RESUMO

Product or brand placement, the integration of brand/products into TV programs/films, is one of the most controversial forms of promotion. Based on its embedded character, the European Union promulgated in 2010 a norm that obligates broadcasters to disclose the presence of placement. Taking the case of fast food marketing, this paper examines the effects of using disclosures and reinforcing their use during a program (only at the beginning vs. at the beginning and after a commercial break) on children at different ages (9,12 and 15) in terms of the awareness of the nature of placement, and brand effects (recall and preference). The results showed that (1) reinforcing the use of disclosures increased the awareness of placements; (2) both forms of disclosures (single and reinforced) raised brand recall and limited brand preference of the advertised brand; older children (3) increased the awareness of placements and decreased their brand preference; and also (4) enhanced the effect of disclosures on awareness and brand preference.

RESUMO

Among patients with migrainous infarction, the long-term prognosis is unclear. This study aims to estimate the long-term risk of stroke recurrence and functional outcome in patients with migrainous infarction. In our study, 15 patients with migrainous infarction were followed for up to 7.5 years (12-240 months). For each patient, clinical and imaging data were reviewed. Disability after migrainous Infarction was assessed with modified Rankin Score. Mean age was 34.8 (±â€¯11.1) years. At the end of the follow-up 80% of the patients had favorable prognosis, 47% recovered completely and no patient died or had stroke recurrence. Our series also confirmed a low frequency of the traditional risk factors and the reduction of migraine frequency after migrainous infarction. This study has clinical implications and public health relevance, since our case series confirms a low frequency, low recurrence rate, and good functional outcome for patients with migrainous infarction.

RESUMO

This paper examines the effect of unhealthy food brand placement on children across different age groups (9, 12 and 15 year-old children). Results show that both brand awareness, and the behavioral disposition (toward junk food and McDonald's) increased when children were exposed to this marketing technique (in comparison with the control group). In the case of age, older groups (12-15) performed better in brand awareness, but scored lower in behavioral disposition than the 9-year-old group. Moreover, the joint use of advertising and placement (synergy) increased the effect of these communication tactics on children. Results are discussed in terms of previous results of the studies providing evidence of the influence of promotional tools of junk food on children.

RESUMO

A clinical practice guideline was developed as a response to the increasing of elderly in Mexican population due to the epidemiological transition; this instrument allows the assessment of health conditions for people from 60 years of age and older, and it can be a tool for helping family physicians and nurses in providing care for the main health problems of this group of age. The guideline for gerontologic assessment includes six principal health priorities in older people (loss of vision, difficulty to hear, falls or problems walking, nutritional disorders, memory difficulties, and sleep disorders); additionally, another four components for assessment are revised (medication use, physical functionality, quality of life, and social support). Simple recommendations for detection, diagnosis and management of these problems in primary care settings are presented.
