Epidermocyte nuclear-nucleolar system in atopic dermatitis and lichen planus.

Study of the epidermocyte nuclear-nucleolar system in atopic dermatitis and lichen planus by computer morphometry of preparations stained with 50% AgNO3 showed an increase in their morphometric parameters, reflecting hyperregeneratory processes.

[Cytometric characterization of the cell nucleus and nucleolus apparatus in dysplasia and exocervical cancer of the cervix uteri].

The morphometric parameters of the nucleonucleolar apparatus of the intact stratified squamous epithelium of the cervix uteri, dysplasias, and exocervical cancer were studied by computed morphometry of 50% silver nitrate solution-stained cytological specimens in order to study nucleolar organizers. It was shown that dysplastic changes and malignant transformation were marked by a progressive increase in the values of morphometric parameters of its nucleonucleolar apparatus. The staining of nucleolar organizers is relatively simple and it is expedient to use it for a specifying cytological diagnosis. The advantage of the staining is to identify rare atypical cells in cytological specimens.

Effect of zosterin on protein-synthesizing activity of hepatocytes.

The effect of zosterin (pectin polysaccharide) on the protein-synthesizing function of mouse liver cells was studied after its intragastric administration of 1% gel zosterin. The drug modified the morphology and function of the nucleolar apparatus by changing the number and summary area of the nucleoli, content of Ag proteins, nucleolar/nuclear ratio, and increased protein content in hepatocyte cytoplasm.

[Morphological types of the glandular epithelium nuclei from benign and malignant mammary gland diseases]. / Morfotipy iader zhelezistogo épiteliia pri dobrokachestvennykh i zlokachestvennykh zabolevaniiakh molochnykh zhelez.

The morphometric parameters of the nuclear-nucleolar apparatus of benign and malignant mammary cells were investigated by computer-aided morphometry of cytological specimen stained by a 50% silver nitrate solution. On the basis of a static analysis of measurement results a computer soft was created to classify the nuclei. The soft, with respect to an analysis of the discriminative functions and to a variety of formally logical limitations, subdivides the nuclei into 6 morphotypes with variations "a" and "b", which correspond to certain clinical and morphological variants of breast diseases. From the practical viewpoint, the subdivision of nuclei into the 3rd and 4th morphotypes is most interesting because it can provide the clinical cytology expert with extra information for the differential diagnostics of proliferative and malignant transformations in the mammary glands as well as for the definition of dysplasia stages and for the determination of tumor-cell malignancy degree.

Effects of endothelin-1 on DNA synthesis and NADPH diaphorase activity in epithelial and smooth muscle cells of the tracheobronchial system in newborn albino rats after repeated treatment with NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester.

Newborn rats received intraperitoneal injections of endothelin-1 in a daily dose of 5 x 10(-8)mol/kg 30 min after administration of NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (9.3 x 10(-5)mol/kg intraperitoneally) from the 2nd to 6th day of life. NADPH diaphorase activity in epithelial and smooth muscle cells of the tracheobronchial system increased 24 h after the last treatment. In this period DNA synthesis underwent opposite changes, which included the inhibition of epithelial cell proliferation and stimulation of smooth muscle cell division. Intensification of free radical oxidation in the lung tissue was accompanied by inactivation of the antioxidant system.

Effects of atrial natriuretic peptide on DNA synthesis and NADPH diaphorase activity in epitheliocytes and smooth muscle cells of the respiratory tract in newborn albino rats.

Newborn rats received single intraperitoneal injections of atrial natriuretic peptide (1-28) in a dose of 3.2x10(-8) mol/kg on day 6 of life. Autoradiography with 3H-thymidine showed that the peptide inhibited DNA synthesis in smooth muscle cells of the respiratory tract. Pretreatment with nitric oxide synthase inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester attenuated, but did not abolish the effect of atrial natriuretic peptide (1-28). Histochemical assay for NADPH diaphorase showed that nitric oxide constitutively produced in the epithelium is involved in the growth-inhibitory effect of atrial natriuretic peptide (1-28) on proliferating smooth muscle cells.

[Study of proliferative activity and nucleolar organizers in the epidermis of patients with psoriasis]. / Issledovanie proliferativnoi aktivnosti i iadryshkovykh organizatorov v épidermise u bol'nykh psoriazom.

Time course of proliferative activity of the epidermis was studied in patients with psoriasis by analysis of histoautoradiography data and evaluation of the activity of the ribosome nucleolar organizers. The findings indicate that the proliferative activity is increased in psoriasis. The activity of the ribosome nucleolar organizers increases during the progressive stage of psoriasis and notably decreases during the stationary stage, while during regressive stage this activity is the same as in apparently normal (after resolution of eruptions) skin of psoriasis patients. The results indicate that evaluation of the activity of nucleolar organizers in psoriatic elements can serve as an important additional test in laboratory diagnosis of psoriasis stages.

Dynorphin administered to newborn rats modulates morphogenesis of the heart.

Proliferation, activity of the nucleolar organizer region, and protein content in cardiomyocytes were studied in 21-day-old rats intraperitoneally treated with kappa-opioid receptor agonist dynorphin A(1-13) in a dose of 100 microg/kg on postnatal days 2-6. The content of catecholamines in the heart and proliferative activity of cardiomyocytes remained unaffected, but the number of nucleoli in cardiomyocyte nuclei and the integral optical density of cardiomyocytes stained with amido black B (protein content) increased. The data suggest that administration of dynorphin to newborn rats considerably modulates morphogenesis of the heart at later terms.

Staining of the nucleolar ribosome organizer with AgNO3 followed by computer analysis of images by discriminant analysis helped distinguish 6 morphological types in the cells of cytological preparations of mammary glands. Comparison of the morphometrical data and results of visual examination of cells showed that the first type included nonproliferating fibroadenoma and mastopathy, type 2 fibroadenoma and mastopathy with moderate proliferation of epithelium, type 3 fibroadenoma and mastopathy with precancer epithelial proliferation, and types 4-6 included malignant proliferating cells which are compatible with well, moderately, and poorly differentiated cancer.

[Analysis of morphometric parameters of utero-placental metabolism]. / Analiz morfometricheskikh pokazatelei matochno-platsentarnogo obmena.

Several stages in the study of utero-placental metabolism are described. First is measuring of the placenta volume, its fixation, then follows determination of the stereomicroscopic characteristics of the placenta. The third stage is measurements of resorptive placenta surface, and the fourth-estimation of morphometric values of the utero-placental metabolism. Integral values of this metabolism and the amount of blood per resorptive surface unit is recommended to determine allowing for morphology of the villi. All the morphometric values are expressed in the absolute units in relation to the total placenta volume.

[The effect of a low-intensity helium-neon laser on succinate dehydrogenase activity in unmineralized periodontal and dental tissues]. / Vliianie nizkointensivnogo gelii-neonovogo lazera na aktivnost' suktsinatdegidrogenazy v nemineralizovannykh tkaniakh parodonta i zubov.

Laser effects with energy density of 28.8, 86.4, 144 J/cm2 and 86.4 J/cm2 in combination with fluorine agents on succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) activity were studied in 264 noninbred white rats (5 groups). The animals were decapitated in 1, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 h and 12 and 30 days. The findings evidence elevated SDH activity virtually in all periods tested. Laser exposure enhanced enzymic activity in all the animals.
