Background: Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare malignancy that originates from smooth muscle. The most common sites of metastases include the lungs, liver, kidney, and skin. Notably, metastases of LMS to the central nervous system/or spine are extremely rare. When a cervical spinal LMS lesion was encountered, the patient successfully underwent gross total tumor resection with negative margins. Case Description: A 63-year-old female had undergone an anterior cervical C5-C7 diskectomy and fusion 18 years ago and resection of a retroperitoneal LMS 3 years ago. She newly presented with right-sided numbness and pain of 2 months duration that correlated with a focal right-sided C5-level hemiparesis (i.e., 4/5 motor strength). When the cervical magnetic resonance demonstrated a right-sided C5 intralaminar mass with extension into the C5-C6 foramen, she underwent posterior tumor resection; pathologically, this proved to be an LMS metastasis. Respectively, 1- and six months postoperatively, follow-up magnetic resonance imaging scans showed no tumor recurrence; she tolerated adjuvant oncological treatment accompanied by physical therapy. However, in one postoperative year, the lesion recurred, and she is presently under consideration for additional surgical management. Conclusion: Gross total surgical resection is the first line of treatment for patients with metastatic LMS. Here, a patient with a C5 laminar/C5-C6 foraminal bony LMS metastasis underwent posterior tumor resection accompanied by adjuvant oncological treatment but exhibited disease recurrence within one postoperative year.

Chest trauma is one of the most serious and difficult injuries, with various complications that can lead to ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) mismatch and systemic hypoxia. We are presenting a case of a 53-year-old male with no chronic therapy who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit due to severe respiratory failure after chest trauma. He developed a right-sided pneumothorax, and then a thoracic drain was placed. On admission, the patient was hemodynamically unstable and tachypneic. He was intubated and mechanically ventilated, febrile (38.9 °C) and unconscious. A lung CT showed massive non-ventilated areas, predominantly in the right lung, guiding repeated therapeutic and diagnostic bronchoalveolar lavages. He was ventilated with PEEP of 10 cmH2O with a FiO2 of 0.6-0.8. Empirical broad-spectrum antimicrobial therapy was immediately initiated. Both high FiO2 and moderate PEEP were maintained and adjusted according to the current blood gas values and oxygen saturation. He was weaned from mechanical ventilation, and non-invasive oxygenation was continued. After Stenotrophomonas maltophilia was identified and treated with sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, a regression of lung infiltrates was observed. In conclusion, both ventilatory and antibiotic therapy were needed to improve the oxygenation and outcome of the patient with S. maltophilia pneumonia and V/Q mismatch.

BACKGROUND: Monte Carlo (MC) simulations or measurements in anthropomorphic phantoms are recommended for estimating fetal dose in pregnant patients in radiotherapy. Among the many existing phantoms, there is no commercially available physical phantom representing the entire pregnant woman. PURPOSE: In this study, the development of a low-cost, physical pregnant female phantom was demonstrated using commercially available materials. This phantom is based on the previously published computational phantom. METHODS: Three tissue substitution materials (soft tissue, lung and bone tissue substitution) were developed. To verify Tena's substitution tissue materials, their radiation properties were assessed and compared to ICRP and ICRU materials using MC simulations in MV radiotherapy beams. Validation of the physical phantom was performed by comparing fetal doses obtained by measurements in the phantom with fetal doses obtained by MC simulations in computational phantom, during an MV photon breast radiotherapy treatment. RESULTS: Materials used for building Tena phantom are matched to ICRU materials using physical density, radiation absorption properties and effective atomic number. MC simulations showed that percentage depth doses of Tena and ICRU material comply within 5% for soft and lung tissue, up to 25 cm depth. In the bone tissue, the discrepancy is higher, but again within 5% up to the depth of 5 cm. When the phantom was used for fetal dose measurements in MV photon breast radiotherapy, measured fetal doses complied with fetal doses calculated using MC simulation within 15%. CONCLUSIONS: Physical anthropomorphic phantom of pregnant patient can be manufactured using commercial materials and with low expenses. The files needed for 3D printing are now freely available. This enables further studies and comparison of numerical and physical experiments in diagnostic radiology or radiotherapy.

Background and objective: The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on medical practice worldwide. In this study, we aimed to investigate the trends of elective spine surgery in our department before and during the pandemic. Materials and methods: Total number of spine procedures due to disc herniation (DH) or spinal stenosis (SS) was collected during 2019-2021 in the Department of Neurosurgery, University Hospital Center Osijek, Croatia. In order to elucidate potential risk factors in the post-pandemic period, demographic data were collected for patients who underwent surgery during 2021. Results: In 2020, there was a 22.1% decrease in the number of surgeries compared to 2019 (205 vs. 263), but during 2021 we observed an increase of 36.1% compared to 2020 (279 vs. 205). The mean age of patients in 2021 was 53.14 years (53.14 ± 13.05) with body mass index of 28.31 kg/m2 (28.31 ± 4.89). There were 179 overweight patients (74%) and 103 smokers (42.6%). Although male and female patients were equally represented (121 each), there was a significant interaction of weight class and sex (p = 0.013). Patients younger than 65 were more likely to undergo surgery due to DH (p < 0.001), whereas older patients were more likely to suffer from SS (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The volume of elective spine surgeries decreased in the first year of the pandemic and increased the following year. Our results suggest that public health policies in the early pandemic period reduced elective surgical procedures, which was followed by a compensatory increase in the following period.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive glial tumor of the central nervous system. Despite intense scientific efforts, patients diagnosed with GBM and treated with the current standard of care have a median survival of only 15 months. Patients are initially treated by a neurosurgeon with the goal of maximal safe resection of the tumor. Obtaining tissue samples during surgery is indispensable for the diagnosis of GBM. Technological improvements, such as navigation systems and intraoperative monitoring, significantly advanced the possibility of safe gross tumor resection. Usually within six weeks after the surgery, concomitant radiotherapy and chemotherapy with temozolomide are initiated. However, current radiotherapy regimens are based on population-level studies and could also be improved. Implementing artificial intelligence in radiotherapy planning might be used to individualize treatment plans. Furthermore, detailed genetic and molecular markers of the tumor could provide patient-tailored immunochemotherapy. In this article, we review current standard of care and possibilities of personalizing these treatments. Additionally, we discuss novel individualized therapeutic options with encouraging results. Due to inherent heterogeneity of GBM, applying patient-tailored treatment could significantly prolong survival of these patients.

Gabriele-de Vries syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disease caused by de novo pathogenic variants in the Yin Yang 1 (YY1) gene. Individuals with this syndrome present with multiple congenital anomalies, as well as a delay in development and intellectual disability. Herein, we report the case of a newborn male patient with a novel de novo pathogenic variant in the Guanine Nucleotide-Binding Protein, Alpha Stimulating (GNAS) gene, which was identified by whole-exome sequencing. Our patient suffered from a large open spinal dysraphism which was treated surgically immediately after birth. During the follow-up, facial dysmorphism, bladder and bowel incontinence, and mildly delayed motor and speech development were observed. Congenital central nervous system disorders were also confirmed radiologically. In this case report, we present our diagnostic and treatment approaches to this patient. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of Gabriele-de Vries syndrome presenting with spinal dysraphism. Extensive genetic evaluation is the cornerstone in treatment of patients with suspected Gabriele-de Vries syndrome. However, in cases with potentially life-threatening conditions, surgery should be strongly considered.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignancy of the brain with a relatively short median survival and high mortality. Advanced age, high socioeconomic status, exposure to ionizing radiation, and other factors have been correlated with an increased incidence of GBM, while female sex hormones, history of allergies, and frequent use of specific drugs might exert protective effects against this disease. However, none of these explain the pathogenesis of GBM. The most recent WHO classification of CNS tumors classifies neoplasms based on their histopathological and molecular characteristics. Modern laboratory techniques, such as matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) imaging mass spectrometry, enable the comprehensive metabolic analysis of the tissue sample. MALDI imaging is able to characterize the spatial distribution of a wide array of biomolecules in a sample, in combination with histological features, without sacrificing the tissue integrity. In this review, we first provide an overview of GBM epidemiology, risk, and protective factors, as well as the recent WHO classification of CNS tumors. We then provide an overview of mass spectrometry workflow, with a focus on MALDI imaging, and recent advances in cancer research. Finally, we conclude the review with studies of GBM that utilized MALDI imaging and offer our perspective on future research.

BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders may be directly associated with the intensity of acute brain injury, edema of the brainstem, and opioid use in neurosurgical patients. METHODS: In this retrospective study, patient demographic characteristics, computed tomography (CT) scans, the occurrence of gastroparesis, constipation, and opioid use were registered during the intensive care unit (ICU) stay and correlated with days of mechanical ventilation, length of ICU stay, and survival. Gastroparesis was defined as residual gastric volume > 250 mL per day, and constipation was defined as the absence of stool for 3 days or more during the ICU stay. RESULTS: Of 207 neurosurgical patients screened, 69 adult patients who spent more than 4 days in the ICU were included in the study. Gastroparesis was observed in 48 (69.6%) patients, constipation was observed in 67 (97.1%) patients, and stress ulcers were observed in 4 (5.8%) patients. Patients with brainstem edema (n = 57, 82.6%) had the first stool evacuation later compared with patients with no edema (8 [interquartile range (IQR) 5.25-9.75] vs. 3.5 [IQR 2.25-4] days; P < 0.001). In the logistic regression analysis, factors that were associated with GI dysmotility were central nervous system (CNS) bleeding (odds ratio [OR] 5.1, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.26-20.8, P = 0.02), opioid use > 19.3 morphine equivalents (ME) per day (OR 5.37, 95% CI 1.1-27.1, P = 0.04), and brainstem edema (OR 4.9, 95% CI 1.1-21.6, P = 0.04). A receiver operating characteristic curve analysis confirmed that the cutoff value of > 6.78 ME per day was a good predictor determining GI dysmotility, with 89.5% sensitivity and 72.7% specificity (95% CI 0.67-0.88, area under the curve 0.784, Youden index 0.62, P = 0.001). Poor survival correlated with lower Glasgow Coma Score values (ρ = - 520, P < 0.001), CNS bleeding (ρ = 0.393, P < 0.001), associated cardiac diseases (ρ = 0.279, P < 0.001), and cardiorespiratory arrest on admission (ρ = 0.315, P < 0.001), but not with GI dysmotility (ρ = 0.175, P = 0.402). CONCLUSIONS: Significant correlation was registered between brainstem edema, gastrointestinal dysmotility, and opioids. CNS bleeding was the most important single factor influencing GI dysmotility. Further studies with opioid and nonopioid sedation may distinguish the influence of acute brain lesions versus drugs on GI dysmotility.

Higher turnaround of urologic patients in the tertiary clinical center can lead to more accompanying complications, ranging from 1% to 55% for various procedures, with the incidence of vascular injuries varying from 0.43% up to 9.5%. In patients with impaired renal function, it is imperative to prevent the loss of normal kidney function and potential hemodialysis. Being minimally invasive, endovascular procedures such as renal artery embolization (RAE) can treat major and life-threatening complications, but good and prompt communication between urologists and interventional radiologist is necessary for fast and effective treatment. Absolute contraindications for RAE are the presence of acute infection and previously known anaphylactic reaction to the iodine contrast media, while previous mild or moderate allergic reactions to iodine contrast media are not contraindications for RAE. Currently used embolic agents can be divided into temporary and permanent embolization agents. While the temporary embolization agent available is a gelatin sponge that could be used as complementary material or stand-alone, for permanent embolization interventional radiologists use microparticles, microspheres, liquid embolic agents, coils, and microcoils. RAE procedures are considered to be safe with a low incidence of complications, with non-target embolization being the most serious one. Postembolization syndrome is considered to be the most common adverse effect and it involves around 90% of patients. The overall results show that RAE is a safe, minimally invasive procedure that can effectively treat significant complications caused by other urologic procedures, with the reported success rates of 87%-100%.

Tracheal measurements in the intensive care unit (ICU) are important for the choice of endotracheal tube and may correlate with patient demographic characteristics and infections. The study included 42 surgical patients, age 60 [48-71] years, who underwent diagnostic chest computed tomography (CT) scans during treatment in the ICU, Osijek University Hospital, in 2019 and 2020. CT scans were analyzed using AW Server 3.2. Measurement analysis showed that the diameters of the tracheobronchial tree, the length of the trachea and left main bronchus were significantly larger in men compared to women (p<0.05 all). The smallest tracheal upper diameter was 15.25 [IQR 11.8-18.8] mm vs. 17.95 [13.55-20.05] mm in septic and nonseptic patients, respectively (p=0.028). A total of 26 patients who underwent CT scans developed nosocomial pneumonia. It was right-sided in 15, left-sided in 6 and bilateral in 5 patients, and correlated significantly with the left main bronchus length (ρ=0.515, p=0.007). No correlation was observed between tracheobronchial measurements and length of ICU treatment, number of hours spent on mechanical ventilation, or survival. A larger study could provide better data on the importance of tracheobronchial tree measurements in ICU patients.

Streptococcus constellatus (SC) is a species of Streptococcus belonging to the Streptococcus anginosus group, along with Streptococcus anginosus and Streptococcus intermedius. Despite its commensal nature, underlying risk factors and medical conditions might lead to various anatomic site infections caused by this opportunistic pathogen. Although SC infections have mostly been associated with bacteremia, some case reports of abscess and empyema formation have been documented. Herein, we report a case of a middle-aged female patient who initially presented with radiculopathy symptoms. Subsequent neurologic imaging revealed a pyogenic abscess along paravertebral muscles, which was found to be caused by SC. The patient was successfully treated with abscess drainage from the lumbar zone and antibiotics, and the symptoms of radiculopathy have completely resolved.

Telemedicine is a rapid tool that reduces the time until treatment for patients, which is especially useful for neurosurgical trauma. The aim of our study was to evaluate the use of telemedicine in neurosurgery during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with the pre-pandemic era. We assessed the utilization of telemedicine at the Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Center Osijek in Croatia over a timespan of one year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and the first year of the pandemic, starting with the date of first lockdown in Croatia. For each time period, the total number of consults and specific clinical inquiries were recorded and adequately grouped as well as comprehensive patient characteristics. There were 336 consults in the pre-pandemic period and 504 in the pandemic period. The number of trauma-related consults during COVID-19 measures was significantly higher than the pre-pandemic era (288 and 138, respectively, p < 0.0001). Neurosurgical trauma patients requiring consults in the pandemic period were significantly older than before the pandemic (64.9 ± 18.5 and 60.6 ± 19.1, respectively, p = 0.03). Significantly, the number of admissions to our center and urgent surgeries did not significantly differ between these periods. Telemedicine is a cost-effective tool in the neurosurgical evaluation of patients, especially for trauma. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated telemedicine implementation and improved neurosurgical trauma treatments.

A mastectomy affects the psychological, social, and sexual well-being of patients. Research has confirmed that breast reconstruction is important for improving the quality of life in patients with breast cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life of patients who underwent a mastectomy followed by immediate or delayed breast reconstruction. This prospective study was conducted from January 2018 to March 2020 at the Clinical Hospital Center Osijek, using the health questionnaire SF-36. The study included 79 patients. The results of the study showed that patients who underwent a mastectomy had the lowest scores in the domain of restriction due to physical difficulties, 18.8 (6.3−31.3), in physical functioning and limitation due to emotional difficulties, 16.7 (8.3−33.3), in mental health. In immediate breast reconstruction, patients rated better physical health (p < 0.001), while patients who underwent delayed breast reconstruction rated their mental health worse (p < 0.001) as measured by the SF-36 questionnaire. Conclusion: The results of this study show that patients without breast reconstruction rated their quality of life worse than patients who underwent immediate and delayed breast reconstruction after mastectomy. There is no difference in the quality of life between patients who underwent immediate and delayed breast reconstruction after mastectomy.

Lemierre's syndrome refers to the septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein. The condition typically begins with an oropharyngeal infection and frequently involves inflammation within the wall of the vein, infected thrombus within the lumen, surrounding soft tissue inflammation, persistent bacteremia, and septic emboli. Lemierre's syndrome is a rare disease; it occurs most commonly in otherwise healthy young adults. The most common etiologic agent is Fusobacterium necrophorum. We present a case of Lemierre's syndrome in a young girl and the role of extracorporeal method of blood purification with continuous venous hemodiafiltration with the use of a highly adsorptive membrane (AN69 HeprAN), thus achieving the combined elimination of cytokines and endotoxins. The use of advanced methods, along with an antibiotic and surgical treatment, will certainly help reduce mortality in this syndrome.

Background There is lack of guidance on specific CT protocols for imaging patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia. Purpose To assess international variations in CT utilization, protocols, and radiation doses in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. Materials and Methods In this retrospective data collection study, the International Atomic Energy Agency coordinated a survey between May and July 2020 regarding CT utilization, protocols, and radiation doses from 62 health care sites in 34 countries across five continents for CT examinations performed in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. The questionnaire obtained information on local prevalence, method of diagnosis, most frequent imaging, indications for CT, and specific policies on use of CT in COVID-19 pneumonia. Collected data included general information (patient age, weight, clinical indication), CT equipment (CT make and model, year of installation, number of detector rows), scan protocols (body region, scan phases, tube current and potential), and radiation dose descriptors (CT dose index and dose length product). Descriptive statistics and generalized estimating equations were performed. Results Data from 782 patients (median age, 59 years [interquartile range, 15 years]) from 54 health care sites in 28 countries were evaluated. Less than one-half of the health care sites used CT for initial diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia and three-fourths used CT for assessing disease severity. CT dose index varied based on CT vendors (7-11 mGy; P < .001), number of detector rows (8-9 mGy; P < .001), year of CT installation (7-10 mGy; P = .006), and reconstruction techniques (7-10 mGy; P = .03). Multiphase chest CT examinations performed at 20% of sites (11 of 54) were associated with higher dose length product compared with single-phase chest CT examinations performed in 80% of sites (43 of 54) (P = .008). Conclusion CT use, scan protocols, and radiation doses in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia showed wide variation across health care sites within the same and between different countries. BACKGROUND: Percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy (PMT) is a well-established technique for treatment of acute arterial and venous thrombosis which inevitably leads to intravascular erythrocyte hemolysis, resulting in hemoglobinuria. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of 66-year-old Caucasian female with subclavian artery aneurysm causing distal embolization and hand ischemia. The aneurysm was treated with stent graft, but with a subsequent graft thrombosis 3 months later. After graft recanalisation, AngioJet PMT was performed which resulted in dialysis-requiring acute kidney injury. CONSLUSION: Only several cases of acute kidney injury following AngioJet PMT have been published in literature. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of dialysis-requiring AKI after PMT for peripheral arterial thrombosis. Until there is sufficient evidence and recommendation on preventing AKI in this setting, we believe that by being aware of the risk and by monitoring of patient, one might minimize the damage in case it occurs.

The aim of this study was to examine the quality of life and to report on the utility and QALY measures in patients before and after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG); to investigate whether the SF-12 is comparable with the SF-36 for measuring health-related quality of life of patients with CABG; and to determine the impact of individual predictors on poor quality of life assessment after rehabilitation. This prospective study was conducted between January 2017 and December 2018 at the University Hospital Center Osijek, at three time points: pre-operation, 1 month after surgery, and after rehabilitation. The study was conducted with the SF-36 and SF-12 health questionnaires on 47 participants. After rehabilitation, there was a significant improvement in all domains of quality of life. The highest score was given to the change in pain (BP); mean scores were 63.8 (95% CI 56.9 to 70.6) (p = 0.001). The lowest grade (the lowest quality) after rehabilitation was in the domain of limitations due to physical difficulties (RP); arithmetic mean was 48.5 (95% CI 41 to 55.9) (p < 0.001). Quality-adjusted life-year was 0.41 (95% CI 0.38-0.44) after the CABG. The results of this study show that patients with coronary heart disease have poor quality of life before surgery. One month after the surgery, the quality of life improved, but was still inadequate. One year after surgery, satisfactory results were obtained in almost all subscales. The SF-36, SF-12, and its components, can be used effectively in patients with CABG. Age, gender, lifestyle, and risk factors in our sample of participants are not predictors of poor quality of life assessment after rehabilitation.

Objectives of the study were to observe supraspinatus muscle thickness in patients with supraspinatus tendon pathology using ultrasound (US) and examining inter- and intra-rater reliability, and to compare muscle thickness with cross-sectional area (CSA) and occupation ratio measured by both US and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The investigation was designed as a prospective cohort study. Two groups of patients were included in the study: 43 patients with tendon rupture and 44 patients without tendon rupture as a control group. A written consent was obtained from all patients. In both groups, muscle thickness, CSA and occupation ratio were measured with US, and CSA and occupation ratio with MRI. Study results showed statistically significant between-group differences. The mean supraspinatus muscle thickness measured by US was 14.01 mm and 19.83 mm in patients with and without tendon rupture, respectively. CSA and occupation ratio measured by US and MRI also showed statistically significant between-group differences. Pearson correlation coefficient between supraspinatus thickness and occupation ratio and CSA measured by US and MRI showed strong to moderate correlation. US measurements showed moderate to strong intra- and inter-rater reliability. In conclusion, supraspinatus muscle thickness measurement by US is a reliable method for muscle atrophy evaluation and strongly correlates with other acknowledged methods.

BACKGROUND: Measuring the quality of life (QoL) of women with breast cancer is an important aspect of measuring treatment success. In Croatia, no QoL studies have been carried out with a focus on patients after mastectomy. The aim of this study was to examine QoL 1 month and 1 year after mastectomy. METHODS: This cross-sectional single-center study of quality of life was conducted in 101 patients, 50 of whom had undergone a mastectomy 1 month prior, and 51 of whom had undergone a mastectomy 1 year prior. The study was conducted from July 2015 to June 2016. The questionnaires used in the study were developed by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). The questionnaire EORTC QLQ-C30 assesses the QoL of cancer patients, and the questionnaire EORTC QLQ-BR23 is a disease-specific breast cancer module. A chi square test, Fisher's exact test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were performed in the statistical analysis using the statistical program SPSS (Inc. Released 2008. SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 17.0. Chicago: SPSS Inc.). RESULTS: Patients who had undergone a mastectomy a year earlier placed a higher value on their health state than did those who had undergone a mastectomy a month earlier. The most affected values of functional status on the EORTC QLQ-C30 scale were emotional functioning (37.5 [95% CI 33.3-61.6]) and sexual functioning (16.67 [95% CI 0-33.3]) 1 month and 1 year after mastectomy, respectively. The most affected symptoms on the EORTC QLQ-C30 scale were hair loss 66.67 [95% CI 33.3-100]) and fatigue 33.33 [95% CI 24-44]) 1 month and 1 year after mastectomy, respectively. CONCLUSION: In our study, both functional and symptom scales were more affected in women 1 month after mastectomy. QoL was considerably improved in women 1 year after the surgery compared to 1 month after mastectomy. The results of this study could contribute to the public awareness of the QoL of breast cancer patients.

- The aim was to examine whether the postprocedural change in C-reactive protein (CRP) and fibrinogen levels was associated with the extent of periprocedural arterial injury caused by endovascular treatment (EVT). The study recruited 71 patients undergoing EVT. Eighty-four patients that underwent angiography served as a control group. CRP and fibrinogen were measured at baseline, and at 8, 24 and 48 hours following the procedure. In all experimental group patients, lesion complexity, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) treated segment length, balloon inflation time and stented segment length were recorded. There was significant increase in plasma CRP and fibrinogen levels 48 hours following EVT (p<0.001). There was no significant difference in CRP and fibrinogen levels among different TASC groups. CRP levels were significantly higher in stent subgroup compared to PTA subgroup. Significant positive correlation was found between PTA treated segment length and CRP increase between 8 and 24 hours following EVT (r=0.313, p=0.02), balloon inflation time and CRP increase in the aforementioned time frame (r=0.270, p=0.03), as well as between CRP increase at 8 hours and stented segment length (r=0.535, p=0.01). This study showed that the arterial injury caused by EVT reflected on the level of inflammatory biomarkers.
