RESUMO

The present work concerns the development of a W sources assessment system in the framework of the tungsten-W environment in steady state tokamak project that aims at equipping the existing Tore Supra device with a tungsten divertor in order to test actively cooled tungsten Plasma Facing Components (PFCs) in view of preparing ITER operation. The goal is to assess W sources and D recycling with spectral, spatial, and temporal resolution adapted to the PFCs observed. The originality of the system is that all optical elements are installed in the vacuum vessel and compatible with steady state operation. Our system is optimized to measure radiance as low as 1016 Ph/(m2 s sr). A total of 240 optical fibers will be deployed to the detection systems such as the "Filterscope," developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA) and consisting of photomultiplier tubes and filters, or imaging spectrometers dedicated to Multiview analysis.

RESUMO

The detection limit for helium (He) partial pressure monitoring via the Penning discharge optical emission diagnostic, mainly used for tokamak divertor effluent gas analysis, is shown here to be possible for He concentrations down to 0.1% in predominantly deuterium effluents. This result from a dedicated laboratory study means that the technique can now be extended to intrinsically (non-injected) He produced as fusion reaction ash in deuterium-tritium experiments. The paper also examines threshold ionization mass spectroscopy as a potential backup to the optical technique, but finds that further development is needed to attain with plasma pulse-relevant response times. Both these studies are presented in the context of continuing development of plasma pulse-resolving, residual gas analysis for the upcoming JET deuterium-tritium campaign (DTE2) and for ITER.

RESUMO

With installation of the ITER-like wall in JET a major diagnostic upgrade to measure the neutral gas pressure and composition in the sub-divertor region has been completed, to characterise retention and outgassing of the new metallic first wall. The upgrade includes two new magnetically shielded systems consisting of sensitive capacitance manometers and residual gas analysers, both capable of providing data during plasma operation. These enable absolute pressure and gas composition measurements (pressure range: 10(-5)-10(-1) mbar, mass range: 1-200 amu, respectively) and have been used to characterise the neutral gas behaviour under various plasma conditions.

RESUMO

A shielded residual gas analyzer (RGA) system on Tore Supra can function during plasma operation and is set up to monitor the composition of the neutral gas in one of the pumping ducts of the toroidal pumped limited. This "diagnostic RGA" has been used in long-pulse (up to 6 min) discharges for continuous monitoring of up to 15 masses simultaneously. Comparison of the RGA-measured evolution of the H(2)/D(2) isotopic ratio in the exhaust gas to that measured by an energetic neutral particle analyzer in the plasma core provides a way to monitor the evolution of particle balance. RGA monitoring of corrective H(2) injection to maintain proper minority heating is providing a database for improved ion cyclotron resonance heating, potentially with RGA-base feedback control. In very long pulses (>4 min) absence of significant changes in the RGA-monitored, hydrocarbon particle pressures is an indication of proper operation of the actively cooled, carbon-based plasma facing components. Also H(2) could increase due to thermodesorption of overheated plasma facing components.

RESUMO

In rats with a hemodynamic disorder caused by acute myocardial ischemia, preliminary administration of beditin in a dose of 25 mg/kg fully prevents a manifold increase in the level of 45Ca2+ in the cytosol of brain cells and leads to enhanced trapping and accumulation of labeled calcium in endoplasmic reticulum. With respect to calcium binding in endoplasmic reticulum, the action of beditin substantially differs from that of verapamil.

RESUMO

Niaspan, when added to a stable dose of a statin in 66 subjects, was found to be safe and highly effective in improving lipid parameters. Subgroup analyses demonstrated its effectiveness in lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in persons not at the National Cholesterol and Education Program low-density lipoprotein cholesterol target and in raising high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in persons with levels < 40 mg/dl.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the incidence and causes of serious complications after laparoscopic hernioplasty. Complications observed after laparoscopic hernia repair performed by a single surgeon specializing in the technique were analyzed. METHOD: A retrospective review of patients who underwent a laparoscopic hernioplasty, either transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) or totally extraperitoneal (TEP), was performed by the author between July 1991 and August 1997. RESULTS: In 1,087 patients, 1,423 hernias had been repaired by the TAPP or TEP approach. These were followed 1 month to 6 years. In patients followed at least 6 months with a median follow-up of 42 months, six repairs recurred (0.4%), and all underwent a remedial operation. Significant complications occurred in 29 patients (2.7%). Three of four intraoperative complications were in the surgeon's first 100 cases and consisted of bleeding from a trocar and injury to the bowel. Significant postoperation complications included pain in 12 patients: re-exploration required in 4, trocar hernia in 6, small bowel obstruction in 1, and hydrocele requiring surgery in 6. The incidence of complications in the first 3 years was 5.6% compared with 0.5% in the last 3 years, and 90% of complications developed in the first 50% of patients. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that the incidence of significant complications after laparoscopic hernioplasty could be substantially reduced by experience to less than 1%. The risk of complications after a totally extraperitoneal approach may be less than that of a transabdominal approach, but a randomized study is needed to confirm this supposition.

RESUMO

Beditine, 2-(2-amino-4-thiazolyl)-1,4-benzodioxane hydrochloride is a new substance which reduced platelet activation and degranulation, prevented aggregation and superoxide generation by activated human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) and inhibited the activation of arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase. Beditine may, therefore, be a useful agent in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

RESUMO

Results are reported of a study of 46 patients with systemic diseases: connective tissue, inflammatory granulomatous processes, lymphoid tissue lesions and blood diseases treated in the clinic of infections diseases. Difficulties and errors in their clinical diagnosis, and their causes are shown. It is emphasized that these patients are hospitalized in infections clinics and that the incidence of systemic diseases rises in conditions of radiation environment.
