RESUMO
Paclitaxel (Taxol) can induce full-thickness skin necrosis at sites distant from those of injection. This side effect may be potentiated in the presence of fluorometholone (FML).

Hair transplantation has become one of the most common cosmetic procedures in men. Complications are reported to be rare. Eight cases of arteriovenous fistulae following the procedure have been recorded in the literature, occurring anywhere from a few weeks to several months after the transplantation. This presentation, the ninth case, is of a 33-year-old man whose procedure was performed in a dermatology clinic and who first saw signs of an enlarged, pulsating blood vessel in the temporal region some 7 weeks later. A photograph of the lesion is presented and the method of treatment of the fistula is described.

Over the last five years 10 patients in our practice have developed second- or third-degree burns following breast reconstruction. This has occurred in the reconstructed breasts of patients who have had tissue expansion, latissimus dorsi flaps, and transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (TRAM) flaps. Second- or third-degree burns have also occurred on the abdomen following TRAM flap procedures. The lack of normal sensation in the surgical areas has been the common etiological factor. Aggressive wound care has led to primary and secondary healing in all patients without the need for skin grafts. Patient education preoperatively and postoperatively is necessary to prevent this potential complication.

Pectoral muscle flexion may impart an unpleasant distortionary appearance on the underlying mammary prosthesis. Surgical manipulation of the pectoral nerves and a change in the location of the mammary prosthesis are potential solutions to these problems.
