RESUMO

The sliding mode control is well-known as a useful control technique that can be applied in several real-world applications. However, a straightforward and efficient process of selecting the sliding mode control gains remains a challenging but interesting topic. This paper investigates a novel gain tuning method for the sliding mode control of second-order mechanical systems. Firstly, we obtain relations between the gains and the natural and damping ratio of the closed-loop system. Secondly, the time constant of the system's actuators and the system response performance criteria, including settling time and delay time, are taken into consideration to determine appropriate ranges of the gains. These gain ranges allow control designers to select the controller gains in a time-saving manner and ensure that the desired system performance is met and the actuators work properly. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the gain tuning process of a sliding mode altitude controller for an actual quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicle. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of this method.

RESUMO

In this article, an adaptive non-singular terminal sliding mode controller (NTSMC) is designed based on a barrier function for the robust stability of a category of non-linear dynamic systems in the existence of the external disturbances. The planned approach implements a non-singular terminal sliding mode controller (NTSMC) to ensure robust performance with finite time convergence and singularity-free dynamics. It also uses Barrier Functions (BFs) as an adaptation approach for the NTSMC to attain the tracking errors' convergence to a pre-defined neighbourhood of origin, with a controller gain that is not over-estimated and without requiring any knowledge about the upper bounds of disturbances. The Lyapunov-based stability analysis is carried out to confirm the asymptotic convergence of tracking errors to a pre-defined neighbourhood of zero. The effectiveness and performance of the planned approach is illustrated through simulations and experiments.

RESUMO

A trajectory tracking control for quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based on a nonlinear robust backstepping algorithm and extended state/disturbance observer (ESDO) is presented in this paper. To obtain robust attitude stabilization and superior performance of three-dimension position tracking control, the construction of the proposed algorithm can be separated into three parts. First, a mathematical model of UAV negatively influenced by exogenous disturbances is established. Following, an extended state/disturbance observer using a general second-order model is designed to approximate undesirable influences of perturbations on the UAVs dynamics. Finally, a nonlinear robust controller is constructed by an integration of the nominal backstepping technique with ESDO to enhance the performance of attitude and position control mode. Robust stability of the closed-loop disturbed system is obtained and guaranteed through the Lyapunov theorem without precise knowledge of the upper bound condition of perturbations. Lastly, a numerical simulation is carried out and compared with other previous controllers to demonstrate the great advantage and effectiveness of the proposed control method.

RESUMO

In this study, a robust control technique is investigated for the reference tracking of uncertain time-delayed systems in the existence of the actuator saturation. Due to emerging of some control complexities, as well as the input limitations, time-varying delay, uncertainty, and external disturbance, such a tracking goal would be realized through suitable design of the composite nonlinear feedback (CNF) controller. Thus, considering the mentioned limitations, a Lyapunov-based procedure is used to determine the control law. Then, the parameters of the CNF input are derived by using the solution of a linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem. The planned tracking idea is numerically implemented in two uncertain control systems. Some performance characteristics (i.e., the tracking error, boundedness, and transient responses) are compared with similar ones. Accordingly, the simulations illustrate the efficiency of the suggested control procedure over the existing CNF approaches.

RESUMO

The main contribution of this paper is to develop a new flowmeter fault detection approach based on optimized non-singleton type-3 (NT3) fuzzy logic systems (FLSs). The introduced method is implemented on an experimental gas industry plant. The system is modeled by NT3FLSs, and the faults are detected by comparison of measured end estimated signals. In this scheme, the detecting performance depends on the estimation and modeling performance. The suggested NT3FLS is used because of the existence of a high level of measurement errors and uncertainties in this problem. The designed NT3FLS with uncertain footprint-of-uncertainty (FOU), fuzzy secondary memberships and adaptive non-singleton fuzzification results in a powerful tool for modeling signals immersed in noise and error. The level of non-singleton fuzzification and membership parameters are tuned by maximum correntropy (MC) unscented Kalman filter (KF), and the rule parameters are learned by correntropy KF (CKF) with fuzzy kernel size. The suggested learning algorithms can handle the non-Gaussian noises that are common in industrial applications. The various types of flowmeters are investigated, and the effect of common faults are examined. It is shown that the suggested approach can detect the various faults with good accuracy in comparison with conventional approaches.

RESUMO

In this study, a novel data-driven control scheme is presented for MEMS gyroscopes (MEMS-Gs). The uncertainties are tackled by suggested type-3 fuzzy system with non-singleton fuzzification (NT3FS). Besides the dynamics uncertainties, the suggested NT3FS can also handle the input measurement errors. The rules of NT3FS are online tuned to better compensate the disturbances. By the input-output data set a data-driven scheme is designed, and a new LMI set is presented to ensure the stability. By several simulations and comparisons the superiority of the introduced control scheme is demonstrated.

RESUMO

Underwater vehicles (UVs) are subjected to various environmental disturbances due to ocean currents, propulsion systems, and un-modeled disturbances. In practice, it is very challenging to design a control system to maintain UVs stayed at the desired static position permanently under these conditions. Therefore, in this study, a nonlinear dynamics and robust positioning control of the over-actuated autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) under the effects of ocean current and model uncertainties are presented. First, a motion equation of the over-actuated AUV under the effects of ocean current disturbances is established, and a trajectory generation of the over-actuated AUV heading angle is constructed based on the line of sight (LOS) algorithm. Second, a dynamic positioning (DP) control system based on motion control and an allocation control is proposed. For this, motion control of the over-actuated AUV based on the dynamic sliding mode control (DSMC) theory is adopted to improve the system robustness under the effects of the ocean current and model uncertainties. In addition, the stability of the system is proved based on Lyapunov criteria. Then, using the generalized forces generated from the motion control module, two different methods for optimal allocation control module: the least square (LS) method and quadratic programming (QP) method are developed to distribute a proper thrust to each thruster of the over-actuated AUV. Simulation studies are conducted to examine the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed DP controller. The results show that the proposed DP controller using the QP algorithm provides higher stability with smaller steady-state error and stronger robustness.

RESUMO

In this paper, in order to overcome certain limitations of previously commercialized platforms, a new integrated unmanned surface vehicle (USV) and unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) platform connected via underwater cable capable of acquiring real-time underwater data and long-time operation are studied. A catamaran-type USV was designed to overcome the limitations of an ocean environment and to play the role as the hub of power supply and communication for the integrated platform. Meanwhile, the UUV was designed as torpedo-shaped to minimize hydrodynamic resistance and its hardware design was focused on processing and sending the underwater camera and sonar data. The underwater cable driven by a winch system was installed to supply power from the USV to the UUV and to transmit acquired data form underwater sonar sensor or camera. Different from other previously studied cooperation system of USVs and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), the merit of the proposed system is real-time motion coordination control between the USV and UUV while transmitting large amount of data using the tether cable. The main focus of the study is coordination of the UUV with respect to the global positioning system (GPS) attached at USV and verification of its performance throughout field tests. Waypoint tracking control algorithm was designed and implemented on USV and relative heading, distance control for USV-UUV coordination was implemented to UUV. To ensure the integrity of the coordination control of the integrated platform, a study on accurate measurement system of the relative position between the USV and the UUV by using the GPS and the ultrashort baseline (USBL) device was performed. Individual tests were conducted to verify the performance of USBL and AHRS, which provide the position and heading data of UUV among the sensors mounted on the actual platform, and the effectiveness of the obtained sensor data is presented. Using the accurate measurement system, a number of field tests were conducted to verify the performance of the integrated platform.

RESUMO

This paper focuses on motion analysis of a coupled unmanned surface vehicle (USV)-umbilical cable (UC)-unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) system to investigate the interaction behavior between the vehicles and the UC in the ocean environment. For this, a new dynamic modeling method for investigating a multi-body dynamics system of this coupling system is employed. Firstly, the structure and hardware composition of the proposed system are presented. The USV and UUV are modeled as rigid-body vehicles, and the flexible UC is discretized using the catenary equation. In order to solve the nonlinear coupled dynamics of the vehicles and flexible UC, the fourth-order Runge-Kutta numerical method is implemented. In modeling the flexible UC dynamics, the shooting method is applied to solve a two-point boundary value problem of the catenary equation. The interaction between the UC and the USV-UUV system is investigated through numerical simulations in the time domain. Through the computer simulation, the behavior of the coupled USV-UC-UUV system is analyzed for three situations which can occur. In particular, variation of the UC forces and moments at the tow points and the configuration of the UC in the water are investigated.
