RESUMO

Using Bi-Digital O-Ring Test electromagnetic field resonance phenomenon between 2 identical substances, it is possible to draw on the surface of the human body several points similar to the acupuncture points of Traditional Chinese Medicine-TCM with the help of histological slides of 12 organs of the main TCM Meridians, using the method first described by Yoshiaki Omura Sc.D. M.D. To determine the relationship of the Lung Meridian of TCM and the points drawn with a histological human Lung slide by BDORT, it was mapped the upper limb in 41 healthy individuals. There were almost identical matches in all points in 26 subjects (63.4%). In 15 subjects there were no identical matches at any point (36.5%). In all cases of no identical matches of the points, the new Lu1 point is displaced in the direction of midpoint of thorax below the clavicle. On the arm there was a medially deviation in comparison to the line obtained from the TCM points, for example the new Lu9 point was located on the midpoint of the wrist.

RESUMO

Long-term depression together with long-term potentiation represent popular experimental models to study synaptic plasticity. However, analyses of the mechanisms underlying the expression of cortical long-term depression are in their infancy and have been confined to the hippocampus. Short- and long-term depression in neocortex is not well understood. Here we recorded small excitatory postsynaptic potentials intracellularly from rat visual cortex slices. The responses fluctuated between several amplitude levels suggesting a quantal nature of the synaptic transmission. Consistent changes in the quantal steps accompanied neither paired-pulse depression (50 ms interval within the pair) nor long-term depression (induced by 1 Hz, 5 min stimulation). The amplitude distributions shifted to smaller values suggesting decreases in the number of quanta released without essential changes in the postsynaptic quantal efficiency. Both the coefficient of variation of response amplitudes and the number of response failures increased; cases were encountered suggesting a very low release probability after depression. Changes in quantal content estimated from the deconvolution analysis were correlated with the magnitude of depression. The findings suggest predominantly presynaptic loci for expression of short- and long-term neocortical depressions. The likely underlying mechanism is a decrease in transmitter release probability. Long-term depression decreased the probability so strongly that some inputs became virtually silent.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the morphologic hysteroscopic criteria leading to a diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia and compare their accuracy with that of histology. METHODS: A total of 95 hysteroscopic examinations were evaluated. Of these, 37 had a histologic diagnosis of normal endometrium and the remaining 58 of simple or complex endometrial hyperplasia. We compared the morphologic hysteroscopic criteria for the two groups using Pearson's chi-squared and Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: Only the presence of endometrial glands presenting a cystic pattern at hysteroscopy gave statistically significant results (P < 0.05), with low sensitivity (15.79%), high specificity (97.29%) and a relative risk of 6.75. With a prevalence of endometrial hyperplasia of 22.97% in a population of women with metrorrhagia, the positive predictive value was 63.53% and the negative predictive value was 79.40%. CONCLUSION: Additional, prospective studies are needed to determine the real value of the diagnostic morphologic parameters under consideration.
