RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the effects of motherhood and body perception of pregnant women on sexual dysfunction. METHODS: Data were collected using a demographic data form, the Self-Perception of Pregnants Scale (SPPS) and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). The study which is cross-sectional was conducted with 280 pregnant women. Percentages, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyzes were used for data analysis. FINDINGS: Pregnant women with a positive pregnancy-related motherhood and body perception had low sexual dysfunction. There was a moderately significant positive relationship between sexual functions and pregnancy-related motherhood perception (r: 0.430, p < 0.001) and a moderately significant negative relationship between pregnancy-related body perception (r: -0.376, p < 0.001). CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Healthcare professionals should know what is the motherhood and body perception of pregnants while evaluating sexual health.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of sexual behaviour, intercourse, satisfaction-related myths and spirituality on sexual dysfunctions in Muslim pregnant women. The study had a descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational design and was performed with 215 Muslim pregnant women. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analyses were utilized for data analysis. As a result of the multiple regression analyses, sexual dysfunctions were most affected by sexual behaviour myths and least affected by perceived spirituality. It can be suggested that sexuality should be incorporated into prenatal care and counselling.

RESUMO

Evidence has been limited on the effect of mother-infant skin-to-skin contact on the involution process and maternal postpartum fatigue. This study aimed to determine such effects in a randomized controlled trial conducted in a hospital in Sivas, Turkey. Seventy-five women were randomized into one of two groups. The Mother-Infant Information Form, Involution Process Evaluation Form and Visual Analogue Scale for Fatigue were used to collect data between October 1, 2015 and May 1, 2016. Repeated Measures ANOVAs were used for data analyzes. In the intervention group, routine care and mother-to-infant skin-to-skin contact were provided for 30 minutes in first postnatal hour. In the control group, routine care was provided. At the postnatal second, fourth and 24th hours, fundus heights were 13.4 ± 0.3, 12.9 ± 0.3 and 11.8 ± 0.3 cm, respectively, in the intervention group, and 14.4 ± 0.4, 13.8 ± 0.3 and 12.9 ± 0.3 cm in the control group (p < .05). At the 24th hour, women in the intervention group had higher mean energy levels (29.8 ± 10.1) than the control group (25.1 ± 10.0) (p < .05), and fatigue score, amount of lochia and number of pads were statistically similar between the groups (p > .05). Mothers expressed satisfaction with skin-to-skin practice. Thus, mother-to-infant skin-to-skin contact can be used as a care practice in the postpartum period.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Pregnant women may avoid sexual intercourse or may unavoidably undergo problems in their sexual lives because of various complaints they suffer from. AIM: The study aims to evaluate sexual functions of the pregnant women and to determine the factors that negatively affect their sexual health. METHODS: This is a descriptive research study conducted to evaluate sexual functions of pregnant women. Three hundred six pregnant women admitted to the Women Birth Polyclinics within the Women Birth and Children's Hospital between October 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011 were included in the study. The data were gathered using a personal information form and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Kruskall-Wallis variance analysis and Mann-Whitney U-tests were used for the statistical analysis. MAIN OUTCOMES MEASURES: The main outcome is an assessment of the FSFI domains in pregnancy and relationships between pregnancy complaints and sexual functions. RESULTS: The results indicated that the mean age of the pregnant women was 25.6 ± 5.4 and their length of marriage was 5.93 ± 5.4 years. The study revealed that 88.9% of the pregnant women had sexual desire disorders, 86.9% had sexual arousal disorder, 42.8% had lubrication disorders, 69.6% had orgasm disorders, and 48% had sexual satisfaction disorders. Statistically significant differences were found in correlations between FSFI medians and the characteristics of the pregnant women in terms of age, educational level, length and type of marriage, and gestational week. There were also statistically significant differences in correlations between the pregnancy characteristics in terms of backache, constipation, respiratory difficulty, leg ache, and cramp problems (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: It was determined that the sexual lives of the pregnant women were negatively affected not only by factors such as old age, low educational status, arranged marriages lasting for more than 10 years, undesired pregnancy, and gestational week but also by health problems such as backache, constipation, respiratory difficulty, leg ache, and cramp problems.
