RESUMO

Two groups of patients with herpes zoster were followed up. The first group was subjected, beside a symptomatic therapy, to an immunological and antiviral treatment. The control group was treated only symptomatically. The immunological preparations used were: the immunostimulant SRE (Corynebacterium parvum), which stimulated the lymphocytes and macrophages, Moroxidin (Virustat-Paris) and Antiherpin (interferon inductor), which acted by blocking the virus replication. The preparations were indigenous and atoxic. A significant difference between the courses of disease in the two groups was observed, namely, the severity and duration of subjective and objective symptoms were more than double and followed by persistent neurological sequelae in the control group in comparison with the patients of the experimental group.

RESUMO

A group of 113 patients with herpetic keratitis who were administered besides the classical therapy (local and general) immunologic and antiviral treatments was studied. The following Romanian non-toxic preparations were used: "SRE Immunostimulent", "Moroxidin" chlorhydrate and "Antiherpin". The control group including 120 patients received a classical treatment and the first signs of recovery appeared after 30 days; in 32% of the patients recurrences, were recorded during the first year. The recovery of the patients included in the experimental lot (113) consisted in the disappearance of congestive phenomena after 3-4 days; recurrences occurred in 14% of the patients after 1, 2 or even 4 years, especially in those who received an incomplete treatment.

RESUMO

A complex immuno-chemical therapy (inhibition of viral replication, stimulation of cell mediated immunity, interferon induction) was applied to 75 patients with herpes virus genital infections. Treatment was followed by complete recovery in 66.7% of the subjects and by considerable reduction of relapse frequency and of pain in the others.

RESUMO

A case of progressive vaccinia is described, in a 21 years old man, diagnosed after 8 months of vaccinial lesion's evolution. The area of vaccination developed progressive necrosis and metastatic lesions evolved on various regions of the body. The vaccinia virus was isolated on the chorioallantoic membrane of embryonated eggs, from the cutaneous lesions, blood, internal organs and even from the apparently intact skin.--The serological tests indicated hypogammaglobulinemia with absence of neutralizing antibodies.--The death occured after 366 days. The progressive vaccinia described above represents the case with the most prolonged evolution known until now.

RESUMO

Six cases of severe hemopathy, detected following smallpox revaccination are described. Their onset was favoured by vaccinia virus-induced suppression of cell-mediated and humoral immunity. In two leukemia patients humoral immunity was present, but insufficient to assure protection of the diseased organisms, the outcome being fatal. The pancytopenia syndrome recorded in 4 patients with anergy caused by autoimmune mechanisms had different outcomes: favourable in 2 cases and fatal in the other 2 patients, who died within 4 years.

RESUMO

Anti-vaccina HAI antibody titers were dynamically followed up and correlated with the type of cutaneous reaction in 91 small pox revaccines aged 20-21 years. Serum samples collected at 2-day intervals for 14 days and on day 30 post inoculation (p.i.) were tested. Antibody titer rises began on days 4-6 and continued until day 14 p.i. On day 30 further rises were only recorded in the 9 vaccinees with primovaccinal reactions. The rhythm of antibody rises was almost the same in subjects with ambiguous and major cutaneous reactions.
