RESUMO

Surveys of Tabanus in Thailand were carried out in 1975 and 1978. After examination and identification in detail, twenty species were identified. It is concluded that the physiography, agricultural pattern are such that the Thai Tabanus species are concentrated in the north and northeastern parts of Thailand. As a whole, it appears that only Tabanus belonging to the tribe Tabanini are of medical and veterinary importance in Thailand.

RESUMO

The calliphorid flies collected from different localities in Thailand were examined to study their medical importance as well as to study from the zoogeographical standpoint of view. Fourty-two species of 15 genera, Bengalia, Caliphora, Catapicephala, Chrysomya, Hemipyrellia, Hypopygiopsis, Lucilia, Melinda, Onesia, Phumosia, Pollenia, Polleniopsis, Tainanina, Tricycleopsis and Verticia belonging to both the subfamilies Calliphorinae and Chrysomyinae were found in Thailand. Many species are newly recorded from this country. The little known species, which are redescribed in detail with the illustration of the male genitalia and female ovipositors, and the key, which is revised to the genera and species, are also presented in this paper.

RESUMO

Flies from different geographical parts of Thailand were collected to study their medical importance as well as making a zoogeographical study. After examination, 32 species of 10 genera, Orthellia, Mitroplatia, Morellia, Pyrellia, Rypellia, Haematobia, Haematobosca, Stygeromyia, Haematostoma and Stomoxys, belonging to Muscidae were identified and these are reported in this paper. Some of these are newly recorded ones from this country. This study is based on the specimens available in the authors' collection.

RESUMO

The study on the altitudinal distribution of muscid and caliphorid flies was firstly carried out in the Doi Indhanondh mountain in March 1976. Twenty-eight species of muscid and calliphorid flies, belonging to 10 genera, were collected in this study. The calliphorid flies were classified into 7 genera and 19 species (2,442 individuals) and the muscid flies were classified into 3 genera and 9 species (1,061 individuals). The data and figures are shown in this paper.

RESUMO

The morphological, life-cycle, and experimental studies of Megaselia scalaris were reported. This fly is commonly found both in urban and rural areas in Thailand. It is easily identified and the humped thorax was the most distinct characteristic of the adult. The egg to the adult stage and the life span required 15 to 20 days for the male and 16 to 22 days for the female. Experimental attempts to induce myiasis infection in laboratory animals were unsuccessful.

RESUMO

As for the genus Lucilia, only one species, Lucilia papuensis Macquart, has been recorded by R. Senior-White el al. in Thailand. During our survey in Thailand in 1975, we found newly 3 more species belonging to the genus Lucilia. These are L. cuprina (Wiedemann), L. porphyrina (Walker) and L. sinensis Aubertin. The female of L. sinensis has never been reported. Therefore, the female genitalia of L. sinensis are illustrated in this paper and compared with those of L. papuensis. The male genitalia of L. sinensis and L. papuensis are also illustrated in this paper.

RESUMO

Species of flies, Calliphora vomitoria (Linné) and C. pattoni Aubertin, found for the first time in Thailand are reported, together with detailed illustrations of genitalia. These are known to be Palearctic species, which are commonly found in Europe or northern parts of Asia. These flies were found in Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand, which belongs to the Oriental region.

RESUMO

A survey of flies in Bangkok and neighboring province revelaed that among 8,675 flies collected there were 10 genera and 18 species of flies, eg. Musca domestica, M. bezzii, M. conducens, M. nebulo, Chrysomyia megacephala, C. rufifacies, Phaenicia sericata, P. cuprina, Sarcophaga ruficornis, S. peregrina, S. orchidae, S. albiceps, Megaselia scalaris, Lispe orientalis, Anaclysta flexa, Morellia hortensia, Hemipyrellia ligurriens and Orthellia coeruleifrons. Musca mostly bred in low-protein content media, eg., garbage piles of vegetable and rice, and was predominant in the morning while Chrysomyia and Phaenicia mostly bred in high-protein content media, eg., animal carcasses, and were predominant in the afternoon. Female flies were bigger than male and they were more predominant than males in or around breeding places. The density of flies was correlated with the relative humidity but not with rainfall or temperature. The density of flies was correlated with the occurrence of gastrointestinal diseases. Some cases of myiasis have been reported from Thailand.
