RESUMO
A 19-year-old mother had pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy. Similar eruptions were found on her newborn son. This recently recognized eruption of pregnancy, characterized by pruritic papules, papulovesicles, and urticarial plaques, has been seen previously only in mothers. The histologic findings are nonspecific and may include spongiosis, a lymphohistiocytic perivascular infiltrate, papillary edema, and occasional eosinophils. This report raises the possibility that infants may be affected.

The ninth reported case of segmental neurofibromatosis and the first in which plexiform neurofibromas have been demonstrated is presented. Questions about the genetics of this entity and the true incidence and prognosis are as yet unanswered.

A sixty year old woman was found to have a benign thymoma and pemphigus erythematosus. Her skin disease was controlled with oral and topical corticosteroids. The association between thymoma and pemphigus erythematosus is discussed, and the literature reviewed. Most previous cases have also had myasthenia gravis and skeletal muscle antibodies. This is the first case in which neither of these was present.

Familial primary cutaneous amyloidosis, a rare, autosomal dominant genodermatosis, affected 16 of 46 family members of German descent. Previous case reports involved families of Russian, Spanish, or Chinese descent. The finding of IgG, IgM, C3 in the amyloid deposits confirms recent reports of immunofluorescent dermal amyloid deposits.

Aminopyrine metabolism was assessed by the aminopyrine breath test (ABT) in 153 patients with malignant disease, of whom 75 had hepatic neoplasm and 78 had none. Radioactive carbon dioxide (14CO2) exhalation was measured two hours after oral administration of a trace dose of carbon-14 labeled aminopyrine. The ABT was correct in 62 of 75 (83%) patients with hepatic neoplasm and in 73 of 78 (94%) patients without. It was correct in 16 of 22 (73%) patients who had hepatic neoplasm without abnormal serum biochemistry. Aminopyrine metabolic clearance rate (AMCR) was 32.4 ml/min in patients with hepatic neoplasm and 103.4 +/- 18.8 ml/min in the patients without. There was a highly significant correlation between ABT and AMCR (r =.76, P less than .01). We conclude that aminopyrine metabolism is depressed in most patients with hepatic neoplasm and that the ABT affords a useful method for detecting malignant tumors of the liver.
