[Rehabilitation features in the prevention of asthma exacerbations in patients with different body weight].

Bronchial asthma patients with excessive body weight compared to persons with normal weight had more severe course of the disease, associating with more pronounced inflammation (increased level of the proinflammatory interleukin-6, interferon-gamma, tumor necrosis factor alpha). After the rehabilitation treatment including speleotherapy we observed the improvement of clinical manifestation and reduction of the studied immune parameters.

[Pulmonary rehabilitation methods in the prevention of acute respiratory infections in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the association with psycho-emotional state].

In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease stage I GOLD we revealed a significant reduction of acute respiratory infections frequency after pulmonary rehabilitation using salt aerosol therapy; however, in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease stage II GOLD such a reduction we have not seen. We didn't find marked reduction of acute respiratory infections frequency also in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease stage I GOLD with higher depression level.

[Effectiveness of short courses of fasting in pre-asthma and asthma patients]. / Efektyvnist' korotkykh kursiv rozvantazhuval'no-diietychnoï terapiï pry peredastmi ta bronkhialnii astmi.

In patients with preasthma and bronchial asthma, short-term courses of fasting dietotherapy (FDT) with a 7-day fasting period proved to be effective, as evidenced by clinical-and-functional and laboratory investigations. The incidence rate of viral infections was much lower with short-term courses compared to long-term courses. Too low an effect, if any, with FDT short-term courses can be explained by excess of the patient's body weight. Short-term FDT courses with a 3-day fasting period have been found out to result in a significant decrease in the level of anxiety, as measured by Spilberger Anxiety Inventory.

[Clinical study of anti-leukotriene therapy with montelukast in bronchial asthma patients]. / Klinichnyi dosvid zastosuvannia antileikotriienovogo preparatu montelukastu v kompleksnomu likuvanni khvorykh na bronkhial'nu astmu.

Clinical and functional efficacy of the antileukotriene agent montelucast (singulair) was investigated in 30 patients with moderately severe bronchial asthma. Patients with a positive FEV1 response to montelukast (61.1%) demonstrated a higher blood level of IgE and sputum eosinophilia. Enhancement of bronchodilatatory effect secondary to the use of beta 2-agonist has been recordable in the wake of a 24-day montelucast treatment (10 mg o.d.).

[The psychosomatic correlations and the antibodies to lung tissue in patients with bronchial asthma]. / Psykhosomatychni zv'iazky ta antytila do lehenevoï tkanyny u khvorykh na bronkhial'nu astmu.

Forty-four patients with bronchial asthma, aside from clinical and functional evaluation, were studied for the psychological profile (MMPI-test) and the presence of antibodies to the lung tissue. The correlations established were as follows: normal titers of antibodies to the lung tissue--more agreeable and satisfactory psychological profile of the patients, the lower or higher the antibody titer, the less acceptable is the psychological profile.

[Natural killer activity in a viral infection in patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis]. / Natural'na kilerna aktyvnist' pry virusnii infektsiï u khvorykh na khronichnyi obstruktyvnyi bronkhit.

A study was made into the natural killer (NK) cells reaction to viral infection in those patients presenting with chronic obstructive bronchitis (COB). During acute viral infection (AVI) the COB patients' NK cells were found out to be activated in spite of a decline in their functional capabilities but to a slighter degree than they were in healthy subjects. COB patients failed to be provided with adequate antiviral defence during AVI since the virus was still detectable in many of them in the presence of a decline in NK cells activity, clinical improvement, and even during remission.
