RESUMO

Analysis of feeding habits was performed for early life stages of Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii and Brachyplatystoma filamentosum in the Madeira River, Brazil. Stomach contents of B. rousseauxii and B. filamentosum were identified and analysed to provide the percentage of frequency of occurrence (%FO) and area (%A) and the alimentary index (IAi). The order Diptera represented the most important item consumed by both species. This is the first analyses of the trophic ecology of these ecologically and economically important species of the Amazonian region in early life stages.

INTRODUCTION: the superior longitudinal sinus thrombosis is a disease difficult to detect because of its different causes and because of the polymorphism of its neurological manifestations; It is also common in females related to estrogen stimuli and other hormonal factors, but unlikely in younger than 40 years. PATIENT: a patient younger than 40 years after having two episodes of ischemic strokes, cognitive and functional status is assessed one year after the injury using the neuropsi battery attention and memory and the mayo-portland adaptability inventory; Cognitive processes affected at a slight level of classification were attention and concentration, executive functioning; In the functional status reported by the spouse suggests involvement of clinical symptoms such as irritability, anger, aggression, headaches, fatigue and reactions to minor symptoms and inadequate interaction, these symptoms were not reported by the patient suggesting possible anosognosia in her process of adaptability CONCLUSIÓN: After a process of brain injury due to thrombotic involvement, the cognitive and functional sequelae remain after spontaneous recovery, suggesting the import of rehabilitation processes.

RESUMO

This is the first report by the COVID19 Observatory - Group: Contagion Networks analyzing mortality data from the city of São Paulo. In this report, we integrated mortality data for the city of São Paulo between 04/02/2020 and 04/28/2020, with information on the flow of victims between hospitals and cemeteries/crematoriums. We included in our analyzes both confirmed and suspected deaths from COVID-19. The main objectives of this report were: (1) to describe the structure of the flow of victims between locations and (2) to suggest changes in the current flow based on geographical distances in order to avoid a potential overload of the mortuary system. We suggest that the city of São Paulo should plan for a potential overload of the mortuary system (that is, the number of burials), based on the presented results. Thus, our results reinforce the need to adopt specific planning for the management of the extraordinary number of victims of this pandemic. Our predictions are based on the structural analysis of the COVID-19 victim flow network, which shows several hotspots with high vulnerability to system overload. These hotspots concentrate with either the greatest number of deaths (hospital) or of burials (cemetery or crematorium), and therefore have high potential to become overwhelmed by receiving many bodies due to the increase in victims of the pandemic. We recommend special attention to be given to localities on the east side of São Paulo, which has both the most vulnerable hospitals in the city, and also houses cemeteries and crematoriums that have a central role in the network and / or are vulnerable. Based on our optimization analysis, we suggest logistical changes in the current flow of bodies from hospitals to cemeteries/crematoriums so as not to overload the funeral system and minimize transportation costs. In this sense, our results are potentially useful for improving the operational planning of the Municipality of São Paulo, ratifying or rectifying actions underway at the municipal level.

Abstract:Some species of marine fish have complex relationships with coastal ecosystems during their reproductive periods, as the needle fish Tylosurus pacificus that forms spawning aggregations in gravel beaches in Utría Park. We described fishery and some aspects of the reproductive biology of T. pacificus and proposed some strategies to mitigate the impact of this event and associated ecological processes. Fisheries monitoring were conducted between April 2008 and February 2009 in the Utría National Park, Colombian Pacific. Catch volumes, length structure, sex ratio and fecundity (n= 84) were analyzed. The total length ranged among 60.5 and 104 cm with a mean and standard deviation of 85.35 ± 9.09 cm. The average fertility of oocytes per gonad was 189 685.56, with a mode of 8 mm diameter and an asynchronous gonadal development. This species spawns collectively on the beach when the tide reaches the highest level during full and new moon, usually in the evening. Fishermen of a near town take advantage of the spawning aggregation of this species. The reproduction study of T. pacificus and ecological processes associated with their spawning, should be expanded to give adequate use, and ensure the sustainability of their fishery over the long term. RESUMO

The genus Metarhizium consists of a diverse group of asexual entomopathogenic fungi, which have a wide geographical distribution. The Chilean National Agricultural Research Institute (Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias - INIA, Quilamapu Chile) has collected about 350 isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae from central and southern Chile. These isolates have been partially characterized using morphological traits such as conidia size and shape, colony color, growth pattern and the efficiency of the isolates in controlling specific pests. However, further characterization with molecular markers could detect differences in DNA which could help to better understand the genetic diversity and structure of Chilean populations of this fungus. We analyzed approximately 10 percent of the INIA collection (39 isolates selected at random) collected from different geographical origins using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) method, simple sequences repeat (SSR or microsatellites) analysis and the PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) assay of internal transcribed spacer (ITS)-rDNA sequences. The RAPD data revealed high genetic diversity in this fungus and an average of 41 percent of similarity while SSR analysis detected 45.2 percent similarity and the ITS markers 70.2 percent similarity. For the three molecular markers, this diversity was not associated with the geographical origin of these isolates.
