RESUMO

Background: Treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD) in children is generally symptomatic and unsatisfactory. Traditional Chinese medicines, such as Shenqu Xiaoshi Oral Liquid (SXOL), have been recommended to alleviate dyspeptic symptoms. However, evidence of their safety and efficacy remains limited to date. AIM: To assess whether 2 weeks of therapy with SXOL was non-inferior to domperidone syrup in children with FD. Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, double-simulated, non-inferiority, multi-center clinical trial, we recruited children (3-14 years) with FD according to the Rome IV criteria from 17 tertiary medical centers across China. Patients were randomly allocated (1:1) to receive SXOL or domperidone syrup for 2 weeks. We compared the participants' clinical scores from both groups based on the severity and frequency of dyspepsia symptoms according to Rome IV criteria (0, 1, 2, and 4 weeks after randomization). The primary endpoint was the total response rate, which was defined as the proportion of patients with a decrease of 30% or more in the FD symptoms clinical score from baseline, at the end of the 2-weeks treatment. A non-inferiority margin of -10% was set. Secondary endpoints and adverse events were assessed. This trial is registered with www.Chictr.org.cn, number ChiCTR1900022654. Results: Between February 2019 and March 2021, a total of 373 patients were assessed for eligibility, and 356 patients were enrolled and randomized. The clinical response rate at week two was similar for SXOL [118 (83.10%) of 142] and domperidone [128 (81.01%) of 158]; difference 2.09; 95% CI -6.74 to 10.71, thereby establishing non-inferiority. The total FD symptom scores were significantly improved in the two groups at 1-, 2-, and 4-weeks follow-up periods (p < 0.005). The decrease in symptom score compared with the baseline were similar between these two groups. Over the total study period, 10 patients experienced at least one treatment-related adverse event [six (3.37%)] in the SXOL group, four [(2.25%) in the domperidone group], although no serious adverse event was noted. Conclusion: Treatment with SXOL effectively improves dyspeptic symptoms and is well tolerated. In addition, it is not inferior to domperidone syrup and leads to sustained improvement in Chinese children with FD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is an important global health problem. Recent innovations have rendered quantification of serum hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) a valuable tool in hepatitis B virus (HBV) disease management and for determining the effectiveness of drug treatment. The aim of the present study was to compare the performances of the Elecsys HBsAg II and Abbott Architect HBsAg assays in Chinese patients with CHB, with predominantly genotypes B and C. METHODS: A dilution protocol was developed for the Elecsys assay to allow quantification of HBsAg levels. Sera were obtained from patients with various HBV genotypes, including HBV mutants, and longitudinal samples were obtained from patients undergoing antiviral treatment. RESULTS: There was a significant overall correlation between the Elecsys and Architect assays (r = 0.9881; p < 0.001). There were good correlations between the results of the two assays in terms of HBsAg levels in CHB samples (r = 0.9625-0.9974), in samples with low HBsAg levels (r = 0.9722, p < 0.001), across two genotypes (HBV genotype B, r = 0.9758, p < 0.001; HBV genotype C, r = 0.9943, p < 0.001), in samples with YMDD mutations (r = 0.9625, p < 0.001), and in samples from patients receiving anti-HBV treatment (r = 0.9974, p < 0.001). Bland-Altman analysis showed a discordance between the assays in all tested patients with CHB of 0.09 log IU/mL. CONCLUSIONS: Mean HBsAg levels detected by the Architect assay were higher than those obtained by the Elecsys assay. There was a good correlation between the results of the Elecsys HBsAg II and Abbott Architect HBsAg assays in patients with CHB, especially those with genotype C.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the characteristics related to the quality of life and the way of response among patients with anxiety disorder in Shandong province. METHODS: Case-control study was adopted, with secondary data analysis on mental disorders among adults over 18 years of age, in Shandong province. 720 patients with anxiety disorder who met the anxiety diagnostic criteria of DSM-IV, were selected from the database, according to the distributions on gender, age (±3 years of age), village or community. 720 persons without any psychiatric diagnosis were selected and served as controls, under 1 :1 paired choice. Research tools would include:General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12),Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ), and questionnaire on general information. RESULTS: Scores of QLQ among patients with anxiety disorder were lower than that of the control group, with statistically significant difference(P < 0.01). Scores on the negative ways of coping among patients with anxiety disorder were higher than the scores of the control group, with statistically significant difference(P < 0.01). Regardless of gender, age, occupation, education, marriage, religious belief etc., results from the 'two factors anova-analysis' showed that the scores of QLQ among patients with anxiety disorder were still lower than the scores of the control group while the scores on negative coping were still higher than the scores of the control group. CONCLUSION: Patients with anxiety disorder and having poor quality of life outnumbered the ones from the control group, and using negative coping ways to cope with the stress events.

RESUMO

Bird song dialects provide a useful model for the study of cultural evolution and its interactions with genetic evolution. By comparing song dialects over an 8-year span in the black redstarts (Phoenicurus ochruros rufiventris) of Haibei station (37(0)29'N, 101(0)28'E, 3, 200 m a.s.l.) in Menyuan county, Qinghai Province,This study examined the temporal stability of the birds'song dialects. Songs of black redstarts were recorded from mid-April to late May in 2001 by Uher-CR 210 tape recorder with Sony directional microphone and in 2009 by Marantz PMD 670 digital recorder with Sennheiser ME 66 directional microphone. Songs were analyzed by using Avisoft-SASLab pro. The similarity of songs between different years were analyzed by investigating the sonagram, measuring temporal and frequency properties and processing cluster analysis by Spss 10.0 on windows. The results showed that species-specific syllable, typical song forms, and the typical strophe keep high temporal stability. Males investigated from 2001 and 2009 shared the entire strophe or some of the syllables. Males sampled from 2009 have a larger strophe repertoire than that from 2001. The study also indicated that the divergence of shared strophe in 2009 is correlated with distance between territories. The degree of strophe type sharing and song similarity are higher between neighbours than that from more distant males.
