[Bacteriological examination of the content from neck cysts]. / Badanie bakteriologiczne tresci z torbieli szyi.

Bacteriological examination of the material obtained from neck cysts by fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed. In 96.2% of cases no microbiological infection was found. The infection was present only in 2 cases (3.8%).

[Difficulties in the aspiration cytodiagnosis of the neck tumors]. / Trudnosci w cytodiagnostyce aspiracyjnej guzów.

Since 1971 FNA is used at the ENT Department Medical Academy in Warsaw in the diagnosis of the neck and head tumors. This method was effective in 87.4% of cases. Among 382 biopsies of the neck tumors performed in 1980-1990, in which FNA results were compared with histopathology, in 12.6% of cases the false diagnosis was found. There were malignant primary tumors, cervical lymph nodes metastases, nonmalignant neck neoplasms, neck cysts and inflammations. The retrospective investigations of the smears allowed us to find out whether the false diagnosis depends on inappropriate interpretation of the smears or the diagnosis is really impossible to establish. The retrospective studies are very helpful for the better understanding of the malignant criteria and for the improvement of the results of the cytodiagnosis in the head and neck tumors.

[The significance of the cytological evaluation in the early diagnosis of the laryngeal carcinoma]. / Znaczenie badan cytologicznych we wczesnym wykrywaniu raka krtani.

The aim of the study was to find out how useful is the cytological examination in the detection of the laryngeal carcinoma. 70 cytological smears from the larynx were taken in the group of 35 patients with carcinoma of the larynx treated at the ENT Clinic. In 91% for the cases the agreement between cytological and histopatological results was found. In 9% the cytological examinations were false negative.

[Evaluation of complications after fine-needle biopsy of polymorphic adenoma from materials of the Otolaryngologic Clinic AM in Warsaw in the years 1983-1988]. / Ocena powiklan po biopsji cienkoiglowej gruczolaków wielopostaciowych w materiale Kliniki Otolaryngologii AM w Warszawie w latach 1983-1988.

The authors, who have an ample experience with thin-needle biopsy in the routine diagnosis of head and neck tumors present the results of analysis of 56 patients with salivary glands and adenomatous tissue of the platelet adenoma. The analysis showed, that early complications after this procedure are very rare. Properly performed thin-needle biopsy assured the oncological safety to the patient.

[The application of the alloplastic prosthesis in the nasal septal perforations]. / Ocena zastosowania protezy silikonowej w perforacjach przegrody nosa.

The alloplastic prosthesis in 14 patients with the nasal septal perforation is used with a good clinical results. In the cytological investigation a changes of the nasal epithelium before and after using the prosthesis were found.

[Human papilloma virus infection in the case of larynx carcinoma]. / Zakazenie wirusem brodawczaków ludzkich u chorego z rakiem krtani.

The case of 59 year old man treated for larynx carcinoma was presented. The potentially oncogenic human papillomavirus type 16/18 was detected in the tissue surrounding the tumor.

[Fine needle aspiration biopsy in the diagnosis of head and neck tumors]. / Zastosowanie cienkoiglowej punkcji aspiracyjnej w diagnostyce guzów glowy i szyi.

The results of 3039 fine needle aspiration biopsies of the head and neck tumors were presented. The comparison of cytological and histological examinations in 1141 patients showed that correct cytological diagnosis was established in 84.2% of cases.

[Nasal cytology in patients with non-seasonal atopic rhinitis]. / Wymazy cytologiczne u chorych na atopowy niesezonowy niezyt nosa.

The results of the cytological evaluation of the nasal smears taken from the patients with non-seasonal atopic rhinitis were presented. In 95% of smears a very abundant cytological material of the columnar epithelium cells was found. The smears taken by cyto-brushing (Medscand) showed the presence of the cytological material from the whole nasal mucosa, while those taken by the loop contained the cells from the small area of the mucosa.
