RESUMO

Organic single crystals possess distinct advantages due to their highly ordered molecular structures, resulting in improved stability, enhanced carrier mobility, and superior optical characteristics. However, their mechanical rigidity and brittleness impede the applications in flexible and wearable optoelectronic devices. Here, photoluminescence (PL) emission from 2,6-diphenylanthracene (DPA) single crystals is studied under tensile strain, which shows PL enhancement by more than two times with a strain of ≈1.42%. Such a tension induced PL enhancement is reversible, exhibiting no clear optical degradations during 100 cycles of bending and recovery processes. Theoretical calculations reveal that the deformation of molecular structure under strain induces a decrease of the dihedral between anthracene and benzene moieties in DPA molecules. Further, the increased molecular conjugation enhances the molecular oscillator strength, leading to the brightened PL emission. Meanwhile, with the decreased dihedral, the molecular vibrations in DPA crystals are suppressed, which can reduce the non-radiative decay rate. In contrast, no tension induced PL enhancement is observed in polycrystalline DPA thin films as the strain can be released via the grain boundaries. This study highlights the superior optical performance of DPA single crystals under strain field, which will provide new possibilities for DPA-based flexible devices.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify potential mutation of TRAPPC2 gene in a Chinese family affected with X-linked spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia tarda (X-SEDL), and explore its underlying molecular mechanism. METHODS: Peripheral blood samples were collected from 32 members of the family and 50 healthy adults to extract genomic DNA. DNA sequences of exons 3 to 6 and their exon/intron boundaries were amplified with PCR amplification. Direct bi-directional sequencing analysis was performed on the PCR products. The sequences were aligned to the reference sequences from the GenBank to determine mutation site and type. RESULTS: A nucleotide substitution of the splice-donor in TRAPPC2 intron 3, c.93+5G>A, was detected in the proband, but no sequence change was detected in TRAPPC2 exons 3 to 6. All of the 6 male patients and 8 female carriers from the family were detected to have carried this mutation. The same mutation was not found in the remaining 18 family members with a normal phenotype and 50 healthy controls. CONCLUSION: We have detected a c.93+5G>A mutation in the TRAPPC2 gene in a Chinese family affected with X-SEDL. Our results have expanded the spectrum of TRAPPC2 mutations and is helpful for presymptomatic and prenatal diagnoses of this disease.

RESUMO

The novel Ag nanoparticles/poly(p-phenylene vinylene) [PPV] composite nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning. The transmission electron microscope image shows that the average diameter of composite fibers is about 500 nm and Ag nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed in the PPV matrix with an average diameter of about 25 nm. The Fourier transform infrared spectra suggest that there could be a coordination effect to a certain extent between the Ag atom and the π system of PPV, which is significantly favorable for the dissociation of photoexcitons and the charge transfer at the interface between the Ag nanoparticle and the PPV. The Au top electrode device of the single Ag/PPV composite nanofiber exhibits high and sensitive opto-electronic responses. Under light illumination of 5.76 mW/cm2 and voltage of 20 V, the photocurrent is over three times larger than the dark current under same voltage, which indicates that this kind of composite fiber is an excellent opto-electronic nanomaterial.

RESUMO

To study the effects of growing rice (Oryza sativa L.) leaves under the treatment of the short-term elevated CO(2) during the period of sink-source transition, several physiological processes such as dynamic changes in photosynthesis, photosynthate accumulation, enzyme activities (sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS), and sucrose synthase (SS)), and their specific gene (sps1 and RSus1) expressions in both mature and developing leaf were measured. Rice seedlings with fully expanded sixth leaf (marked as the source leaf, L6) were kept in elevated (700 micromol/mol) and ambient (350 mol/L) CO(2) until the 7th leaf (marked as the sink leaf, L7) fully expanded. The results demonstrated that elevated CO(2) significantly increased the rate of leaf elongation and biomass accumulation of L7 during the treatment without affecting the growth of L6. However, in both developing and mature leaves, net photosynthetic assimilation rate (A), all kinds of photosynthate contents such as starch, sucrose and hexose, activities of SPS and SS and transcript levels of sps1 and RSus1 were significantly increased under elevated CO(2) condition. Results suggested that the elevated CO(2) had facilitated photosynthate assimilation, and increased photosynthate supplies from the source leaf to the sink leaf, which accelerated the growth and sink-source transition in new developing sink leaves. The mechanisms of SPS regulation by the elevated CO(2) was also discussed.
