BACKGROUND: Pulmonary arterial hypertension is characterized by poor exercise tolerance. The contribution of right ventricular (RV) diastolic function to the augmentation of cardiac output during exercise is not known. This study leverages pressure-volume (p-V) loop analysis to characterize the impact of RV diastology on poor flow augmentation during exercise in PAH. METHODS: RV p-V loops were measured in 41 PAH patients at rest and during supine bike exercise. Patients were stratified by median change in cardiac index during exercise into two groups: high and low CI reserve. Indices of diastolic function (end-diastolic elastance, Eed) and ventricular interdependence (left ventricular transmural pressure, LVTMP) were compared at matched exercise stages. RESULTS: Compared to patients with high CI reserve, those with low reserve exhibited lower exercise stroke volume (36 versus 49 ml·m-2, p=0.0001), with higher associated exercise afterload (Ea 1.76 versus 0.90 mmHg·mL-1, p<0.0001), RV stiffness (Eed 0.68 versus 0.26 mmHg·mL-1, p=0.003), and right-sided pressures (RA 14 versus 8 mmHg, p=0.002). Higher right-sided pressures led to significantly lower LV filling among the low CI reserve subjects (LVTMP -4.6 versus 3.2 mmHg, p=0.0001). Interestingly, low exercise flow reserve correlated significantly with high afterload and RV stiffness, but not with RV contractility nor RV-PA coupling. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with poor exercise CI reserve exhibit poor exercise RV afterload, stiffness, and right-sided filling pressures that depress LV filling and stroke work. High afterload and RV stiffness were the best correlates to low flow reserve in PAH. Exercise unmasked significant pathophysiologic PAH differences unapparent at rest.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Intracranial modulation paradigms, namely deep brain stimulation (DBS) and motor cortex stimulation (MCS), have been used to treat intractable pain disorders. However, treatment efficacy remains heterogeneous, and factors associated with pain reduction are not completely understood. METHODS: We performed an individual patient review of pain outcomes (visual analog scale, quality-of-life measures, complications, pulse generator implant rate, cessation of stimulation) after implantation of DBS or MCS devices. We evaluated 663 patients from 36 study groups and stratified outcomes by pain etiology and implantation targets. RESULTS: Included studies comprised primarily retrospective cohort studies. MCS patients had a similar externalized trial success rate compared with DBS patients (86% vs 81%; P = .16), whereas patients with peripheral pain had a higher trial success rate compared with patients with central pain (88% vs 79%; P = .004). Complication rates were similar for MCS and DBS patients (12% vs 15%; P = .79). Patients with peripheral pain had lower likelihood of device cessation compared with those with central pain (5.7% vs 10%; P = .03). Of all implanted patients, mean pain reduction at last follow-up was 45.8% (95% CI: 40.3-51.2) with a 31.2% (95% CI: 12.4-50.1) improvement in quality of life. No difference was seen between MCS patients (43.8%; 95% CI: 36.7-58.2) and DBS patients (48.6%; 95% CI: 39.2-58) or central (41.5%; 95% CI: 34.8-48.2) and peripheral (46.7%; 95% CI: 38.9-54.5) etiologies. Multivariate analysis identified the anterior cingulate cortex target to be associated with worse pain reduction, while postherpetic neuralgia was a positive prognostic factor. CONCLUSION: Both DBS and MCS have similar efficacy and complication rates in the treatment of intractable pain. Patients with central pain disorders tended to have lower trial success and higher rates of device cessation. Additional prognostic factors include anterior cingulate cortex targeting and postherpetic neuralgia diagnosis. These findings underscore intracranial neurostimulation as an important modality for treatment of intractable pain disorders.

It is hypothesized that disparate brain regions interact via synchronous activity to control behavior. The nature of these interconnected ensembles remains an area of active investigation, and particularly the role of high frequency synchronous activity in simplistic behavior is not well known. Using intracranial electroencephalography, we explored the spectral dynamics and network connectivity of sensorimotor cortical activity during a simple motor task in seven epilepsy patients. Confirming prior work, we see a "spectral tilt" (increased high-frequency (HF, 70-100 Hz) and decreased low-frequency (LF, 3-33 Hz) broadband oscillatory activity) in motor regions during movement compared to rest, as well as an increase in LF synchrony between these regions using time-resolved phase-locking. We then explored this phenomenon in high frequency and found a robust but opposite effect, where time-resolved HF broadband phase-locking significantly decreased during movement. This "connectivity tilt" (increased LF synchrony and decreased HF synchrony) displayed a graded anatomical dependency, with the most robust pattern occurring in primary sensorimotor cortical interactions and less robust pattern occurring in associative cortical interactions. Connectivity in theta (3-7 Hz) and high beta (23-27 Hz) range had the most prominent low frequency contribution during movement, with theta synchrony building gradually while high beta having the most prominent effect immediately following the cue. There was a relatively sharp, opposite transition point in both the spectral and connectivity tilt at approximately 35 Hz. These findings support the hypothesis that task-relevant high-frequency spectral activity is stochastic and that the decrease in high-frequency synchrony may facilitate enhanced low frequency phase coupling and interregional communication. Thus, the "connectivity tilt" may characterize behaviorally meaningful cortical interactions.

Aim: This meta-analysis aims to shed light on any primacy the trans-carotid (TC-TAVR) access may have over the trans-femoral access (TF-TAVR) for those undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Methods: PubMed/MEDLINE and Cochrane Library were searched, from inception to March 2023 retrieving seven adjusted studies with a total of 6609 patients, of which 5048 underwent TF-TAVR while 1561 underwent TC-TAVR. Results: No divergence in risk of mortality, major bleeding or stroke/transient ischemic attack in TC-TAVR when compared with TF-TAVR was found. In TC-TAVR, the risk of vascular complications was low (OR: 0.51, 95% CI: 0.32-0.83, p = 0.003) as compared with TF-TAVR. Conclusion: As of this analysis, the viability of TC-TAVR as first alternative to TF-TAVR is plausible.

Pain is a complex experience that remains largely unexplored in naturalistic contexts, hindering our understanding of its neurobehavioral representation in ecologically valid settings. To address this, we employed a multimodal, data-driven approach integrating intracranial electroencephalography, pain self-reports, and facial expression quantification to characterize the neural and behavioral correlates of naturalistic acute pain in twelve epilepsy patients undergoing continuous monitoring with neural and audiovisual recordings. High self-reported pain states were associated with elevated blood pressure, increased pain medication use, and distinct facial muscle activations. Using machine learning, we successfully decoded individual participants' high versus low self-reported pain states from distributed neural activity patterns (mean AUC = 0.70), involving mesolimbic regions, striatum, and temporoparietal cortex. High self-reported pain states exhibited increased low-frequency activity in temporoparietal areas and decreased high-frequency activity in mesolimbic regions (hippocampus, cingulate, and orbitofrontal cortex) compared to low pain states. This neural pain representation remained stable for hours and was modulated by pain onset and relief. Objective facial expression changes also classified self-reported pain states, with results concordant with electrophysiological predictions. Importantly, we identified transient periods of momentary pain as a distinct naturalistic acute pain measure, which could be reliably differentiated from affect-neutral periods using intracranial and facial features, albeit with neural and facial patterns distinct from self-reported pain. These findings reveal reliable neurobehavioral markers of naturalistic acute pain across contexts and timescales, underscoring the potential for developing personalized pain interventions in real-world settings.

Traditionally known for managing blood sugar, GLP-1, a gut hormone, is emerging as a potential key to both lengthening lifespan and combating age-related ailments. While widely recognized for its role in blood sugar control, GLP-1 is increasingly recognized for its diverse effects on various biological pathways beyond glucose metabolism. Research across organisms and humans suggests that activating GLP-1 receptors significantly impacts cellular processes linked to aging. Its ability to boost mitochondrial function, enhance cellular stress resistance, and quell inflammation hints at its wider influence on aging mechanisms. This intricate interplay between GLP-1 and longevity appears to act through multiple pathways. One key effect is its ability to modulate insulin sensitivity, potentially curbing age-related metabolic issues like type 2 diabetes. Its neuroprotective properties also make it a promising candidate for addressing age-related cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases. Furthermore, preclinical studies using GLP-1 analogs or agonists have shown promising results in extending lifespan and improving healthspan in various model organisms. These findings provide a compelling rationale for exploring GLP-1-based interventions in humans to extend healthy aging. However, despite the exciting therapeutic prospects of GLP-1 in promoting longevity, challenges remain. Determining optimal dosages, establishing long-term safety profiles, and investigating potential adverse effects require comprehensive clinical investigations before we can confidently translate these findings to humans. This article emphasises the wide applicability of GLP-1.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Aromatherapy, a holistic healing practice utilizing the aromatic essences of plant-derived essential oils, has gained significant attention for its therapeutic potential in promoting overall well-being. Use of phytoconstituent based essential oil has played a significant role in the evolving therapeutic avenue of aromatherapy as a complementary system of medicine. AIM OF THE STUDY: This comprehensive review article aims to explore the usage of essential oils for aromatherapy, shedding light on their diverse applications, scientific evidence, and safety considerations. Furthermore, the growing interest in using essential oils as complementary therapies in conjunction with conventional medicine is explored, underscoring the significance of collaborative healthcare approaches. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Literature search was performed from databases like PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Bentham using keywords like Aromatherapy, Aromatic Plants, Essential oils, Phytotherapy, and complementary medicine. The keywords were used to identify literature with therapeutic and mechanistic details of herbal agents with desired action. RESULTS: The integration of traditional knowledge with modern scientific research has led to a renewed interest in essential oils as valuable tools in contemporary healthcare. Various extraction methods used to obtain essential oils are presented, emphasizing their impact on the oil's chemical composition and therapeutic properties. Additionally, the article scrutinizes the factors influencing the quality and purity of essential oils, elucidating the significance of standardization and certification for safe usage. A comprehensive assessment of the therapeutic effects of essential oils is provided, encompassing their potential as antimicrobial, analgesic, anxiolytic, and anti-inflammatory agents, among others. Clinical trials and preclinical studies are discussed to consolidate the existing evidence on their efficacy in treating diverse health conditions, both physical and psychological. Safety considerations are of paramount importance when employing essential oils, and this review addresses potential adverse effects, contraindications, and best practices to ensure responsible usage. CONCLUSIONS: This comprehensive review provides valuable insights into the exploration of essential oils for aromatherapy, emphasizing their potential as natural and potent remedies for a wide range of ailments. By amalgamating traditional wisdom and modern research, this article aims to encourage further investigation into the therapeutic benefits of essential oils while advocating for their responsible and evidence-based incorporation into healthcare practices.

INTRODUCTION: The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 triggered a global health emergency, causing > 7 million deaths thus far. Limited early knowledge spurred swift research, treatment, and vaccine developments. Implementation of public health measures such as, lockdowns and social distancing, disrupted economies and strained healthcare. Viral mutations highlighted the need for flexible strategies and strong public health infrastructure, with global collaboration crucial for pandemic control. AREAS COVERED: (i) Revisiting diagnostic strategies, (ii) adapting to the evolving challenge of the virus, (iii) vaccines against new variants, (iv) vaccine hesitancy in the light of the evolving disease, (v) treatment strategies, (vi) hospital preparedness for changing clinical needs, (vii) global cooperation and data sharing, (viii) economic implications, and (ix) education and awareness- keeping communities informed. EXPERT OPINION: The COVID-19 crisis forced unprecedented adaptation, emphasizing public health readiness, global unity, and scientific advancement. Key lessons highlight the importance of adaptability and resilience against uncertainties. As the pandemic evolves into a 'new normal,' ongoing vigilance, improved understanding, and available vaccines and treatments equip us for future challenges. Priorities now include proactive pandemic strategies, early warnings, supported healthcare, public education, and addressing societal disparities for better health resilience and sustainability.

BACKGROUND: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has shown individual promise in treating treatment resistant depression (TRD), but larger-scale trials have been less successful. Here, we create the largest meta-analysis with individual patient data (IPD) to date to explore if the use of tractography enhances the efficacy of DBS for TRD. METHODS: We systematically reviewed 1823 articles, selecting 32 that contributed data from 366 patients. We stratified the IPD based on stimulation target and use of tractography. Utilizing two-way type III Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Welch Two Sample t-tests, and mixed-effects linear regression models, we evaluated changes in depression severity 9-15 months post-surgery (1-Y) and at last follow-up (LFU) (4 weeks - 8 years) as assessed by depression scales. RESULTS: Tractography was used for medial forebrain bundle (MFB, n=17/32), subcallosal cingulate (SCC, n=39/241), and ventral capsule/ventral striatum (VC/VS, n=3/41) targets; and not used for bed nucleus of stria terminalis (n=11), lateral habenula (n=10), and inferior thalamic peduncle (n=1). Across all patients, tractography significantly improved mean depression scores at 1-Y (p<0.001) and LFU (p=0.009). Within the target cohorts, tractography improved depression scores at 1-Y for both MFB and SCC, though significance was only met at the alpha = 0.1 level (SCC: ß=15.8%, p=0.09; MFB: ß=52.4%, p=0.10). Within the tractography cohort, MFB with tractography patients showed greater improvement than those with SCC with tractography (72.42±7.17% versus 54.78±4.08%) at 1-Y (p=0.044). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings underscore the promise of tractography in DBS for TRD as a methodology for personalization of therapy, supporting its inclusion in future trials.

Targeted tissue ablation involving the anterior hippocampus is the standard of care for patients with drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. However, a substantial proportion continues to suffer from seizures even after surgery. We identified the fasciola cinereum (FC) neurons of the posterior hippocampal tail as an important seizure node in both mice and humans with epilepsy. Genetically defined FC neurons were highly active during spontaneous seizures in epileptic mice, and closed-loop optogenetic inhibition of these neurons potently reduced seizure duration. Furthermore, we specifically targeted and found the prominent involvement of FC during seizures in a cohort of six patients with epilepsy. In particular, targeted lesioning of the FC in a patient reduced the seizure burden present after ablation of anterior mesial temporal structures. Thus, the FC may be a promising interventional target in epilepsy.

Right ventricular (RV) to pulmonary arterial (PA) coupling describes the ability of the RV to augment contractility in response to increased afterload. Several echocardiographic indexes of RV-PA coupling have been defined; however, the optimal numerator in the coupling ratio is unclear. We sought to establish which of these ratios is best for assessing RV-PA coupling based on their relations with 6-minute walk distance (6MWD), N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), and the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) in aging adults. In this study of 1,611 Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis participants who underwent echocardiography at Exam 6, we evaluated the association between different numerators, including tricuspid annular planar systolic excursion (TAPSE), fractional area change (FAC), RV free wall strain, and tissue Doppler imaging S' velocity to pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) with 6MWD, NT-proBNP, and KCCQ score, adjusted for socioeconomic and cardiovascular disease risk factors. Our cohort had a mean age of 73 ± 8 years, 54% female, 17% Chinese American, 22% African American, 22% Hispanic, and 39% White participants. The mean ( ± SD) TAPSE/PASP, FAC/PASP, tissue Doppler imaging S' velocity/PASP, and RV free wall strain:PASP ratios were 0.7 ± 0.2, 1.3 ± 0.3, 0.5 ± 0.1, and 0.8 ± 0.2, respectively. All RV-PA coupling indices decreased with age (p <0.0001 for all). TAPSE:PASP ratio was lower in older (³85 years) female (0.59 ± 0.14) versus male (0.65 ± 0.17) participants (p = 0.01), whereas FAC/PASP ratio was higher in the same female versus male participants (p <0.01). TAPSE/PASP and FAC/PASP ratios were significantly and strongly associated with all NT-proBNP, 6MWD, and KCCQ scores in fully adjusted and receiver operating characteristic analysis. In older community-dwelling adults free of heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, both FAC/PASP and TAPSE:PASP ratios are optimal for assessment of RV-PA coupling based on its association with 6MWD, NT-proBNP, and KCCQ score. FAC/PASP ratio has the additional benefit of reflecting age and gender-related geometric and functional changes.

This study aims to extend earlier Krogh Cylinder Models of an oxygen profile by considering axial diffusion and analytically solving Fick's Law Partial Differential Equation with novel boundary conditions via the separation of variables. We next prospectively collected a total of 20 animals, which were randomly assigned to receive either fresh or two-week-old stored red blood cell (RBC) transfusions and PQM oxygen data were measured acutely (90 min) or chronically (24 h). Transfusion effects were evaluated in vivo using intravital microscopy of the dorsal skinfold window chamber in Golden Syrian Hamsters. Hamsters were initially hemorrhaged by 50% of total blood volume and resuscitated 1-h post hemorrhage. PQM data were subsequently collected and fit the derived 2D Krogh cylinder model. Systemic hemodynamics (mean arterial pressure, heart rate) were similar in both pre and post-transfusion with either stored or fresh cells. Transfusion with stored cells was found to impair axial and radial oxygen gradients as quantified by our model and consistent with previous studies. Specifically, we observed a statistically significant decrease in the arteriolar tissue radial oxygen gradient after transfusion with stored RBCs at 24 h compared with fresh RBCs (0.33 ± 0.17 mmHg µ m-1 vs, 0.14 ± 0.12 mmHg µ m-1; p = 0.0280). We also observed a deficit in the arteriolar tissue oxygen gradient (0.03 ± 0.01 mmHg µ m-1 fresh vs. 0.018 ± 0.007 mmHg µ m-1 stored; p = 0.0185). We successfully derived and validated an analytical 2D Krogh cylinder model in an animal model of microhemodynamic oxygen diffusion aberration secondary to storage lesions.

Phytoestrogens, also known as xenoestrogens, are secondary metabolites derived from plants that have similar structures and biological effects as human estrogens. These compounds do not directly affect biological functions but can act as agonists or antagonists depending on the level of endogenous estrogen in the body. Phytoestrogens may have an epigenetic mechanism of action independent of estrogen receptors. These compounds are found in more than 300 plant species and are synthesized through the phenylpropanoid pathway, with specific enzymes leading to various chemical structures. Phytoestrogens, primarily phenolic compounds, include isoflavonoids, flavonoids, stilbenes, and lignans. Extensive research in animals and humans has demonstrated the protective effects of phytoestrogens on estrogen-dependent diseases. Clinical trials have also shown their potential benefits in conditions such as osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease, and certain types of cancer. This review provides a concise overview of phytoestrogen classification, chemical diversity, and biosynthesis and discusses the potential therapeutic effects of phytoestrogens, as well as their preclinical and clinical development.

In this work, silver­bismuth oxide encapsulated 1,3,5-triazine-bis(4-methylbenzenesulfonyl)-hydrazone functionalized chitosan (SBO/FCS) nanocomposite was synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. The amine (-NH2) group was functionalized by the addition of cyanuric acid chloride followed by 4-methylbenzenesulfonol hydrazide. The SBO/FCS has been characterized by FT-IR, X-ray diffraction, XPS, HR-SEM, HR-TEM, AFM, and thermogravimetry (TGA). Under the optimum conditions, the SBO/FCS sensor showed brilliant electrochemical accomplishment for the sensing of glucose and H2O2 by a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.057 µM and 0.006 µM. It also showed linearity for glucose 0.008-4.848 mM and for H2O2 of 0.01-6.848 mM. Similarly, the sensor exhibited a low sensitivity to glucose (32 µA mM-1 cm-2) and a good sensitivity to H2O2 (295 µA mM-1 cm-2). In addition, that the prepared electrode could be used to sense the glucose and H2O2 levels in real samples such as blood serum and HeLa cell lines. The screen printed electrode (SPE) immunosensor could sense the E. coli O157:H7 concurrently and quantitatively with a linear range of 1.0 × 101-1.0 × 109 CFU mL-1 and a LOD of 4 CFU mL-1. Likewise, the immunosensor efficiently detect spiked E. coli O157:H7 in milk, chicken, and pork samples, with recoveries ranging from 89.70 to 104.72 %, demonstrating that the immunosensor was accurate and reliable.

BACKGROUND: Propolis is a resinous compound that is obtained from honey bees. It consists of numerous chemical constituents that impart different therapeutic action. The heart is the core of the body and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a burden for the human being. This article emphasizes how propolis is fruitful in the management of various CVDs. SCOPE AND APPROACH: This review focuses on how various constituents of the propolis (such as terpenes, flavonoids, phenolics, etc.) impart cardio protective actions. KEY FINDING AND CONCLUSION: With the support of various clinical trials and research outcomes, it was concluded that propolis owns niche cardio protective properties that can be a boon for various cardiac problems (both in preventive and therapeutic action) such as atherosclerosis, excessive angiogenesis, hypertension, and many more.

RESUMO

Pancreatic cancer, particularly pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, remains a devastating disease with a dismal prognosis and limited survival rates. Despite various drug treatments and regimens showing promise in managing the disease, the clinical outcomes have not significantly improved. Immunotherapy however, has become a forefront area in pancreatic cancer treatment. This approach comprises a range of agents, including small molecule drugs, antibodies, combination therapies, and vaccines. In the last 5-8 years, there has been an upsurge of research into the use of monoclonal antibodies to block receptors on cancer or immune cells, revolutionising cancer treatment and management. Several targets have been identified and studied, with the most encouraging noted in relation to checkpoint markers, namely, antibodies targeting anti-programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) and its receptor PD-L1. Herein, we present the clinical developments in immunotherapy in the last 5 years especially those which have been tested in humans against pancreatic cancer.

INTRODUCTION: The escalating prevalence of infectious diseases is an important cause of concern in society. Particularly in several developing countries, infectious diarrhea poses a major problem, with a high fatality rate, especially among young children. The condition is divided into four classes, namely, acute diarrhea, invasive diarrhea, acute bloody diarrhea, and chronic diarrhea. Various pathogenic agents, such as bacteria, viruses, protozoans, and helminths, contribute to the onset of this condition. AREAS COVERED: The review discusses the scenario of infectious diarrhea, the prevalent types, as well as approaches to management including preventive, therapeutic, and vaccination strategies. The vaccination techniques are extensively discussed including the available vaccines, their advantages as well as limitations. EXPERT OPINION: There are several approaches available to develop new-improved vaccines. In addition, route of immunization is important and aerosols/nasal sprays, oral route, skin patches, powders, and liquid jets to minimize needles can be used. Plant-based vaccines, such as rice, might save packing and refrigeration costs by being long-lasting, non-refrigerable, and immunogenic. Future research should utilize predetermined PCR testing intervals and symptom monitoring to identify persistent pathogens after therapy and symptom remission.

There is a growing awareness that both thick-filament and classical thin-filament regulations play central roles in modulating muscle contraction. Myosin ATPase assays have demonstrated that under relaxed conditions, myosin may reside either in a high-energy-consuming disordered-relaxed (DRX) state available for binding actin to generate force or in an energy-sparing super-relaxed (SRX) state unavailable for actin binding. X-ray diffraction studies have shown that the majority of myosin heads are in a quasi-helically ordered OFF state in a resting muscle and that this helical ordering is lost when myosin heads are turned ON for contraction. It has been assumed that myosin heads in SRX and DRX states are equivalent to the OFF and ON states, respectively, and the terms have been used interchangeably. In this study, we use X-ray diffraction and ATP turnover assays to track the structural and biochemical transitions of myosin heads, respectively, induced with either omecamtiv mecarbil (OM) or piperine in relaxed porcine myocardium. We find that while OM and piperine induce dramatic shifts of myosin heads from the OFF to the ON state, there are no appreciable changes in the population of myosin heads in the SRX and DRX states in both unloaded and loaded preparations. Our results show that biochemically defined SRX and DRX can be decoupled from structurally defined OFF and ON states. In summary, while SRX/DRX and OFF/ON transitions can be correlated in some cases, these two phenomena are measured using different approaches, reflect different properties of the thick filament, and should be investigated and interpreted separately.

Diabetes is a widespread epidemic that includes a number of comorbid conditions that greatly increase the chance of acquiring other chronic illnesses. Every year, there are significantly more people with diabetes because of the rise in type-2 diabetes prevalence. The primary causes of illness and mortality worldwide are, among these, hyperglycemia and its comorbidities. There has been a lot of interest in the creation of peptide-based hydrogels as a potentially effective platform for the treatment of diabetes and its consequences. Here, we emphasize the use of self-assembled hydrogel formulations and their unique potential for the treatment/management of type-2 diabetes and its consequences. (i.e., wounds). Key aspects covered include the characteristics of self-assembled peptide hydrogels, methods for their preparation, and their pre-clinical and clinical applications in addressing metabolic disorders such as type-2 diabetes.
