RESUMO

Currently, modern dentistry is developing by leaps and bounds. Implantology is not an exception, which is an alternative to restoring the chewing function of teeth. Dental implantation is becoming more and more popular. However, the percentage of dental implant complications is also steadily increasing. There are many reasons associated with the work of the doctor (violation of technology), and with the patient himself. It should be noted that with the observance of measures to prevent the development of complications during dental implantation, high-quality technique of the doctor, the percentage of prevalence of post-prosthetic complications increases. Currently, there is no single approach to the treatment and prevention of complications of dental implantation. This paper provides information about the General and local factors-predictors of post-prosthetic complications, describes the factors that the dentist should pay attention to in the first place, which will improve the quality of medical care at the dental reception.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the performance of trans-serosal multimodal OCT (MM OCT) in in vivo detecting of changes in microstructure and blood circulation of the small intestine wall caused by arteriovenous ischemia resulted from intestine strangulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In experiments on Wistar rats (n=22), we examined the small intestine wall in vivo using MM OCT; the access to the intestine was reached through laparotomy. The microvasculature and microstructure of the wall were studied before and after acute arteriovenous ischemia created by ligation of a small bowel segment. The results were then added with data obtained from histological and intravital microscopic examination. RESULTS: Trans-serous MM OCT allowed us to visualize the bowel wall to its entire thickness, distinguish between the serous-muscular and mucous-submucosal layers, and detect the villi and functioning blood vessels. The structures were best seen after a fat emulsion had been administered into the bowel lumen. In OCT images made in the optical coherent angiography (OCA) mode, large paired vessels (arteries and veins) and micro-vessels with a diameter of >15 µm could be seen. Most of the blood vessels were imaged in the depth range of 80-300 µm from the surface. Capillaries with a diameter of 7-10 µm were not seen, but they produced an overall bright background. In the OCA images reconstructed from a volume of 2.4×2.4×1.8 mm, the total length of the vascular bed before ischemia was 18.3 [16.6; 19.8] mm.Strangulation of the intestinal loop was associated with changes in the CP OCT picture: the villi-associated vertical pattern and shadows of blood vessels disappeared and the depth of tissue visualization in the cross-channel decreased. The optical equivalents of the serous-muscular layer were preserved; after 180±12 min of ischemia, their proportion in the intestinal wall thickness increased from 25 [18; 32] to 42 [31; 55]% (p=0.031). At that time-point, OCA images of the strangulated bowel loop looked all similar: a uniform dark background with isolated fragmentary large vessels and no signs of blood flow in the microvascular network. CONCLUSION: Trans-serous MM OCT provides for in vivo visualization of microstructures critical for surgical gastroenterology: the intestinal wall layers including villi and blood vessels of each layer, as confirmed by histological analysis. Destructive processes in the intestinal wall resulting from bowel ligation bring about optical changes, which can be detected using real-time MM OCT.

Olivomycin A is a highly active antitumor drug that belongs to the family of aureolic acid antibiotics. The antitumor effect of olivomycin A is related to its ability to bind to the DNA minor groove in GC-rich regions as Mg2+-coordinated complexes. Characterization of cellular targets of olivomycin A and its mechanism of action is crucial for the successful application of this antibiotic in clinical practice and development of semi-synthetic derivatives with improved pharmacological properties. Previously, we have shown that minor groove ligands are able to disrupt the key epigenetic process of DNA methylation. In this paper, we have studied the impact of olivomycin A and its improved semi-synthetic analogue N,N-dimethylaminoethylamide of 1'-des-(2,3-dihydroxy-n-butyroyl)-1'-carboxy-olivomycin A (olivamide) on the functioning of de novo DNA methyltransferase Dnmt3a (enzyme that carries out methylation of cytosine residues in the DNA CG-sites in eukaryotic cells) using an in vitro system consisting of the murine Dnmt3a catalytic domain and a 30-mer DNA duplex containing four consecutive GC pairs. We have shown that olivomycin A and olivamide inhibit Dnmt3a with IC50 of 6 ± 1 and 7.1 ± 0.7 µM, respectively. Neither olivomycin A nor olivamide interfered with the formation of the specific enzyme-substrate complex; however, olivomycin A prevented formation of the covalent DNA-Dnmt3a intermediate that is necessary for the methylation reaction to proceed. The inhibitory effects of olivomycin A and olivamide can be explained by the disruption of the enzyme catalytic loop movement through the DNA minor groove (the reaction stage that precedes the covalent bond formation between DNA and the enzyme). The results of this work indicate the epigenetic contribution to the antitumor effect of aureolic acid group antibiotics.

The skin response to high radio frequency has been associated with the human physical condition and most prominently with the stress. The objective of this study is to investigate the possibility to detect mental and light physical stress through the measurement of skin reflectance in the mm-wave/sub-THz band. Two frequency bands have been considered, 75-110 GHz (Band-I) and 325-500 GHz (Band-II), while the measurements have been performed in the three different locations, the arm, the dorsal side of the hand and the fingertip. The measurement setup is discussed in detail and the reflectance spectrum is demonstrated. The results illustrate a difference in skin reflectance under rest and stress in Band-II which ranges from 3.5 dB at the finger to 7 dB at the hand. The outcomes of this study indicate the feasibility of stress detection through skin reflectance measurement and serve as a suggestion for deeper exploration of higher frequency bands.

Isotopic purification of the protium and deuterium is an important requirement of many physics experiments. A cryogenic facility for high-efficiency separation of hydrogen isotopes with a cryogenic distillation column as the main element is described. The instrument is portable, so that it can be used at the experimental site. It was designed and built at the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Gatchina, Russia. Fundamental operating parameters have been measured including a liquid holdup in the column packing, the pressure drops across the column and the purity of the product at different operating modes. A mathematical model describes expected profiles of hydrogen isotope concentration along the distillation column. An analysis of ortho-parahydrogen isomeric composition by gas chromatography was used for evaluation of the column performance during the tuning operations. The protium content during deuterium purification (≤100 ppb) was measured using gas chromatography with accumulation of the protium in the distillation column. A high precision isotopic measurement at the Institute of Particle Physics, ETH-Zurich, Switzerland, provided an upper bound of the deuterium content in protium (≤6 ppb), which exceeds all commercially available products.

The MuCap experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institute has measured the rate Λ(S) of muon capture from the singlet state of the muonic hydrogen atom to a precision of 1%. A muon beam was stopped in a time projection chamber filled with 10-bar, ultrapure hydrogen gas. Cylindrical wire chambers and a segmented scintillator barrel detected electrons from muon decay. Λ(S) is determined from the difference between the µ(-) disappearance rate in hydrogen and the free muon decay rate. The result is based on the analysis of 1.2 × 10(10) µ(-) decays, from which we extract the capture rate Λ(S) = (714.9 ± 5.4(stat) ± 5.1(syst)) s(-1) and derive the proton's pseudoscalar coupling g(P)(q(0)(2) = -0.88 m(µ)(2)) = 8.06 ± 0.55.

RESUMO

Lactate dehydrogenase activity, crystallogenic and initiator characteristics of biological substrates were evaluated by enzymological and crystalloscopic analysis of rat serum and urine. Changes in these characteristics of biological media in combined thermal injury were shown. This approach is effective for evaluation of the metabolic status in rats with experimental burn disease.

The rate of nuclear muon capture by the proton has been measured using a new technique based on a time projection chamber operating in ultraclean, deuterium-depleted hydrogen gas, which is key to avoiding uncertainties from muonic molecule formation. The capture rate from the hyperfine singlet ground state of the microp atom was obtained from the difference between the micro(-) disappearance rate in hydrogen and the world average for the micro(+) decay rate, yielding Lambda(S)=725.0+/-17.4 s(-1), from which the induced pseudoscalar coupling of the nucleon, g(P)(q(2)=-0.88m(2)(micro))=7.3+/-1.1, is extracted.

RESUMO

Destruction of guard cell nuclei in epidermis isolated from leaves of pea, maize, sunflower, and haricot bean, as well as destruction of cell nuclei in leaves of the aquatic plants waterweed and eelgrass were induced by cyanide. Destruction of nuclei was strengthened by illumination, prevented by the antioxidant alpha-tocopherol and an electron acceptor N,N,N ,N -tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine, and removed by quinacrine. Photosynthetic O2 evolution by the leaf slices of a C3 plant (pea), or a C4 plant (maize) was inhibited by CN- inactivating ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase, and was renewed by subsequent addition of the electron acceptor p-benzoquinone.

Abstract The limited mass transfer in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-contaminated soils during bioremediation treatments often impedes the achievement of regulatory decontamination end-points. Little is known about bioavailability of these hydrophobic pollutants in phytoremediation systems. This work attempts to evaluate, for the first time, chemotaxis as a bioavailability-promoting trait in PAH-degrading bacteria from the rhizosphere. For this aim, 20 motile strains capable of degrading different PAHs were isolated from rhizosphere soils contaminated with coal tar and oil. Three representative Pseudomonas strains were selected, on the basis of their faster growth and/or range of PAHs degraded, for detailed chemotaxis studies with PAHs (naphthalene, phenanthrene, anthracene, and pyrene), bacterial lipopolysaccharide and root exudates from seven different plants. The chemotactic response was quantified with a new densitometric method. The results indicate that chemotaxis is a relevant mobilizing factor for PAH-degrading rhizosphere bacteria.
