PIP: Future trends in urbanization in East Germany are examined. The focus is on the impact that technological and industrial change will have on urban trends. Consideration is given to changes in area utilization and employment as well as to changes in urban spatial distribution. (SUMMARY IN ENG AND RUS)^ieng

3-Amino-5-(4-pyridinyl)-1,2-dihydro-pyrid-2-one (1) is an amphoteric compound and forms one crystalline sodium salt and two hydrochlorides. Physicochemical properties UV, NMR and MS are described. TLC has been used mainly and is the most sensitive method for estimation of 1-byproducts. Coloured byproducts, generated by hypochlorite or air oxidation during synthesis and handling in solution, are monitored by vis-spectra, diminished by sulfite addition and removed by alkaline precipitation. The purification procedure is able to produce 1 with only 0.1% of precursors or byproducts.

In this paper the determination of bromine as represented in the literature is briefly reviewed with the matrix and background effects being considered. The results obtained in determining low contents of bromine in pharmaceutical substances of light matrix (Z less than or equal to 8) by the use of a wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer VRA-20 have shown the sample thickness to influence the Br-Ka radiation. The calibration of a chloroorganic matrix is performed with a so-called substitute standard substance consisting of cellulose and ammonium chloride, which is advantageous, if standard material free of analyte is difficult to get or only small amounts of sample are available. Additional measurements have been carried out to determine chlorine also by the use of a vacuum-tight liquid cell. Detection limits of 3 ppm Br (10 ppm Cl) in a light matrix and of 60 ppm Br in a chloroorganic matrix can be obtained without analyte enrichment by the powder-compressing process. The present possibilities of measuring the F-Ka radiation in active pharmaceutic substances are discussed.

An attempt is made to forecast likely trends in urbanization in the German Democratic Republic over the next 50 years using the multi-regional approach developed at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg, Austria. "Three scenarios describe possible variants in the changes of fertility, mortality and interregional migration as demographic factors. The term 'region' is applied to 4 sizes of communities each grouped as rural communities, small towns, small medium-size towns, and large medium-size towns/large towns. The results of the simulation indicate for all three scenarios an absolute and relative decline in population of the rural communities and a continuation of the process of concentration among the population."
