasitoid species. The results of this study demonstrate that multiple hyperparasitoid species attack a single primary parasitoid of pecan aphids, which may have negative consequences for successful aphid biological control. Although further research is needed on a broader spatial scale, our results suggest multiple species exist in this system and may suggest a complex set of interactions between parasitoids, hyperparasitoids, and the 3 aphid species. This was the first time that many of these species have been characterized and demonstrates the application of novel approaches to analyze the aphid-parasitoid food webs in pecans and other tree crop systems.

The ability of polarizable continuum models (PCM) to simulate nonspecific solvent effects (dipolarity and polarizability) was evaluated by calculating the transition energies of 1,1,10,10-tetrabutyldecanonaene (ttbp9) and 2-N,N-dimethylamino-7-nitrofluorene (DMANF), basis of Catalán's polarizability (SP) and dipolarity (SdP) solvent scales, respectively. Time-dependent density-functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations were performed at different levels of theory, employing four basis sets in 10 different solvents, covering the full range of the normalized SP and SdP scales. Transition energies were calculated using linear response (LR) and corrected linear response (cLR2) schemes. Although these methods yielded variable mean absolute errors, the LR-PCM calculations reproduced medium polarizability and dipolarity trends. While calculated ttbp9 transition energies correlated with SP and Laurence's dispersion-induced (DI) scales, the DMANF transition energies correlated poorly with SdP or Laurence's ES dipolarity scales. This result agrees with the fact that DMANF solvatochromism is "contaminated" by solvent polarizability and HB acidity. The incorporation of SP or DI contributions led to much better (r2 > 0.95) correlations with the DMANF-calculated transitions. The results offer a clearer picture of the limitations of continuum models in simulating the behavior of solvatochromic dyes in solution by pointing out their poor performance when specific solvent effects, such as hydrogen-bond interactions, play a significant role in their solvatochromism.

UNSTRUCTURED: Cardiovascular diseases are leading causes of death and morbidity worldwide. CPR and early defibrillation significantly enhance survival rates. Serious Games (SG) improve learning through entertainment. Current strategies target Cardiopulmonary resuscitation for communities and schoolchildren, but none have been validated for children in low-to-middle-income settings. The SG Children Save Hearts, developed in Brazil, teaches the five resuscitation steps according to International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation 2020 guidelines and requires formal usability assessment. The study aimed to evaluate the usability of SG Children Save Hearts among IT and healthcare professionals using the System Usability Scale (SUS). The usability test was conducted in August 2022 in the university's IT department. The game was developed targeting schoolchildren aged 7 to 17. Categorical variables as absolute and relative frequencies, while continuous variables were presented as median with interquartile range (IQR). Normality was assessed using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Comparisons between IT and healthcare professionals were made using the independent t-test for normal distributions or the Mann-Whitney U test for non-normal distributions. We included 17 volunteers with a mean age of 22 years (IQR 20-26). All participants played the game and completed a 10-question survey on its usability using a Likert-type scale. The final grade was converted to a 0 to 100 scale, with a grade above 70 considered acceptable for a minimum viable product. The mean SUS score was 75 (IQR 72.5-87.5). Healthcare professionals gave higher grades to all five domains compared to IT professionals. The average time spent playing the game was 3.2 minutes. Novel technologies have shown promising results for CPR teaching using active teaching methods, but face challenges in developing countries, such as language barriers, device acquisition, cultural differences, and technical support. To our knowledge, this is the first SG developed in portuguese for brazilian schoolchidren. Despite some usability issues, the SG Children Save Hearts is considered adequate for teaching CPR to schoolchildren in Brazil.

Mass vaccinations are crucial public health interventions for curbing infectious diseases. Canine rabies control relies on mass dog vaccination campaigns (MDVCs) that are held annually across the globe. Dog owners must bring their pets to fixed vaccination sites, but sometimes target coverage is not achieved due to low participation. Travel distance to vaccination sites is an important barrier to participation. We aimed to increase MDVC participation in silico by optimally placing fixed-point vaccination locations. We quantified participation probability based on walking distance to the nearest vaccination site using regression models fit to participation data collected over 4 years. We used computational recursive interchange techniques to optimally place fixed-point vaccination sites and compared predicted participation with these optimally placed vaccination sites to actual locations used in previous campaigns. Algorithms that minimized average walking distance or maximized expected participation provided the best solutions. Optimal vaccination placement is expected to increase participation by 7% and improve spatial evenness of coverage, resulting in fewer under-vaccinated pockets. However, unevenness in workload across sites remained. Our data-driven algorithm optimally places limited resources to increase overall vaccination participation and equity. Field evaluations are essential to assess effectiveness and evaluate potentially longer waiting queues resulting from increased participation.

The search for prognostic markers in breast cancer has bumped into a typical feature of these tumors, intra and intertumoral heterogeneity. Changes in the expression profile, localization of these proteins or shedding to the surrounding stroma can be useful in the search for new markers. In this context, classification by molecular subtypes can bring perspectives for both diagnosis and screening for appropriate treatments. However, the Triple Negative (TN) subtype, which is already the one with the worst prognosis, lacks appropriate and consistent molecular markers. In this work, we analyzed 346 human breast cancer samples in tissue microarrays (TMA) from cases diagnosed with invasive breast carcinoma to assess the expression and localization pattern of Maspin and their correlation with clinical parameters. To complement our findings, we also used TCGA data to analyze the mRNA levels of these respective genes. Our data suggests that the TN subtype demonstrates a higher level of cytoplasmic Maspin compared to the other subtypes. Maspin transcript levels follow the same trend. However, TN patients with lower Maspin expression tend to have worse overall survival and free-survival metastasis rates. Finally, we used Maspin expression data to verify possible relationships with the clinicopathological information of our cohort. Our univariate analyses indicate that Maspin is related to the expression of estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR). Furthermore, Maspin expression levels also showed correlation with Scarff-Bloom-Richardson (SBR) parameter, and stromal Maspin showed a relationship with lymph node involvement. Our data is not consistently robust enough to categorize Maspin as a prognostic marker. However, it does indicate a change in the expression profile within the TN subtype.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a collection of genetic disorders caused by abnormalities in collagen and typified by hyperflexible joints, hyperextensible skin, and a tendency for easy bruising and tissue injuries. Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), the most common subtype, presents a diagnostic challenge due to the lack of specific genetic markers. This case report describes a 13-year-old girl with hEDS, presenting with hypermobility, thoracolumbar scoliosis, constipation, glucosuria, microscopic hematuria, urticaria, and intermittent episodes of bilateral hand and feet swelling. Genetic testing revealed a variant of uncertain significance in the COL9A2 gene. An echocardiogram showed a mildly dilated aortic root. The complexity of her presentation underscores the challenges in diagnosing and managing hEDS with multisystem involvement.

Tetrapods (amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals) are model systems for global biodiversity science, but continuing data gaps, limited data standardisation, and ongoing flux in taxonomic nomenclature constrain integrative research on this group and potentially cause biased inference. We combined and harmonised taxonomic, spatial, phylogenetic, and attribute data with phylogeny-based multiple imputation to provide a comprehensive data resource (TetrapodTraits 1.0.0) that includes values, predictions, and sources for body size, activity time, micro- and macrohabitat, ecosystem, threat status, biogeography, insularity, environmental preferences, and human influence, for all 33,281 tetrapod species covered in recent fully sampled phylogenies. We assess gaps and biases across taxa and space, finding that shared data missing in attribute values increased with taxon-level completeness and richness across clades. Prediction of missing attribute values using multiple imputation revealed substantial changes in estimated macroecological patterns. These results highlight biases incurred by nonrandom missingness and strategies to best address them. While there is an obvious need for further data collection and updates, our phylogeny-informed database of tetrapod traits can support a more comprehensive representation of tetrapod species and their attributes in ecology, evolution, and conservation research.
