RESUMO

In 10 cases of hairy cell leukaemia histological, cytological, cytochemical and in some of the cases immunocytological investigations were carried out. In addition to clinical, cytological and cytochemical findings arising suspicion of hairy cell leukaemia, in three cases the multifocal reaction of acid-phosphatase appeared to be tartarate sensitive (at the concentration of L+-tartaric acid--0,75%), indicating in accordance with findings of Burns et al. (9), that tartarate resistency of the acid-phosphatase reaction ("isoenzyme 5" Katayama és mtsai, 24) has no absolute diagnostic significance. Pathomorphological investigation of different tissues (spleen, lymph node, bone marrow, liver) has revealed the characteristic localization of the spleen infiltrates (cords of Billroth) and the formation of the so called pseudosinuses. These morphological findings may contribute to the diagnosis of hairy cell leukaemia.

RESUMO

In a retrospective study of 202 cases of multiple myeloma (MM) were studied cyto- and histomorphologically. In 62 cases only bone marrow smears, in 60 only histological preparations and in 80 both types of material were available. According to the differentiation of myeloma cells, a plasmocytic (n = 127), a mixed cellular (n = 35) and a plasmoblastic type (n = 32) could be distinguished. Besides, 8 cases with predominance of giant cells were found (giant cell MM). The comparative cytological and histological typing into the four types of MM proved to be reproducible. The medium survival time and survival curves of the described types showed a statistically significant difference. The survival times were 39.7 months with the plasmocytic type, 16.1 months with the mixed cellular type, and 9.8 months with the plasmoblastic type. The prognostic relevance of the morphological classification was supported by the frequency of extramedullary infiltrates (20% in the plasmocytic, 67% in the mixed cell, 69% in the plasmoblastic and 100% in the giant cell type).

RESUMO

The significance of morphology and the number of lymphocyte nucleoli was evaluated by electronmicroscopic sections of malignant lymphomas. It was not only the number and the size of nucleoli which characterized malignant lymphomas differing in histological respect, but above all the different morphology of the nucleoli. The prognostic significance of the nucleolus can be illustrated, if malignant lymphomas of a low grade malignancy with a preponderance of micronucleoli and a low nucleolar index are compared with a significantly higher nucleolar index and markedly increased macronucleoli. These differences are further supplemented by additional morphological properties of nucleoli in malignant lymphomas.

RESUMO

In the first year of its existence the Malignant Lymphoma Reference Centre in Hungary diagnosed 383 new cases, which may represent about half the cases occurring in this country. The distribution of the cases was as follows: Hodgkin's disease 69 (18%); non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphoma 290 (75.7%), unclassifiable 12 (3.2%), hairy cell leukaemia 4 (1%), Lennert's lymphoma 8 cases (2.1%). Some features of the distribution of malignant lymphomas are discussed.
