RESUMO

Aggressive ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous disorder characterized by its aggressive behavior, which complicates its management. In this article, we present a case involving the recurrence of this condition in the maxillary region, with orbital and dental involvement, in a patient who had previously undergone surgery and reconstruction with a microvascularized free fibula flap. A multidisciplinary approach involving maxillofacial surgery and dentistry was employed to deliver a customized and entirely satisfactory solution for the patient. The use of 3D surgery was integral to our approach, encompassing pre-surgical digital planning and the transfer of this planning to the operating room via navigation software. Customized surgical cutting guides facilitated precise resection, while a personalized polyether ether ketone (PEEK) prosthesis was utilized for reconstruction of the malar and infraorbital region. Pre-prosthetic computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) surgery, along with dental rehabilitation using transepithelial abutments and dental prostheses on a titanium framework, were employed for dental restoration. During the postoperative period, mobility in the reconstructed maxilla was observed due to the loss of support from the initial reconstruction plate. This was addressed by replacing the plate with a custom-made titanium plate, designed to accommodate the location of the transepithelial abutments and prevent disruption of the dental rehabilitation. This case demonstrates the potential of new technologies when applied within the collaborative framework of maxillofacial surgeons and dentists, enabling effective and definitive solutions in complex reconstruction cases. Although the presence of female contact sex pheromones in P. vannamei has been hypothesized, to date its existence has not been proven. To gather more evidence of their existence, cuticular liposoluble extracts were obtained from the following samples of adult females to be used as the experimental treatments: (1) ventral exoskeleton of immature female (VI), (2) dorsolateral exoskeleton of immature female (DI), (3) ventral exoskeleton of mature female (VM), and (4) dorsolateral exoskeleton of mature female (DM). Polyvinyl chloride tubes (artificial females; AF) were coated with each extract and the behavior displayed by sexually mature males in contact with the AF was recorded and classified as follows: 0 = no response; 1 = contact; 2 = pushing; and 3 = prolonged contact (≥10 s). To test the hypothesis that the extracts collected from the ventral portion of the abdomen exoskeleton have a higher effect on the behavior of males than the extracts collected from the dorsolateral portion of the abdomen exoskeleton, the experiment was divided into two bioassays: Bioassay I (VI vs. DI) and Bioassay II (VM vs. DM). In each bioassay, all experimental treatments were significantly different (p > 0.05) from the CTL group (AF coated with hexane). Notably, the pushing behavior was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the VI treatment compared to the CTL and DI treatment. These results provide evidence of the existence of contact female sex pheromones with sexual recognition function located primarily in the ventral portion of the abdomen exoskeleton of P. vannamei.

Introduction: This report investigates late-stage internal derangement (ID) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with the aim of establishing a more effective and personalized treatment protocol to improve patients' quality of life (QoL). Material and methods: A consensus was reached among maxillofacial surgeons specializing in LSID, based on a literature research and collective expert experience following the Delphi method. Consensus was considered to be achieved when a response received at least 80% of votes. Results: Four expert groups were established, respectively, focusing on diagnosis, minimally invasive surgery (MIS), open surgery and joint replacement. A comprehensive approach to late-stage ID of the TMJ requires a consensus report. This underscores the need for a personalized treatment plan, considering the variability in clinical presentations and progression of this pathology. Our recommendations aim to optimize clinical outcomes and enhance patient QoL.

PURPOSE: To describe the characteristics of and the associations between health-related quality of life, pain, craniomandibular function, and psychosocial factors related to pain and fear of movement in patients with head and neck cancer. METHODS: Seventy-eight patients diagnosed with HNC were recruited. Measurements of the maximum mouth opening range and pressure pain thresholds on the masseter muscle and the distal phalanx of the thumb were conducted, as well as a battery of self-report questionnaires were administrated, including the QoL Questionnaire (EORT QLQ-H&N35), Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), the Spanish translation of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia for Temporomandibular Disorders (TSK-TMD), and the short version of the Craniofacial Pain and Disability Inventory (CF-PDI-11). RESULTS: The study sample (66.7% men, mean age 60.12 [11.95] years) experienced a moderate impact on their QoL levels (57.68 [18.25] EORT QLQ-H&N35) and high kinesiophobia values (20.49 [9.11] TSK-TMD). Pain was present in 41% of the patients, but only 3.8% reported severe pain. 26.4% had a restricted mouth opening range, and 34.62% showed significant catastrophism levels. There were strong positive correlations between EORT QLQ-H&N35 and CF-PDI-11 (r = 0.81), between NRS and CF-PDI-11 (r = 0.74), and between PCS and CF-PDI-11 (r = 0.66). CONCLUSION: Patients with HNC experience negative effects in their QoL, related to their impairment in craniomandibular function. Fear of movement, pain intensity, and catastrophism are associated with poorer functionality; relationships that should be considered when attempting to improve health care.

RESUMO

Madelung's disease is characterized by the presence of multiple symmetric and nonencapsulated facial, neck, and upper trunk lipomas. Depending on the location and size of lipomas, there may be concerns for difficult airway management and cardiovascular collapse. We present the anesthetic management case of a patient with cervical and mediastinal lipomas who underwent elective cervical lipoma resection.

The advent of 3D surgical technology has revolutionized personalized medicine, enabling the development of tailored solutions for individual patients. This technical note presents the application of 3D technology in designing a customized chin guard using flexible 3D resin. The process involves surface scanning the lower facial region of a polytraumatized patient with a structured-light surface 3D scanner, generating a detailed point cloud. The acquired data undergoes meticulous processing within an specific professional software, including erasing unwanted portions, aligning frames, and mesh consolidation. Subsequently, the mesh is exported as an STL file and further refined using a 3D mesh management software. A customized chin support is designed for the specific patient's needs, exported in STL format, and 3D printed using a stereolithography (SLA) printer with Flexible 80A resin. Post-printing procedures involve washing and curing to ensure biocompatibility and optimal mechanical characteristics. The resultant customized chin guard, attached to elastic support straps, offers a precise fit to the patient's anatomy, enhancing comfort and allowing for extended wear. This innovative approach addresses the challenge of surgical intraoral wound dehiscence in a polytraumatized patient, showcasing the potential of 3D technology in personalized medical solutions for complex cases. INTRODUCTION: Information about pan-genotypic treatments for hepatitis in Portugal is scarce. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of glecaprevir plus pibrentasvir (GLE/PIB) treatment for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in real-world clinical practice. METHODS: An observational prospective study was implemented in six hospitals with 121 adult HCV patients who initiated treatment with GLE/PIB between October 2018 and April 2019, according to clinical practice. Eligible patients had confirmed HCV infection genotype (GT) 1 to 6 and were either treatment-naïve or had experience with interferon-, ribavirin- or sofosbuvir-based regimens, with or without compensated cirrhosis. Baseline sociodemographic and safety data are described for the total population (N = 115). Effectiveness [sustained virologic response 12 weeks after treatment (SVR12)] and patient-reported outcomes are presented for the core population with sufficient follow-up data (n = 97). RESULTS: Most patients were male (83.5%), aged < 65 years (94.8%), with current or former alcohol consumption (77.3%), illicit drug use (72.6%), and HCV acquisition through intravenous drug use (62.0%). HIV co-infection occurred in 22.6% of patients. The prevalence of each GT was: GT1 51.3%, GT2 1.7%, GT3 30.4%, GT4 16.5%, and GT5.6 0%. Most patients were non-cirrhotic (80.9%) and treatment-naïve (93.8%). The SVR12 rates were 97.9% (95% CI: 92.8 - 99.4), and > 95% across cirrhosis status, GT, illicit drug use, alcohol consumption, and HCV treatment experience. The adverse event rate was 2.6%, and no patient discontinued treatment due to adverse events related to GLE/PIB. CONCLUSION: Consistent with other real-world studies and clinical trials, treatment with GLE/PIB showed high effectiveness and tolerability overall and in difficult-to-treat subgroups (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03303599).

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most complex joints in the human anatomy. In advanced degenerative stages, conservative or minimally invasive surgical therapies have failed to restore joint function, and joint replacement with prostheses has been required. Stock prostheses, compared to custom-made prostheses, are much less expensive and require less pre-operative preparation time. Four patients followed for years for temporomandibular dysfunction and previously operated on by arthroscopy or open joint surgery that have been reconstructed with stock TMJ prostheses (STMJP) through virtual surgical planning (VSP) and an STL model with surgical and positioning guides were included. The median follow-up was 15 months; the median number of previous TMJ surgeries was 2. The mean preoperative MIO was 24.6 mm and at longest follow-up was 36.4 mm. The median preoperative TMJ pain score was 8, and the median postoperative TMJ pain was 3. All patients have improved their mandibular function with a clear improvement of their initial situation. In conclusion, we believe that stock TMJ prostheses with virtual surgical planning and surgical guides are a good alternative for TMJ reconstruction at the present time. Nonetheless, prospective and randomized trials are required with long-term follow up to assess their performance and safety.

CONTEXT: Current devices to assess strength performance in handball may not be sufficiently sports-specific and reliable methods. Functional electromechanical dynamometry is a new technology that allows the development of accurate strength tests in athletes. PURPOSE: To determine the absolute and relative reliability and to compare the reliability of the right and left side, and mean and peak force of 3 specific strength tests in handball players with a functional electromechanical dynamometer: unilateral pullover, standing lift, and step forward. METHODS: Fourteen male handball players of the first Spanish division (28.79 [4.81] y; 10.38 [4.63] y of professional experience) performed a repeated-measurement design. Three testing sessions were performed (one per week). The first measurement consisted of 4 isometric tests (right and left unilateral pullover, and right and left standing lift) to obtain isometric peak force, and in the second and third sessions, 6 incremental tests until failure (right and left unilateral pullover, and right and left standing lift, right and left step forward) were performed. RESULTS: The tests provided high reliability or acceptable reliability for mean and peak strength of unilateral pullover, standing lift and step forward (intraclass correlation coefficient = .83-.97; coefficient of variation = 3.90-11.57). Effect side was negligible in any of the parameters, except for a small effect side in the left peak force for unilateral pullover and a small effect side on the left side for a step forward. Significant differences in reliability (coefficient of variation ratio > 1.15) were found between the right and left sides and peak and mean force in all exercises except peak force in unilateral pullover and step forward. CONCLUSION: These results confirm that the tests could be applied to assess physical performance in handball at the same time as regular gym training. Moreover, this is an excellent opportunity to individualize the player's weekly load.

Introducción: La COVID-19 provocó cambios laborales e influyó en el comportamiento de los docentes universitarios. Objetivo: Describir el bienestar y la salud ocupacional de profesores universitarios en la formación investigativa mediante el teletrabajo. Métodos: Se realizó un análisis sistemático mediante la metodología PRISMA que incluyó todo el año 2022 y los primeros meses del 2023. Con los artículos incluidos se aplicó la herramienta de búsqueda bibliográfica en línea Litmaps. Asimismo, se empleó un cuestionario y posteriormente la escala de Likert. El instrumento se validó con el coeficiente alfa de Cronbach y se consideró la prueba t de una muestra para probar como hipótesis descriptiva si el bienestar y la salud ocupacional desde la formación investigativa en docentes universitarios mediante el teletrabajo eran satisfactorios. Resultados: En el estudio, 41,2 % de los artículos de revisión e investigación seleccionados con la metodología PRISMA correspondieron al año 2022; sin embargo, el 50,0 % de los artículos semillas fueron del 2023, donde su análisis mapa indicó que no hubo citas de correspondencias. En cuanto al resultado de la valoración con la escala de Likert y luego con la prueba de hipótesis, se obtuvo insatisfacción en los profesores respecto a la formación investigativa mediante el teletrabajo. Conclusiones: Existió insatisfacción respecto al bienestar y la salud ocupacional para la formación investigativa desde el teletrabajo porque los docentes universitarios consideraban que las condiciones laborales no fueron favorables.


Introduction: COVID-19 caused job changes and influenced the behavior of university professors. Objective: To describe well-being and occupational health in research training of university professors through teleworking. Methods: A systematic analysis was carried out using the PRISMA methodology that included the entire year 2022 and the first months of 2023. The online bibliographic search tool Litmaps was applied to the included articles. Likewise, a questionnaire was used and subsequently the Likert scale. The instrument was validated with Cronbach's alpha coefficient and the one-sample T-test was considered as a descriptive hypothesis whether well-being and occupational health from research training in university professors through teleworking were satisfactory. Results: In the study, 41.2% of the review and research articles selected with the PRISMA methodology corresponded to the year 2022; however, 50.0% of the seed articles were from 2023, where their map analysis indicated that there were no citations of correspondences. Regarding the result of the assessment with the Likert scale and then with the hypothesis test, dissatisfaction was obtained among professors concerning research training through teleworking. Conclusions: There was dissatisfaction regarding well-being and occupational health for research training through teleworking because university professors considered that working conditions were not favorable.

Advances in 3D printing technology have the potential to significantly improve the workflow of maxillofacial surgical planning. In-house fabricated custom positioning and cutting guides allow for intraoperative reproduction of pre-planned osteotomy cuts, which can result in greater surgical accuracy and patient safety while maintaining an acceptable cost-effectiveness ratio. The design and creation of the customized surgical guides is performed in our hospital fab lab, which allows time savings, from an average of 10 days to just 24 hours, and a cost reduction of more than 90%. The process begins with the import of the pre-surgical facial CT scan into 3D software that allows to perform the surgical cuts virtually and the manipulation of the segments. Once the virtual planning of the surgery has been performed, the next step is the creation of the cutting and positioning guides. The final step is the printing of the guides in surgical resin and their sterilization. In addition, post-surgical models can be 3D printed to pre-mold the plates on them, which saves surgical time. The mentoplasty surgery is a simple example of how 3D surgery can be applied to maxillofacial surgery in an efficient way obtaining all the advantages of customized surgery with a limited investment in time and resources. INTRODUCTION: In low-to-middle-income countries (LMIC), the orthogeriatric model of care is still in its early stages of development. This study describes the initial results of the first online fragility hip fracture database to be setup in the Philippines using a modified minimum common dataset to generate outcomes data based on current hospital practices. METHODS: A multicentre prospective cohort study among 12 Philippine hospitals was conducted from June 2020 to February 2021. Thirty-day mortality, morbidity and mobility were measured. Significant factors associated with mortality were determined. RESULTS: 158 elderly patients with fragility hip fractures were included in the study. Nine patients (5.7%) were confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19 infection. Median time of injury to admission was at least 3 days (IQR: 1.0-13.7). Overall, 80% of patients underwent surgical intervention with a median time from admission to surgery of at least 5 days (IQR: 2.5-13.6). Thirty-day mortality and morbidity rates for acute fragility fractures were 3.7%. Factors significantly associated with early mortality were poor prefracture mobility, COVID-19 infection, radiograph of the abnormal chest and conservative treatment. Non-surgical patients had no functional mobility or were wheelchair users and had a significantly higher morbidity rate than surgically treated patients (13.6% vs 1.8%; p=0.031). CONCLUSION: Despite treatment delays unique to an LMIC, short-term outcomes remain favourable for non-COVID-19 fragility hip fracture patients treated with surgery. Prompt admission and multidisciplinary care for elderly hip fracture patients while maintaining protective measures for COVID-19 infection control are recommended. The quality of data collected illustrates how this online database can provide a framework for a sustainable audit or registry as well as provide a platform for the introduction of orthogeriatric concepts at a multiregional scale.

BACKGROUND: The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC), in its 8th edition, introduces modifications to the previous TNM classification, incorporating tumour depth of invasion (DOI). The aim of this research is to analyse the prognosis (in terms of disease-free survival and overall survival) of clinical early stage (I and II) squamous cell carcinomas of the oral tongue according to the DOI levels established by the AJCC in its latest TNM classification to assess changes to the T category and global staging system and to evaluate the association between DOI and other histological risk factors. METHODS: A retrospective longitudinal observational study of a series of cases was designed. All patients were treated with upfront surgery at our institution between 2010 and 2019. The variables of interest were defined and classified into four groups: demographic, clinical, histological and evolutive control. Univariate and multivariate analyses were carried out and survival functions were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Statistical significance was established for p values below 0.05. RESULTS: Sixty-one patients were included. The average follow-up time was 47.42 months. Fifteen patients presented a loco-regional relapse (24.59%) and five developed distant disease (8.19%). Twelve patients died (19.67%). Statistically significant differences were observed, with respect to disease-free survival (p = 0.043), but not with respect to overall survival (p = 0.139). A total of 49.1% of the sample upstaged their T category and 29.5% underwent modifications of their global stage. The analysis of the relationship between DOI with other histological variables showed a significant association with the presence of pathological cervical nodes (p = 0.012), perineural invasion (p = 0.004) and tumour differentiation grade (p = 0.034). Multivariate analysis showed association between depth of invasion and perineural invasion. CONCLUSIONS: Depth of invasion is a histological risk factor in early clinical stages of oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Depth of invasion impacts negatively on patient prognosis, is capable per se of modifying the T category and the global tumour staging, and is associated with the presence of cervical metastatic disease, perineural invasion and tumoural differentiation grade.

Within the United States (U.S.), the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted critical inequalities affecting undocumented communities and resulting in particularly heightened stress for members of these communities. In addition to the stress associated to COVID-19, immigrants in the U.S. were more than ever subjected to a hostile anti-immigrant climate under Trump's administration. Given this compounded stress, the impact of the pandemic on mental health is likely to be disproportionately experienced by undocumented immigrants. In response, a group of psychologists partnered with a leading immigrant rights advocacy organization and formed a reciprocal collaboration to support undocumented communities. A major focus of the collaboration is to foster learning, supporting members of the immigrant community to contribute to their own well-being and others in the community. Accordingly, the collaborative developed and delivered a web-based mental health education session to the immigrant community and to practitioners serving this population. The session presented the use of healing circles as a strength-based approach to building resilience and also sought feedback regarding specific features of healing circles that can enhance their effectiveness in managing distress. Survey data and qualitative findings from this study show that those who participated in the web-based program perceived the session as validating and informative. Findings also underscored the need for creating safe spaces for community members to be vulnerable about their lived experiences while promoting ownership of their narratives. We discuss practical implications pertaining to the development and facilitation of social support groups for immigrants led by non-specialist community members trained for this role.


Dentro de los Estados Unidos (EE. UU.), la pandemia de COVID-19 acentuó desigualdades críticas que afectan a las comunidades indocumentadas, provocando un nivel de estrés particularmente alto entre los miembros de estas comunidades. Además del estrés asociado con el COVID-19, los inmigrantes en los EE. UU. estuvieron más que nunca sujetos a un clima antiinmigrante y hostil bajo la administración de Trump. Dado este estrés agravado, es probable que los inmigrantes indocumentados experimenten el impacto de la pandemia en su salud mental de manera desproporcionada. En respuesta, un grupo de psicólogos se unió a una organización líder en defensa de los derechos de los inmigrantes y formó una colaboración recíproca para apoyar a las comunidades indocumentadas. Un enfoque central de esta colaboración ha sido fomentar el aprendizaje, apoyando así a los miembros de la comunidad inmigrante para que contribuyan a su propio bienestar y al de los demás en la comunidad. Por consiguiente y a través de esta colaboración, se desarrolló y presentó una sesión de educación en línea sobre salud mental a la comunidad de inmigrantes, así como a los profesionales que sirven a esta comunidad. La sesión presentó el uso de círculos curativos como una estrategia basada en las capacidades para desarrollar la resiliencia y buscó también obtener retroalimentación sobre características específicas de estos círculos que puedan aumentar su efectividad en el manejo de la angustia. Los hallazgos de la encuesta y cualitativos de este estudio muestran que los participantes percibieron la sesión como validante e informativa. Los hallazgos también destacaron la necesidad de crear espacios seguros para que los miembros de la comunidad puedan ser vulnerables sobre sus experiencias vividas mientras se promueve la propiedad de sus narrativas. Discutimos las implicaciones prácticas relacionadas al desarrollo y la facilitación de grupos de apoyo social para inmigrantes dirigidos por miembros de la comunidad capacitados para asumir dicho rol.

Introduction: Mitomycin C (MMC) is a common chemotherapeutic agent used to treat a variety of solid tumors. Cutaneous adverse events are rare, but MMC is a known vesicant reported to cause tissue necrosis and sloughing, erythema, and ulceration if incorrectly infused into the subcutaneous tissue. Definitive treatment of extravasation injuries due to MMC depends on the severity of the cutaneous manifestation, which includes stopping the infusion, removing the catheter, or possible debridement. Case Presentation: We present the case of a 70-year-old female with extensive soft-tissue injury secondary to extravasation of MMC that required hospital admission and surgical intervention to remove the implantable venous access device. Conclusion: Extravasation injuries caused by vesicant drugs, such as MMC, often present as local skin irritation and inflammation. MMC extravasation may present a wide range of skin and soft tissue manifestations, ranging from erythema to ulcerations to necrosis. This rare but potentially detrimental complication of chemotherapy infusions should be recognized in cancer patients.

Background: Oral cancer is the 11th most common type of cancer in the world, with established major risk factors as tobacco and alcohol, and recently included high-risk human papillomavirus types 16 and 18. HPV types 16 and 18 are the etiologic agents of cervical cancers and a proportion of oropharyngeal cancers. However, the picture of HPV and the clinical implications of oral cancers are not clear with most reports combining oral cancer data with head and neck cancers. It has been confirmed as a favorable prognostic factor in oropharyngeal cancer. However, the prognostic value of HPV in oral squamous cell carcinoma is still unclear. Material and Methods: The main objective of this article is to present the evidence encountered following a bibliographical review of recent publications specifically related to oral cancer and its differences from oropharyngeal cancer. The secondary goals are to present the findings of a five-year retrospective observational study of the prevalence of HPV infection in oral cancer patients treated by the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at La Paz University Hospital (Madrid, Spain), and finally, we to evaluate and compare our country's HPV prevention program in comparison to other European countries. Results: According to the review of the literature, HPV positive oral squamous cell carcinoma is associated with significantly decreased overall survival and distant control. Bibliographic review suggest HPV infection can be used as a negative prognostic factor in oral squamous cell carcinoma. Conclusions: As regards diagnostic testing for HPV, it should be extended to as many cases of oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma as possible, especially in those with risk factors. The current vaccination program in Spain does not have adequate coverage and is significantly under the level of other European Union countries; it should be expanded and catch-up strategies should be included. RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many industries, empowering some sectors and causing many others to disappear. The education sector is not exempt from major changes; in some countries or cities, classes were taught 100% online for at least 1 year. However, some university careers need laboratory practices to complement learning, especially in engineering areas, and having only theoretical lessons online could affect their knowledge. For this reason, in this work, a mixed reality system called mixed reality for education (MRE) was developed to help students develop laboratory practices to complement online classes. An experiment was carried out with 30 students; 10 students did not use MRE, 10 used MRE, and 10 more used MRE with teacher feedback. With this, one can see the advantages of mixed reality in the education sector. The results show that using MRE helps to improve knowledge in engineering subjects; the students obtained qualifications with grades 10% to 20% better than those who did not use it. Above all, the results show the importance of feedback when using virtual reality systems.

Gold-metallic nanofibrils were prepared from three different iso-apoferritin (APO) proteins with different Light/Heavy (L/H) subunit ratios (from 0% up to 100% L-subunits). We show that APO protein fibrils have the ability to in situ nucleate and grow gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) simultaneously assembled on opposite strands of the fibrils, forming hybrid inorganic-organic metallic nanowires. The AuNPs are arranged following the pitch of the helical APO protein fiber. The mean size of the AuNPs was similar in the three different APO protein fibrils studied in this work. The AuNPs retained their optical properties in these hybrid systems. Conductivity measurements showed ohmic behavior like that of a continuous metallic structure.

The aim of this study was to determine if specific physical tests are sufficiently discriminant to differentiate players of similar anthropometric characteristics, but of different playing levels. Physical tests were conducted analyzing specific strength, throwing velocity, and running speed tests. Thirty-six male junior handball players (n = 36; age 19.7 ± 1.8 years; 185.6 ± 6.9 cm; 83.1 ± 10.3 kg; 10.6 ± 3.2 years of experience) from two different levels of competition participated in the study: NT = 18 were world top-level elite players, belonging to the Spanish junior men's national team (National Team = NT) and A = 18 players of the same age and anthropometric conditions, who were selected from Spanish third league men's teams (Amateur = A). The results showed significant differences (p < 0.05) between the two groups in all physical tests, except for two-step-test velocity and shoulder internal rotation. We conclude that a battery combining the Specific Performance Test and the Force Development Standing Test is useful in identifying talent and differentiating between elite and sub-elite players. The current findings suggest that running speed tests and throwing tests are essential in selecting players, regardless of age, sex, or type of competition. The results shed light on the factors that differentiate players of different levels and can help coaches in selecting players.

RESUMO

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and follicular lymphoma (FL) are the most common forms of aggressive and indolent lymphoma, respectively. The majority of patients are cured by standard R-CHOP immunochemotherapy, but 30%-40% of DLBCL and 20% of FL patients relapse or are refractory (R/R). DLBCL and FL are phenotypically and genetically hereterogenous B-cell neoplasms. To date, the diagnosis of DLBCL and FL has been based on morphology, immunophenotyping and cytogenetics. However, next-generation sequencing (NGS) is widening our understanding of the genetic basis of the B-cell lymphomas. In this review we will discuss how integrating the NGS-based characterization of somatic gene mutations with diagnostic or prognostic value in DLBCL and FL could help refine B-cell lymphoma classification as part of a multidisciplinary pathology work-up. We will also discuss how molecular testing can identify candidates for clinical trials with targeted therapies and help predict therapeutic outcome to currently available treatments, including chimeric antigen receptor T-cell, as well as explore the application of circulating cell-free DNA, a non-invasive method for patient monitoring. We conclude that molecular analyses can drive improvements in patient outcomes due to an increased understanding of the different pathogenic pathways affected by each DLBCL subtype and indolent FL vs R/R FL.
