[Cytologic, karyologic and virologic characteristics of transplantable line AE]. / Tsitologicheskaia, kariologicheskaia i virusologicheskaia kharakteristika perevivaemoi linii A1

Karyological, cytological and virological examinations of A1 continuous cell line were carried out at the level of 600--700th passage. Considerable qualitative changes in the chromosome set of these cells were observed as compared with 335--432nd passage: there was a considerable increase in the number of acrocentric chromosomes and a decrease in the portion of metacentric and submetacentric chromosomes. Possible mechanisms of the karyotype changes ("secondary transformation" in vitro, contamination with other cell lines) and their association with the loss by A1 line of sensitivity to a number of viruses are discussed.
