RESUMO

At present, traditional music therapy based on "white noise" is commonly used to treat tinnitus patients. This study aims to apply "pink noise", which has a more balanced frequency distribution than white noise, to the field of tinnitus rehabilitation treatment to study its inhibitory effect on tinnitus. Fractal technology (fractal mathematics) was used to generate semi-repetitive tones as the basic tone of music therapy. This clinical study recruited 43 adult tinnitus patients with varying degrees of hearing loss as the study subjects. All patients received fractal music therapy with hearing aids. The study evaluated the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) of patients' usage and tested the indicators with paired sample T-tests. The results indicate that "pink noise" is effective in the treatment of tinnitus, and the differences in the scores are statistically significant before and after treatment (P<0.05). In addition, by comparing the tone spectra of "white noise" and "pink noise", we found that the frequency component power of "pink noise" is mainly concentrated in the middle and low frequency range. Its slope is -3 dB/Oct, which means that the frequency decays downwards as the ratio increases. In this study, a tinnitus music therapy based on the "pink noise" tone was developed, which mainly solved the awkward problem of no specific drugs or special tinnitus treatment equipment. At the same time, it helps to accelerate the development of related medical devices and improve the quality of life of tinnitus patients.

RESUMO

This study attempts to explore the function and mechanism of action of rosavin in small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) in vitro. The viability and clone formation of SCLC cells were assessed using cell counting kit-8 and colony formation assays, respectively. Apoptosis and cell cycle were detected using flow cytometry and cell cycle analysis, respectively. Wound healing and transwell assays were performed to evaluate the migration and invasion of SCLC cells. Besides, protein levels of p-ERK, ERK, p-MEK and MEK were determined using Western blot analysis. Rosavin repressed the viability and clone formation of SCLC cells, and promoted apoptosis and G0/G1 arrest of SCLC cells. At the same time, rosavin suppressed migration and invasion of SCLC cells. Moreover, protein levels of p-ERK/ERK and p-MEK/MEK were decreased after rosavin addition in SCLC cells. Rosavin impaired malignant behaviors of SCLC cells, which may be associated with inhibition of the MAPK/ERK pathway in vitro.

RESUMO

To explore the significance of the analysis of pathological characteristics of breast cancer and the detection of myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC) levels in peripheral blood for the evaluation of biological characteristics. 138 breast cancer patients were enrolled as the research group, while 138 patients with benign breast diseases were included as the control group. All patients underwent pathological analysis and detection of peripheral blood MDSCs levels, progesterone receptor (PR), estrogen receptor (ER), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2), and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (Ki-67). A factorial study of stage I, II, and III breast cancer patients showed significant differences in clinicopathological characteristics, including age, tumor size, lymph node metastases, histological grading, Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) score, pathological type, and family history (P < 0.05). The research group had higher levels of peripheral blood MDSCs and different cell surface markers compared to the control group (P<0.05). Positive expression of biological molecules in breast cancer, such as PR, ER, HER-2, and Ki-67, had significant differences based on lymph node metastasis and tumor size (P < 0.05). The quality of survival scores was higher in stages I and II compared to stage III (P < 0.05). Age, recurrence, metastasis, and other pathological characteristics of breast cancer have a direct impact on clinical outcomes and survival rates. Peripheral blood levels of MDSCs and other cell surface markers are significantly elevated, serving as a crucial benchmark for the subsequent evaluation of breast cancer progression.

RESUMO

Microbial activity has gained attention because of its impact on the environment and the quality of people's lives. Most of today's methods, which include genome sequencing and electrochemistry, are costly and difficult to manage. Our group proposed a method using the redox potential change to detect microbial activity, which is rooted in the concept that metabolic activity can change the redox potential of a microbial community. The redox potential change was captured by a biosensor consisting of porous boron nitride, ATP-DNA aptamer, and methylene blue as the fluorophore. This assembly can switch on or off when there is a redox potential change, and this change leads to a fluorescence change that can be examined using a multipurpose microplate reader. The results show that this biosensor can detect microbial community changes when its composition is changed or toxic metals are ingested.

RESUMO

Atherosclerosis is a complicated process comprising inflammation, accumulation of collagen matrix and aberrant DNA methylation. SMAD7 is known to play an important role in fibrosis and inflammation. In recent years, increasing research has concentrated on the connection between DNA methylation and atherosclerosis. The current study was designed to investigate methylation status of some specific gene with a focus on SMAD7 in atherosclerosis and elucidate their relationship. We found that SMAD7 expression was decreased and its promoter region was markedly methylated in atherosclerotic plaques when compared with normal artery walls. Using MALDI-TOF MS, increased DNA methylation levels of SMAD7 promoter at CpG unit 5.8.15.16 were found in peripheral blood of atherosclerosis patients relative to matched normal controls, respectively. Correlation analysis revealed that mean DNA methylation levels of SMAD7 promoter of CpG unit 5.8.15.16 were positively associated with homocysteine levels (r = 0.724, p < .001) and carotid plaque scores(r = 0.790, p < .001). SMAD7 promoter is hyper-methylated both in human atherosclerotic plaques and atherosclerosis patients, which is positively associated with homocysteine levels and carotid plaque scores. Thus, methylated SMAD7 may be a novel predicted marker and therapeutics target for atherosclerosis.
