[Impulse activity of cortical neurons in systemic organization of behavior quanta]. / Impul'snaia aktivnost' korkovykh neironov v sistemnoi organizatsii kvantov povedeniia.

By using the time course of changes in the level of cortical neuronal freedom, the author determined the reflection of intracerebral processes of systemic behavioral quanta in the neural impulse activity during cyclic instrumental behavior of cats. A direct relationship was found between the duration of behavioral stages determining the final operant activity of the animals and the number and duration of cerebral integrative performance quanta, the number of decision-making stages, the durations of afferent and efferent synthesis stages. The study indicated that afferent synthesis predominated over efferent one.

The authors suggest that the effectiveness of the treatment for lumbosacral pain should be assessed with the help of registration in the course of treatment of irregularity of the respiration rhythm (H) upon maximal bending forward for 30 sec and the angle of this bending (alpha). H is determined by the following formula: (Formula: see text) where T1 is the duration of the i-respiratory wave, i is the ordinal number of the respiratory wave, n is the number of registered respiratory waves upon bending. The next is calculation of tenderness (A): (Formula: see text) and the efficacy of treatment (E): (Formula: see text) where A1 and A2 are parameters of tenderness before and after the treatment, respectively.

[Analysis of the significance of irregular spike activity in response to mediator action on Helix pomatia neurons]. / Analiz znacheniia neravnomernosti ritma impul'snoi aktivnosti pri deistvii mediatorov na neirony vinogradnoi ulitki.

33 acetylcholine perfusions were carried out on 14 neurones RPal of a snail, 25 serotonin perfusions on 15 neurones, and 10 dopamine perfusions on 12 neurones. Frequency of unit activity (FUA) was analysed as well as its irregularity (IUA). The latter was calculated by a new method of successive comparison of the lengths of interspike intervals which accounts more adequately for causes of lengthening of each interval in comparison to evaluation of dispersion and coefficient of variation. During the neurotransmitters' action, IUA did not depend on the background IUA and the duration of its return to the background level from the moment of the beginning of neurotransmitter action. At low neurotransmitter concentrations, FUA changed less than by 0.5 spike/s. IUA assumed any values from 8 to 68 per cent and lasted for different periods from 22 to 448 s depending on the kind of neurotransmitter. At high neurotransmitter concentrations, FUA changed more than by 1 spike/s. IUA took only high values from 33 to 80 per cent and lasted only from 18 to 62 s. The value of IUA reflects the tension of neuronal processes directed to preservation of stable rhythmical activity.

[Somaticoautonomic functions of rabbits exposed to an ultrahigh-frequency electromagnetic field at acupuncture points]. / Izuchenie somatovegetativnykh funktsii u krolikov pri deistvii élektromagnitnogo polia sverkhvysokoi chastoty na tochki akupunktury.

The action of electromagnetic field of ultrahigh frequency with power from 1 to 1000 mwt and acupuncture on the functional state of rabbits under the tooth pulp irritation conditions has been investigated. The action on the points has been established to be accompanied by decrease of the rythm breathing irregularity and motion of animals jaws. The most effectiveness during the action of the field has been registered with power 1-20 mwt that corresponds to the effectiveness of acupuncture. However during the action of the field the frequency of breathing does not change while during acupuncture it increases. This fact points out the differences of the mechanism of normalized effect of these species influence on acupuncture points. The point of view concerning the invariable information action of fields upon the points and the system of points as constantly acting communication channel between an organism and the environment is under discussion.

[Respiratory rhythm of rats under acute emotional stress]. / Issledovanie ritma dykhaniia u krys v usloviiakh ostrogo émotsional'nogo stressa.

Irregularity of the rhythm of breathing, the breathing rate, blood pressure and heart rate were studied in rats under acute emotional stress induced by non-periodic stimulation of the skin and ventromedial hypothalamus. The irregularity of the rhythm of breathing was substantially increased during stimulation of the hypothalamus up to short-term respiratory arrests in animals predisposed to emotional stress. Disturbances of the rhythm of breathing may be one of objective prognostic criteria of the animals' survival or lethality under emotional stress.

The use of microwaves for exciting biologically active points permits one to locate release electromagnetic energy in the region of the points. A 2375 field of the intensity that is sufficient for warning the tissues of the biologically active point causes the reflective changes in the somatic and vegetative indices in animals. The changes founded in the experiment are not strong and reversible.
