RESUMO

Ensuring the safety of patient medication management is a public health priority. In hospitals, the medication circuit involves risks, especially in terms of storage. As part of an institutional project, the deployment of computerized medicine cabinets in our hospital's care units was initiated in 2015. By 2022, almost all care departments were equipped. Each drug picking is carried out by the registered nurse according to the patient's name, in accordance with the administration plan. In addition, local recommendations are to collect medication for a maximum of 24hours. In this context, our objective was to assess nursing professional practices in order to identify the steps requiring action plans. To meet this objective, we i) studied the compliance of computerized drug samplings with prescriptions on a given day throughout the establishment, ii) assessed picking practices with an observational audit, and iii) proposed questionnaires, including practical cases and satisfaction questions. Over 300 prescriptions were analyzed, including 2,511 drugs requiring at least one collect on the day of the assessment. The compliance rate for picking in relation to the drugs prescribed was 44.7%. According to the audit observation, the picking compliance rate was 74.5%. Non-compliances were mainly linked to the selection of the wrong patient at the computerized medicine cabinet and/or to a picking for longer than the recommended duration. Finally, the rate of correct answers to the proposed cases was 61.9%, and nurses were generally satisfied or very satisfied with the equipment.

RESUMO

The incidence of PSE (pale, soft and exudative) pork meat is directly influenced by pre-slaughter handling of animals, compromising meat quality and resulting in economic losses for industry. Considering management, the main extrinsic stress factors are: the pre-slaughter rest time in lairage, the total fasting time and at farm and the transport time. To evaluate the effects of these factors on PSE meat incidence, pH of 1038 carcasses was measured at 45 minutes post mortem (pH45) in a pig slaughterhouse in Paraná, Brazil. Carcasses with pH45≤5.8 were classified as PSE, and those with pH45>5.8 as normal. In order to verify if the factors influence PSE meat appearance, it was divided into categories according to it duration, and according to the number of animals evaluated in each category, the PSE meat frequency was estimated, and which time intervals obtained the lower incidence of the change. The total incidence of PSE carcasses was 19.17%. The periods of rest in lairage, total fasting, fasting at farm and transport that minimized the occurrence of PSE meat were from 04h01 to seven hours, from 14h01 to 17h00, from 03h01 to five hours, and from 02h01 to three hours, respectively.

RESUMO

Teratomas are histologically complex tumors arising from germ cells of two or three embryonic layers either in the gonads or occasionally from germ cells that mistakenly migrated to ectopic sites. A case of retroperitoneal teratoma in a regularly slaughtered 4-month-old, male domestic rabbit is reported. A pale reddish, 3 x 4 cm, fibrous mass was detected, loosely connected to the parietal wall in the retroperitoneal region cranial to the kidney. Histologically, the neoplasm contained tissues from ectodermal, endodermal and mesodermal germ layers: nerves and neurons simulating ganglia, cysts lined by squamous epithelium containing keratin and hair, skin adnexa; respiratory glandular epithelium, serous and salivary glands; collagenous connective tissue, muscle fibers, mature cartilage and bone, bone marrow, teeth and fat. To the authors' knowledge this is the first report of a retroperitoneal teratoma in the rabbit.
