RESUMO

The purpose of the research were to describe eHealth literacy and identify factors affecting the eHealth literacy of early adolescents. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted in a government secondary school in the west of Turkey. The research sample consisted of 1347 adolescents in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades in the academic year 2016-2017. An adolescents' description form and the eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS) were used to collect the data. The mean score on eHEALS was 23.81 ± 6.94. Multiple regression analysis showed that being in the 11-12 year age group (ß = 0.528, p < 0.001), having a father with a high school or university level education (ß = 0.055, p = 0.038), and carrying out research in the internet on health related topics (ß = 0.118, p < 0.001) were determinant at 32% (F = 56.901, p < 0.001, R2 = 0.32) on the adolescents' eHealth literacy. The mean eHEALS score in the study demonstrated that the e-health literacy of the adolescents was rather low and inadequate, and that there were gaps in the adolescents' knowledge and skills about how and where to find quality eHealth information. Nurses are expected to provide eHealth literacy training that will help to find information on the internet and interpret and assess it, and this will develop eHealth literacy of adolescents. Integrating online health information sources into the school health education curriculum in line with developed strategies can be suggested because it is an attempt to improve the eHealth literacy of adolescents.

RESUMO

Nurses who care for dying patients are under pressure emotionally because of their beliefs and values about death as well as the emotions and reactions of the patients and their families. This study examines the emotional difficulties of nurses caring for oncology patients in Turkey. The study used a descriptive survey design. The participants were 157 nurses from three medical oncology units in Ankara. Results showed that nurses had difficulty in talking to oncology patients about end-of-life issues and found that caring for dying patients affected their personal lives. This study also showed that the length of nurses' work experience had no effect on their feelings and perceptions toward terminally ill patients. However, the nurses who had more work experience were more likely to report difficulty in talking to patients. Most of the nurses expressed feelings of inadequacy and hopelessness about pain management and treatments.

RESUMO

Using transposon mutagenesis in Bacillus subtilis PY79, three independent mutants defective in production of bacilysin were isolated. To identify the genes in these mutant loci affecting bacilysin biosynthesis, the inserted transposon and its flanking regions were cloned and sequenced from each mutant. Transposon insertions in these three mutants were found to be in the yvfI gene which encodes an unknown protein similar to GntR family transcriptional regulators. For further confirmation, deletion mutants were constructed in which nucleotides 196-314 of the yvfI gene were removed. All resulting yvfI (Delta196-314)::spc deletion mutants exhibited bacilysin-negative phenotypes, as in the case of the yvfI::Tn10::spc insertional mutants. The lacR gene, encoding a transcriptional regulator, resides immediately downstream from the yvfI gene. Therefore, an insertion mutation was created in the lacR gene to demonstrate that the bacilysin negative phenotype is actually due to the mutation in the yvfI gene and not a polar effect of yvfI mutation on the downstream gene. As expected, all resulting lacR mutant derivatives of PY79 still produced bacilysin.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To review our experience with uterine rupture in patients undergoing a trial of labor with a history of previous cesarean delivery in which labor was induced with misoprostol. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective chart review was used to select patients who underwent induction of labor with misoprostol during the period from February 1999 to June 2002. Women with a history of cesarean delivery were retrospectively compared with those without uterine scarring. RESULTS: Uterine rupture occurred in 4 of 41 patients with previous cesarean delivery who had labor induced with misoprostol. The rate of uterine rupture (9.7%) was significantly higher in patients with a previous cesarean delivery (P<0.001). No uterine rupture occurred in 50 patients without uterine scarring. Women with a history of cesarean delivery were more likely to have oxytocin augmentation than those without uterine scarring (41% versus 20%; P=0.037). CONCLUSION: Misoprostol induction of labor increases the risk of uterine rupture in women with a history of cesarean delivery.
