Somatostatin and epidermal growth factor have been studied for their elimination from the blood-circulatory channel by the lung tissue. Formation of the peptide-protein complex decreases introduction of peptides into the lung tissue. Changes of the peptide-protein binding in blood plasma induce corresponding variations in transport of peptides through the hematoparenchymatous lung barrier, that can be of regulatory significance.

An original hypothesis of the tumour growth is suggested proceeding from the biological law of development. It follows from this hypothesis that during the malignant processes occurs the partial derepression of the germinative cell genome which determines its phenotypical property (potential immortality realized in the cell life cycle). It is supposed that potential immortality, a phenotypic property of the malignant cell, is also realized in the cell life cycle.

The conjugate of amino acids and glucosamine (glycamine) was purified to homogeneity from blood plasma of rats with Guerin carcinoma. The NH2-groups of amino acids in the glycamine are free. Amino acids are linked to glucosamine via carboxyl groups. 8 amino acids residues were identified in the glycamine molecule (Glu-2, Ser-2, Gly-3, Lys-1). Spatial atomic-molecular model of the glycamine molecule was developed. Two glucosamine molecules are linked to diaminosaccharide via (1-4)-bond, 8 amino acid molecules are linked to diaminosaccharide via 6 ester and 2 pseudopeptide bonds.

The ectopic hormone secretion by the transformed cells is analyzed. The classification of hormone-secreting tumours is suggested. Diagnostic, differential-diagnostic and prognostic values of hormone determination during neoplastic growth are estimated. Clinical and experimental criteria of tumour hormone secretion are characterized.

[Effect of electrostimulation of the hypothalamus on the immunological reactivity of rats with 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-induced tumors]. / Vliianie élektrostimuliatsii gipotalamusa na immunologicheskuiu reaktivnost' krys s opukholiami, indutsirovannymi 7,12-dimetilbenz[a]antratsenom.

Experiments on Wistar male rats established that electrostimulation of the area of the posterior hypothalamic nuclei 2.5 months after administration of 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene into the femur muscle restrained to a considerable extent the inhibitory effect of the carcinogen on the immune reactivity. The reactivity was estimated by the amount of antibody-forming and rosette-forming cells in the spleen, thymus, lymph nodes and by the activity of DNA synthesis in the cells of these organs. The effect of hypothalamus electrostimulation may be a determinant in the mechanism of the inhibitory action of chemical carcinogenesis.

[Correction of the function of the sympathoadrenal system in the surgical and combined treatment of patients with cancer of the esophagus and stomach]. / Korrektsiia funktsii simpatoadrenalovoi sistemy pri khirurgicheskom i kombinirovannom lechenii bol'nykh rakon pishchevoda i zheludka.

The study was concerned with the functional condition of the sympatho-adrenal system in 80 patients with cancer of the esophagus and proximal part of the stomach who had undergone surgery and received combined treatment, coupled with measures aimed at correcting the sympatho-adrenal system in some cases. Treatment with phenformin, decaris and S-methylmethionine was shown to produce a favorable effect on certain stages of catecholamine synthesis and metabolism as well as on immunologic indexes and hemodynamic stability.

Excretion of corticosteroids, levels of 11-OCS in blood plasma, tests with dexasone and clinical evaluation of the pituitary-adrenal system function were studied in 354 patients with carcinomas of the esophagus and proximal stomach division. Some degree of hypocorticism with a decrease in the 11-OCS level in blood plasma and lowered excretion of corticosteroids in the urine were found in 71% of patients. These variations are accompanied by lowered hypothalamus sensitivity to dexasone. Similar disturbances though less pronounced are determined in the precancerous states and in the remote periods after operation.

Patients with esophageal and gastric cancer show a decreased diurnal excretion of DOPA matched by a considerable drop in the urine levels of catecholamines and their main metabolites as compared with healthy subjects. This points to a severe inhibition of synthesis and metabolism of catecholamines at all stages. Tumor process progression is accompanied by an ever-increasing inhibition of sympatho-adrenal system function. Simultaneously, disorders develop in the functioning of the cholinergic structures of the nervous system.

[Correction of hypophyseal-adrenal system function in esophageal and stomach cancer patients undergoing combined and surgical treatments]. / Korrektsiia funktsii gipofizarno-nadpochechnikovoi sistemy u bol'nykh rakom pishchevoda i zheludka pri kombinirovannom i khirurgicheskom lechenii.

The paper presents the data on marked dysfunction of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal system in patients with esophageal and gastric cancer. Patients revealed lowered levels of 11-hydroxycorticosteroids in blood plasma and 17-corticosteroids and 17-glucocorticosteroids in diurnal urine. It was matched by an elevated threshold of hypothalamic sensitivity to inhibition by glucocorticosteroids. Treatment for these disturbances which brought the function of this system to normal had a beneficial effect on the secretion and excretion of corticosteroids in the course of combined therapy and surgery and was followed by a significant decrease in hemodynamic complication incidence. The favorable clinical effect was in correlation with the decrease in hypothalamic resistance to the inhibitory effect of glucocorticoids.

[Effect of fenformin, L-DOPA and para-chlorophenylalanine on the immunological reactivity and chemical carcinogenesis in BALB/c mice]. / Vliianie fenformina, L-DOFA i parakhlorfenilalanina na immunologicheskuiu reaktivnost' i razvitiie khimicheskogo kantserogeneza u myshei BALB/c.

Treatment with 20-methylcholanthrene resulted in the increase in hypothalamic levels of noradrenaline and serotonin in BALB/c mice. Immunization of carcinogen-treated animals with ovine erythrocytes was followed by changes in the hypothalamic levels of central neurotransmitters, opposite to those in intact immunized controls. After correction of the levels of neurotransmitters in the hypothalamus with phenformin, parachlorophenylalanine or L-dopa carried out prior to immunization, the fraction of antibody-producing cells in the spleen of carcinogen-treated mice returned to normal. A combined administration of immunostimulators and drugs for correction of hypothalamic levels of noradrenaline and serotonin potentiated inhibitory effect of the former on chemical carcinogenesis.
