RESUMO

The aim of this review was to study why, despite large investments in research and development, algae biodiesel is still not price competitive with fossil fuels. Microalgal production was confirmed to be a critical cost item (84 up to 93 %) for biodiesel regardless of the production technology. Techno-economic assessment revealed the main cost drivers during mass cultivation. It is argued that a breakthrough in the cultivation efficiency of microalgae is identified as a necessary condition for achieving price-competitive microalgal biodiesel. The key bottlenecks were identified as follows: (1) light and O2 concentration management; (2) overnight respiratory loss of oil. It is concluded that most of the research on microalgae biodiesel yields economically over-optimistic presumptions because it has been based on laboratory scale experiments with a low level of interdisciplinary overlap.

RESUMO

The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between the spatial distribution of the selected medical equipment and the preventable mortality rate in the regions of the Slovak Republic. The main analytical approach is carried out through the cluster analysis based on a Euclidean distance technique in order to get similarity of the administrative divisions in form of a district and a pseudot2 approach aimed at the determination of a number of the districts in a cluster. A number of medical equipment had a rising tendency from the year 2008. The most extreme position according to a localisation distribution of the computed tomographs and the magnetic resonance imaging scanners is held by the Kosice IV District at the level of 7.50630. From an angle of view of the preventable mortality, the Piestany District holds the most extreme position peaking at the level of 10.97969 for the female sex and the Kezmarok District with the value of 9.44088. The study has the significant dissemination outputs for health policy interventions, especially to draw up regional health plans for computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging deployment, mainly in locations with a high preventable mortality rate for both sexes.

RESUMO

RE-VERSE AD, a prospective multicentric cohort study, examined the effect of idarucizumab on 2 cohorts of patients anticoagulated with dabigatran - in cohort A in patients with uncontrollable or life threatening bleeding, in cohort B in patients who undergo acute surgery. Within the study patients were intravenously administered 5 g antidote divided into 2 doses per 2.5 g within 15 min to eliminate the anticoagulation effect of dabigatran. A series of case studies is presented to describe the use of idarucizumab within the RE-VERSE AD study and in clinical practice in the period of 2015-2016 at the University Hospital Hradec Králové. The included examples illustrate the benefit of dabigatran as the only drug so far from the group of direct oral anticoagulants which has an antidote.Key words: antidote - bleeding - dabigatran - direct oral anticoagulants - DOAC - high risk of bleeding - idarucizumab - intervention.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Taxine alkaloids cause fatal poisoning, in particular due to the compound's toxic effect on the cardiovascular apparatus. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 39-year-old Caucasian man with common yew intoxication for whom cardiopulmonary resuscitation using all available methods, although delayed and extended, was successful. CONCLUSIONS: Extended and delayed cardiopulmonary resuscitation can be used successfully to treat common yew intoxication.
