RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bone marrow edema lesions around the knee are a common magnetic resonance image finding. They constitute a central component of a wide variety of inflammatory and noninflammatory conditions affecting the knee joint. Those lesions are not only a significant source of pain, but are also connected to many musculoskeletal pathologies. CASE REPORT: We describe 2 cases of bone marrow edema of the knee joint treated with the aid of Classical Homeopathy. In both of the cases, Arnica montana was the chosen homeopathic remedy. CONCLUSIONS: The results of the treatment are promising, encouraging for more research on this area.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Contemporary medicine is in great need of a new patient health group classification that could be the basis for in-depth pathology assessments, disease development and prognosis, and the possibility of healing, as well as for possible complications of organism reactions to treatment processes. This classification is possible if founded on holistic approaches at the level of health assessment from the point of view of organism reactivity and resistance. Such a classification, assigning 12 levels and 4 health groups, exists in classical homeopathy. METHODS: A new method for determining the group and level of health is shown in a case of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis of a generalized form in an 11-year-old girl, treated with classical homeopathy. The follow-up of the case is 18 years. CONCLUSION: The method allows the physician to assess the organism dynamics as a whole during the pathology development.

RESUMO

We present 2 cases of severe postoperative sore throat, hoarseness, aphonia, and dysphagia, after a laryngeal mask insertion, who were treated successfully with the homeopathic remedy Arnica montana. Three doses of Arnica montana 200CH were given to the patients over 36 hours. Although the symptoms were very intense, the remedy was very effective and cleared most of the symptoms in 48 hours.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to assess the usefulness of the cast index and an indigenously developed gap index as measures of poor moulding of plaster. Twenty cases of re-manipulation of distal third radius fractures in children excluding growth plate injuries were compared with a control of 80 patients. A significant difference (<0.001) was observed in the cast index and the gap index of both the groups. The gap index was more sensitive than the cast index in predicting failure. At a level of cast index of more than 0.8 the relative risk of failure is 6.8 as compared with 35 when the sum of the gap index is more than 0.15. The gap index is a better predictor of failure than the cast index. A quick assessment of these indices is a good practice before accepting any plaster following a manipulation of distal radial fractures.
