RESUMO
Cystic dilatations of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic biliary trees are common congenital anomalies that frequently require surgical intervention. We have presented a case of Caroli's disease in which an accurate diagnosis was made noninvasively preoperatively, using computerized tomography, ultrasonography, and cholescintigraphy.

An infant with a gastroschisis defect and severe congenital contractures of all extremities is presented. This case has offered dilemmas in judgement and in management as well. It is suggested that the occurrence of both these malformations in the same infant is probably not coincidental.

Bacterial peritonitis is an unusual complication of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt for hydrocephalus. This complication, usually associated with peritoneal cysts of perforated viscus, may occur as the first manifestation of shunt infection. Early recognition of this form of bacterial peritonitis and appropriate antibiotic therapy may avert major abdominal surgery in selected cases.

The mesodiverticular band is an embryologic remnant of the vitelline circulation which carries the arterial supply to the Meckel's diverticulum. In the event of an error of involution, a patent or nonpatent arterial band persists and extends from the mesentery to the apex of the antimesenteric diverticulum. This creates a snare-like opening through which bowel loops may herinate and become obstruced. Clinical and radiological findings of acute, low, small-bowel obstruction are produced by this band.
