OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic effect of scalp acupuncture and rehabilitation training on balance dysfunction in children with spasmodic hemiplegia so as to provide the reference to the optimization of treatment scheme. METHODS: A total of 60 children with spastic hemiplegia were divided into a routine group and a scalp acupuncture group, 30 cases in each one according to random number table. In the routine group, the rehabilitation training was provided, including exercise training, balance training, spasmotherapy apparatus, electromyography biofeedback apparatus and orthoses. In the scalp acupuncture group, on the base of the treatment as the routine group, scalp acupuncture was supplemented at motor area, foot motor sensory area, equilibrium area and parietal temporal anterior oblique line. Separately, before the treatment, after 3 months treatment and after 6 months treatment, the dimension D and E of the gross motor function measure-88 (GMFM-88) and Berg balance scale (BBS) were adopted to evaluate balance related motor functions and equilibrium function. The differences in the above 3 indicators at different time stages were compared in children between the two groups. RESULTS: Compared with the score before the treatment, BBS score was obviously increased after 3 and 6 months treatment in the patients of the two groups respectively (P<0.05). The score in the dimension D and E after 6-month treatment was increased significantly as compared with the score before treatment and after 3-month treatment in the same group respectively (P<0.05). Compared with the routine group, the score of dimension D and E of GMFM-88 as well as BBS score were all increased obviously in the scalp acupuncture group after 3 and 6 months treatment (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: On the base of routine rehabilitation training, scalp acupuncture can improve balance function of children with spastic hemiplegia better.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Baixiao moxibustion at meridian sinew nodal points combined with routine rehabilitation on upper limb motor function in children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy. METHODS: A total of 50 children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy were divided into control group and treatment group using a random number table, with 25 children in each group. The children in the control group were given routine rehabilitation training of the ipsilateral upper and lower limbs, and those in the treatment group were given Baixiao moxibustion at the meridian sinew nodal points of the ipsilateral upper limb in addition to the treatment in the control group, once a day and five times a week. Each course of treatment was 4 consecutive weeks, and both groups were treated for 3 courses. Before treatment and at weeks 4 and 12 of treatment, modified Ashworth score was used to evaluate muscle tension of the ipsilateral upper limb, and 88-item version of the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM-88) and Carroll upper extremities functional test (UEFT) were used to assess the motor function of the ipsilateral upper limb. RESULTS: At weeks 4 and 12 of treatment, both groups had a significant reduction in modified Ashworth score (P<0.05) and significant increases in GMFM-88 and UEFT scores (P<0.05). Both groups had significant changes in modified Ashworth score, GMFM-88 score, and UEFT score from week 4 to week 12 of treatment (P<0.05). Compared with the control group at week 12 of treatment, the treatment group had a significant reduction in modified Ashworth score (P<0.05) and significant increases in GMFM-88 and UEFT scores (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Baixiao moxibustion at meridian sinew nodal points can significantly improve the muscle tension and motor function of the ipsilateral upper limb in children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy, and the improvement becomes more apparent as the treatment lasts longer.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a prevalent class of blood disease with a high occurrence rate and relapse rate. The role of dysregulated microRNAs (miRNAs) in AML is emerging. MiR-4260 was identified to be a carcinogenic miRNA in colorectal cancer, but never has it been reported in AML. We aimed to study the function and mechanism of miR-4260 in AML. The miR-4260 level was higher in AML cell lines than the normal cell lines. Inhibition of miR-4260 hindered proliferation and increased apoptosis of AML cells. Mechanistically, long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1128 (LINC01128) competed with nuclear receptor subfamily 3 group C member 2 (NR3C2) for miR-4260 so as to upregulate NR3C2. We identified the reduced levels of LINC01128 and NR3C2 in AML and it was suggested through rescue assays that LINC01128 repressed AML progression through regulating miR-4260/NR3C2 axis. In conclusion, we firstly uncovered that LINC01128 resisted acute myeloid leukemia through regulating miR-4260/NR3C2, providing novel clues for the treatment improvement of AML.

BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) function as post-transcriptional gene expression regulators. Some miRNAs, including the recently discovered miR-582-3p, have been implicated in leukemogenesis. This study aimed to reveal the biological function of miR-582-3p in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), which is one of the most frequently diagnosed hematological malignancies. METHODS: The expression of miR-582-3p was determined using quantitative real-time PCR in blood samples from leukemia patients and in cell lines. Cell proliferation and cell cycle distribution were analyzed using the CCK-8, colony formation and flow cytometry assays. The target gene of miR-582-3p was verified using a dual-luciferase reporter assay. The G2/M phase arrest-related molecule contents were measured using western blotting analysis. RESULTS: We found miR-582-3p was significantly downregulated in the blood samples from leukemia patients and in the cell lines. MiR-582-3p overexpression significantly impaired cell proliferation and induced G2/M cell cycle arrest in THP-1 cells. Furthermore, cyclin B2 (CCNB2) was confirmed as a target gene of miR-582-3p and found to be negatively regulated by miR-582-3p overexpression. More importantly, CCNB2 knockdown showed suppressive effects on cell proliferation and cell cycle progression similar to those caused by miR-582-3p overexpression. The inhibitory effects of miR-582-3p overexpression on cell proliferation and cell cycle progression were abrogated by CCNB2 transfection. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate new functions and mechanisms for miR-582-3p in AML development. Further study could clarify if miR-582-3p and CCNB2 are potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of AML.

OBJECTIVE: To assess therapeutic effect of combined treatment of Chinese medicine and western medicine on optic atrophy complicated by cerebral palsy. METHODS: One hundred and seventeen cases were divided into an observation group (n = 79) and a control group (n = 38). The control group were treated with routine western medicine treatment including neurotrophic drugs and high pressure oxygen, etc. and the observation group with acupuncture at Ganshu (BL 18), Pishu (BL 20), Chengqi (ST 1), etc. and injection of 0.2-0.3 mL Compound Danshen Injectio into Qiuhou (EX-HN 7), on the basis of the same treatment of western medicine as that in the control group. Fundus examination and the tracing body angle detection were conducted before and after treatment and the therapeutic effects were assessed in the two groups. RESULTS: The total effective rate was 91.1% in the observation group and 60.5% in the control group with a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.001); after treatment the angle of tracing body significantly increased in the two groups (P < 0.01) with the observation group better than the control group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The combined treatment of Chinese medicine and western medicine is an effective therapy for optic atrophy complicated by cerebral palsy.
