RESUMO

The present paper investigates the dynamic behaviors of a bubble restricted by two parallel plates near an elliptical wall. The typical experimental phenomena of the bubble are recorded employing the high-speed photography and a theoretical Kelvin impulse model is established. The impacts of the spatial position and the curvature of the wall on the bubble collapse behaviors are quantitatively investigated through the theoretical model and verified against the experimental results. The Kelvin impulse intensity and the direction during the bubble collapse process are compared and discussed for different elliptical-shaped walls. The main conclusions include: (1) During the bubble collapse process, the phenomenon of the bubble uneven splitting is discovered. (2) At different spatial positions and wall curvatures, the bubble collapse jet angle, movement distance, and velocity are in good agreement with the theoretical Kelvin impulse predictions. (3) As the short-to-long axis ratio increases, the differences in the distributions of the Kelvin impulse intensity and the direction near the elliptical wall gradually become larger, and the range of the influence of the impulse intensity expands.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: We report a case of a serious traffic accident injury to the lower leg involving a large skin defect with the long bone exposed. In this situation, the usual intervention is flap transplantation after debridement and infection control by completely covering the wound. Flap transplantation has certain limitations; therefore, we chose the surgical strategy of cortical bone drilling-induced membrane technology (Masquelet technique). CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old healthy man was injured in a car accident and presented to the local hospital with a large skin defect and exposed left lower leg long bone. After transfer to our hospital, the patient underwent repeated debridement and skin graft, a cortex borehole combined with bone cement cover, and ankle fusion. The patient achieved full recovery. CONCLUSION: From our experience in treating this case, we conclude that large skin defects, periosteal stripping, and bone exposure due to physical injury can be successfully treated with cortical perforation and the Masquelet technique so as to avoid flap transplantation. Therefore, this method can be used for large segment bone exposure.

RESUMO

Identifying functional modules in protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks elucidates cellular organization and mechanism. Various methods have been proposed to identify the functional modules in PPI networks, but most of these methods do not consider the noisy links in PPI networks. They achieve a competitive performance on the PPI networks without noisy links, but the performance of these methods considerably deteriorates in the noisy PPI networks. Furthermore, the noisy links are inevitable in the PPI networks. In this paper, we propose a novel link-driven label propagation algorithm (LLPA) to identify functional modules in PPI networks. The LLPA first find link clusters in PPI networks, and then the functional modules are identified from the link clusters. Two strategies aimed to ensure the robustness of LLPA are proposed. One strategy involves the proposed LLPA updating the link labels in accordance with the designed weight of the link, which can reduce the incidence of noisy links. The other strategy involves the filtration of some noisy labels from the link clusters to further reduce the influence of noisy links. The performance evaluation on three real PPI networks shows that LLPA outperforms other eight state-of-the-art detection algorithms in terms of accuracy and robustness.
