RESUMO

The authors present the results of the tests of an adsorption unit model for a renal dialyzer comprising ligand-metabolic material. The solution is effectively purified of urine, ammonium, creatinine, uric acid, sulphates and phosphates. Hydrodynamic properties of the unit were investigated. The resistance of the unit in operating condition does not exceed 150 mm Hg.

RESUMO

Immobilized forms of lysozyme were prepared by its covalent binding on dialdehyde cellulose and polycaproamide fibres as woven and knitted fabrics respectively. The preparations were estimated by the content of protein and bacteriolytic activity. The lysozyme activity per 1 g of the carrier and the protein content on dialdehyde cellulose were several times higher than those on polycaproamide while the specific activity of lysozyme on the polycaproamide carrier was somewhat higher than that on dialdehyde cellulose. The effect of the immobilized lysozyme in treatment of purulent wounds was studied on albino rats. It was shown that the periods of the wound healing with the use of the immobilized lysozyme were shorter than those with the use of native lysozyme. Cytological and morphological investigation of the wound wall confirmed the higher efficacy of the lysozyme immobilized forms in treatment of purulent wounds as compared to the use of the native enzyme.

RESUMO

An analysis of clinical material on 35 patients with pyo-inflammatory processes in soft tissues is presented which were treated using biologically active drains. The cytological and cytochemical investigations have shown that draining properties of the biologically active drains are much better than those of the chlorvinyl and silicon drains.

RESUMO

Analysis of the data obtained in experimental (971 animals) and clinical (250 patients) studies with various immobilized proteinases and their inhibitors showed that this approach to enzymotherapy is a perspective one. Immobilized enzymes and inhibitors exceeded distinctly the native preparations in therapeutic efficiency and were devoid of their disadvantages (low stability and autolysis of proteinases, inactivation by inhibitors, occurring in blood and tissues, rapid elimination of the inhibitors from the organism). Wide use of immobilized enzymes and inhibitors in medical practice offered new possibilities in surgery, shortened distinctly the duration of patients treatment and enabled to decrease the doses of drugs and consumption of dressing materials.

RESUMO

The effect of ionizing radiation of 0.05-10 Mrad on trypsin immobilized on dialdehyde cellulose was being studied. After irradiation the activity of native trypsin decreases by 25%, as compared with the initial, while the activity of immobilized trypsin remains constant. Before immobilization cellulose undergoes special pretreatment that leads to a decrease in the initial contamination. Some samples of modified cellulose were contaminated by staphylococcus culture (200,000 microbes per 0.2 g) and then exposed to irradiation of 0.05-0.4 Mrad. A distinct correlation between the irradiation dose (0.05-0.4 Mrad) and contamination of the object was registered.

RESUMO

Antithrombotic properties are induced in polymers used in vascular surgery by modifying their surface chemically by introducing heparin by means of quaternary bases. The authors have studied the interaction of heparin with quaternary polyvinylpyridinium bromide. Optimal conditions for obtaining this complex have been established. The complex is insoluble in distilled water but passes partly into solution in the presence of an excess of heparin or in physiologic solution. Using spectral methods and elementar analysis it was found that the interaction of heparin with quaternary polyvinylpyridinium gives rise to a polyelectrolyte complex in which heparin undergoes structural changes, probably pertaining to sulfonamide or sulfoether groups.
