RESUMO

Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive food-borne pathogen causing a serious threat for public health. Here we announce the whole genome sequence (3 011 693 bp) of Listeria monocytogenes serotype 4b, isolated from ready-to-eat lentil salad in Algiers and belonging to sequence type 2, lineage I and clonal complex 2.

RESUMO

Nontyphoidal Salmonella (NTS) is one of the main causes of foodborne disease worldwide. In this report, we announce the first whole-genome sequencing of six strains of Salmonella enterica isolated from imported meat in Algeria. The genome sizes ranged from 4,601,209 to 4,958,962 bp. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes, plasmids, and virulence factors were detected.

RESUMO

Colistin resistance has emerged worldwide and is threatening the treatment efficacy of multiresistant Escherichia coli strains in humans and animals. Here, we communicate the whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of two colistin-resistant E. coli strains, M49 and M78, with genomes sizes of 4,947,168 and 5,178,716 bp, respectively, isolated from seawaters of the Algiers coast.

RESUMO

According to paleoseismological studies, the last earthquake that ruptured the Main Frontal Thrust in western Nepal occurred in 1505 AD. No evidence of large earthquakes has been documented since, giving rise to the concept of a seismic gap in the central Himalaya. Here, we report on a new record of earthquake-triggered turbidites from Lake Rara, western Nepal. Our lake-sediment record contains eight possibly moderate-to-large earthquake-triggered turbidites during the last 800 years, three of which overlap in age with previously reported Mw ≥ 7 events in western Nepal. Shaking intensity modelling, together with instrumental records, suggests that near-field earthquakes (≤15 km) should have a minimum Mw 5.6, and regional earthquakes (≤80 km) a Mw > ~ 6.5, to trigger turbidites. We present a likely scenario that western Nepal may be as seismically active as central Nepal; however, more data are needed to revaluate the seismic risk in the central Himalaya.

RESUMO

Two neonates who went into acute hypovolaemic shock due to a tight nuchal cord were successfully resuscitated. The occurrence of this life threatening complication in two low risk pregnancies emphasises the importance of having staff trained in resuscitation immediately available in the delivery unit.
