RESUMO
By means of gel chromatography on Sephadex G-15 crude heparin produced at Polfa into four components (71.6%-I, 5.1%-II, 5.8%-III and 17.5%-IV). These components were characterized by different anticoagulant activity (I-110 IU/mg, II-40.0 IU/mg, III-2.0 IU/mg and IV-55.0 IU/mg), what was connected with variable values of molecular weight and of sulphate groups, glucosamine and uronic acids contents.

The preliminary studies on acidic degradation of heparin were performed. The UV-VIS and 1H-NMR techniques were used. The analogical features of degradation products of heparin, glucuronic acid and furfural were found (7 characteristic groups).

Contents of the solid residue, ash, nitrogen, hexosamines, uronic acids, carboxyl groups, and O- and N-sulphates, as well as mean molecular weights and anticoagulant activities of the crude heparin and the commercial product were compared. The study has confirmed the literature data concerning dependence of biological activity of heparin preparations upon their molecular weight.
