RESUMO

The quality of red blood cells (RBCs) in stored blood has a direct impact on the recovery of patients treated by blood transfusion, which directly reflects the quality of blood. The traditional means for blood quality evaluation involve the use of reagents and multi-step and time-consuming operations. Here, a low-cost, multi-classification, label-free and high-precision method is developed, which combines microfluidic technology and a deep learning algorithm together to recognize and classify RBCs based on morphology. The microfluidic channel is designed to effectively and controllably solve the problem of cell overlap, which has a severe negative impact on the identification of cells. The object detection model in the deep learning algorithm is optimized and used to recognize multiple RBCs simultaneously in the whole field of view, so as to classify them into six morphological subcategories and count the numbers in each subgroup. The mean average precision of the developed object detection model reaches 89.24%. The blood quality can be evaluated by calculating the morphology index (MI) according to the numbers of cells in subgroups. The validation of the method is verified by evaluating three blood samples stored for 7 days, 21 days and 42 days, which have MIs of 84.53%, 73.33% and 24.34%, respectively, indicating good agreement with the actual blood quality. This method has the merits of cell identification in a wide channel, no need for single cell alignment as the image cytometry does and it is not only applicable to the quality evaluation of RBCs, but can also be used for general cell identifications with different morphologies.

RESUMO

This study used a structural equation modeling approach to investigate the relationships among L2 writing anxiety, L2 writing self-efficacy, L2 writing self-regulated strategies and L2 writing engagement, and possible mediators that regulate the effect of individual factors. A questionnaire was administered to 340 Chinese high school students from different parts of the country. The results of the study suggested a negative relationship between L2 writing anxiety and L2 writing self-efficacy, and a direct effect of both on L2 writing engagement. While a higher level of L2 writing self-efficacy indicated a lower level of L2 writing anxiety and more students' L2 writing engagement, L2 writing efficacy had a much stronger direct effect on L2 writing engagement than L2 writing anxiety. In addition, L2 writing self-regulated strategies were found to play a mediating role between L2 writing self-efficacy and L2 writing engagement, but not between L2 writing anxiety and L2 writing engagement. This study helps to understand the interplay of individual factors related to L2 writing and sheds light on promoting English writing abilities of Chinese high school students.

RESUMO

The current study seeks to validate L2 grit measure among 637 Chinese senior middle school students using a bifactor modeling approach. To do so, we first assessed and compared four alternative measurement models including CFA, bifactor CFA, ESEM, and bifactor ESEM models. Among these models, CFA exhibited the poorest fit to the data collected from the sample. ESEM showed partial fit to the data with a slightly lower factor correlation between two components of L2 grit (i.e., perseverance of effort and consistency of interest) than CFA. Two bifactor models (bifactor CFA and bifactor ESEM) demonstrated excellent fits to the data. The more parsimonious bifactor CFA model was selected as the optimal one. Based on the bifactor CFA model, we confirmed measurement invariance across gender and predictive validity of L2 grit on subsequent language achievements. Based on these findings, methodological and pedagogical implications were discussed.

RESUMO

The relationship between grit and success has been investigated extensively in various contexts. However, the association between grit and language performance, especially in a Chinese high school context, remains underexplored. This study investigates grit, the positive emotion of enjoyment, the negative emotion of anxiety, foreign language performance, and how enjoyment and anxiety mediate the relationship between grit and foreign language performance. A questionnaire was administered to 697 Chinese high school students, followed by a language test after 2 weeks. The results showed that more than half of the students had a moderate-high level of grit and foreign language enjoyment and that nearly half of them experienced a low-moderate level of foreign language anxiety. It was also found that grit, foreign language enjoyment, and foreign language performance were positively correlated with each other, and all three variables were negatively correlated with anxiety. Both foreign language enjoyment and foreign language anxiety mediated the relationship between grit and foreign language performance to a significant degree, and the mediating effect of foreign language anxiety was stronger than that of foreign language enjoyment.

RESUMO

This study investigated the associations between university teachers' emotional job demands, teaching support, and well-being, and examined the mediating effect of emotional regulation strategies (i.e., reappraisal and suppression) in the job demands-resources (JD-R) model. The results of a survey of 643 university teachers in mainland China indicated that emotional job demands and teaching support, which facilitated teachers' use of reappraisal strategies, had desirable effects on their well-being. Reappraisal was beneficial to teachers' well-being, and suppression was harmful. These findings support the mediation role of emotional regulation, and evidence the applicability of the JD-R model to a higher education context.

RESUMO

A copolymer of divinylbenzene and N-vinyl pyrrolidone (DVB-NVP) was synthesized for the purpose of solid phase extraction (SPE). Its performance as an SPE resin was evaluated using six model compounds having different polarities. Aqueous samples containing those compounds were applied to SPE cartridges containing the aforementioned copolymer as well as the classic C18 and Oasis HLB for comparison, and the SPE processed samples were analyzed by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for quantitation. Then, the copolymer DVB-NVP was sulfonated to modify the surface properties. The surface modified materials were used to analyse complex samples. The results showed that DVB-NVP had high recoveries for the six compounds ranging from 95.55% to 101.08% which were better than those of the C18 and were comparable to those of Oasis HLB. In applying to real samples, the recoveries for dimethyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate and dibutyl phthalate in liquor were 102.55%, 102.99% and 102.11%, with the RSDs of 2.11%, 1.69%, 0.79% respectively. Similarly, the recoveries for clonidine and cyproheptadine in pork were 89.23% and 91.42% with the RSDs of 8.21% and 8.86%, respectively.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the anatomy of mandibular bone flap pedicled with temporal muscle for midfacial bone defects. METHODS: The shape and blood supply of the temporal muscle and mandibular ramus, as well as their relationship, were observed and measured in 30 sides of adult head specimens. RESULTS: The temporal muscle has a fan-shaped main portion, then is scattered into three bundles as anterolateral, anteromedial, posterior bundles, which end respectively at anterior border of ramus, the temporal ridge and posterior portion of coronoid process. Then the muscle goes downward until it reaches the distal side of the third medial surface molar and attaches the 3/4 of medial surface of anterior portion of ramus. The blood supply of temporal muscle includes the medial temporal artery with external diameter of (0.76 +/- 0.20) mm, the anterior deep temporal arteries with external diameter of (0.79 +/- 0.21) mm, posterior deep temporal arteries with external diameter of (0.98 +/- 0.64) mm, the accessory deep temporal artery formed by many little branches. The anterior part of ramus is supplied by the periosteal arteries and the bony perforator of the deep temporal arteries. Rectangular ramus of mandible was divided into anterior portion and posterior portion by the line linking the lowest point of mandibular notch, mandibular foramen and mandibular canal. Anterior portion can supply a bone flap with a size of (46.67 +/- 6.85) mm x (17.98 +/- 2.64) mm x (11.49 +/- 0.99) mm. CONCLUSIONS: The mandibular bone flap pedicled with temporal muscle has a reliable blood supply and abundant bone volume. It is feasible to design a mandibular bone flap pedicled with temporal muscle for midfacial bone defect.
