BACKGROUND: Groin hernioplasty is most intervention performed in the worldwide. The present study aimed to evaluate a combination between ultralight mesh and fibrin human sealant in the laparoscopic treatment of inguinal hernia. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included consecutive patients who underwent laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal hernioplasty (TAPP) from 1st of January 2015 to 31st of December 2016. Demographics, surgical data and postoperative outcomes were entered in an anonymized prospective database. Prospective longterm follow-up carried out in all patients. RESULTS: One hundred eighty-four patients with a median age 57.5 (range 19-84) and median BMI (Body Mass Index) of 28.5 (range 18.5-31.5) were included. A median follow-up of 25 months (median 13-35) was carried out. Five recurrences (1.5%) and two cases of missed lipoma were observed and operated. Chronic pain (CP) was observed in eleven (9%) patients but in 9 patients it decreased spontaneously. CONCLUSIONS: Combination of ultralight mesh and Evicel® in TAPP operation is a safe solution for the treatment of groin hernia. Recurrences and chronic pain are similar to other combination of fibrin sealant and meshes. Moreover action of Evicel® may provide to improve the hemostasis and consequently hematoma of the cord.

A set of 146 single sequence repeats (SSRs) and 14 amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) primer combinations were used to enrich a previously developed linkage map obtained from a (Prunus persicaxP. ferganensis)xP. persica BC(1) progeny. Forty-one SSR primer pairs gave polymorphic patterns detecting 42 loci. The restriction/selective primer AFLP combinations produced a total of 79 segregating fragments. The resulting map is composed of 216 loci covering 665 cM with an average distance of 3.1 cM. Novel regions were covered by the newly mapped loci for a total of 159 cM. Eight linkage groups were assembled instead of the earlier 10 as two small groups (G1a and G8b), previously independent, were joined to their respective major groups (G1b and G8a). Several gaps were also reduced resulting in an improved saturation of the map. Twelve gaps >or=10 cm are still present. A comparative analysis against the Prunus reference map (71 anchor loci) pointed out an almost complete synteny and colinearity. Six loci were not syntenic and only two were not colinear. Genetic distances were significantly longer in our map than in the reference one.

Based on several experiences of microbial release using genetically modified Rhizobium leguminosarum, we have highlighted a number of aspects related to the suitability of introduced markers such as resistance to mercury and b-galactosidase activity, the latter serving the function of high-expression level reporter gene obtained by the introduction of a synthetic promoter conferring strong inducible expression in Gram-negative bacteria. In vitro expression and in vivo performances of the chosen examples have been followed in model strains comparing gene dosage and expression levels. The technical possibility of unambiguously monitoring the marked GMM has been evaluated in medium- and long-term experiments carried out both in microcosms and soil, also including the presence of the plant symbiotic host. Marker stability, regardless the nature of the gene, was shown to be dependent on the location of the genetic modification and on its degree of gene expression regulation. Reporter strength was found to be an advantage allowing the distinction of marker-bearing bacteria while negatively affecting their genetic stability. Plasmid-borne regulated reporters were found to be stable up to the stages of rhizosphere colonization, but were more critically selected against upon symbiotic host invasion.
