RESUMO

This study aimed to summarize the current developments and hub genes in the ferroptosis field using bibliometrics and bioinformatics and provide guidance for future developments. The publications on ferroptosis from 2012 to 2021 were extracted from the Web of Science database. VOSviewer software and CiteSpace software were used to visualize and predict the trend of ferroptosis research. The key genes related to ferroptosis were selected from the Web of Genecards, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG)/Gene Ontology (GO) analysis was performed. Cytoscape software and online survival curve analysis platform were also used to screen hub genes and analyze their roles. Chinese researchers published the highest number of publications in this field, while American publications exhibited higher quality. In terms of institutions, Central South University and Zhejiang University have the highest number of publications. Cell Death Disease published more studies than other journals. The application of ferroptosis is a major research area, and, importantly, "RCD", "FTH1", and "nomogram" are the keywords. We also found tumor-related pathways of interest in the field of ferroptosis. Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3), Glutathione Peroxidase 4 (GPX4), and transferrin receptor (TFRC) genes were of significance for the prognosis of tumors. The number of publications on ferroptosis may increase in the future. Cooperation among countries and disciplines is particularly important in this regard. Also, the applications of ferroptosis, especially in chemotherapy and immunotherapy for tumors, will be the focus of future research. Keywords "RCD", "FTH1", and "nomogram" is receiving high attention, and in-depth studies on tumor-related genes SIRT3, GPX4, and TFRC may provide new therapeutic targets.

Background: Military personnel are widely exposed to risk factors for heat-related illnesses. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) are three of the most important means by which to prevent such illnesses, but there has been a lack of investigations into and correlation analyses of KAP. This study aimed to explore the heat-related KAP of military personnel in China. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study (June 1-25, 2019). A total of 646 military personnel were recruited from two Chinese Navy troops in the tropical zone and one troop in the temperate zone. We collected data on demographic characteristics and KAP scores using questionnaires. Univariate analysis and Scheffe's method were used for data analyses. Results: The mean KAP scores were 10.37 (range = 3-13, standard deviation = 1.63) for knowledge (K-score), 7.76 (range = 0-16, SD = 2.65) for attitudes (A-score), and 3.80 (range = 1-6, SD = 1.12) for practices (P-score). There were noticeable differences in mean K-score according to age, military rank, and educational level (P < 0.05). Participants from the tropical zone had higher A-scores (P < 0.05) and higher P-scores (P < 0.001) than those from the temperate zone. Additionally, participants with relevant experience also had higher A-scores (P < 0.05) than those without such experience. Conclusions: Military personnel's awareness of preventive and first-aid measures against heat-related illnesses need to be strengthened. It will be very important to develop educational programmes and enrich systematic educational resources to raise this awareness.

OBJECTIVES: Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) is generally applied by self-aid or buddy-aid for exsanguinating extremity hemorrhage. The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy, time and effectiveness between self-aid and buddy aid in ordinary and simulated scenarios. METHODS: A total of 64 undergraduates from the Red Cross Commando of a military medical university participated in this study, which involved ordinary and simulated scenarios. In each scenario, every participant completed tourniquet application to upper and lower extremities by self-aid and buddy-aid, respectively. Measures of time, accuracy and effectiveness were assessed by an examiner identically after each application. RESULTS: Compared with the performance of CAT application by buddy-aid, the time of application to upper extremities by self-aid increased by 8.39 s (P<0.001) and 3.24 s to lower extremities (P<0.05), and the percentage of pulse elimination by self-aid declined by 13.29% and 10.93% to both upper and lower extremities, respectively (P<0.05). Simulated combat performance showed longer time and lower accuracy (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The hypothesized different performances between self-aid and buddy-aid, as well as between ordinary and simulated scenarios were verified in this study, indicating the need for superior tourniquet design for self-aid and rigorous deployment readiness training, especially for self-aid in tourniquet application.

BACKGROUND: Heat stroke (HS) is an acute physical disorder that is associated with a high risk of organ dysfunction and even death. HS patients are usually treated symptomatically and conservatively; however, there remains a lack of specific and effective drugs in clinical practice. An analysis of publication contributions from institutions, journals and authors in different countries/regions was used to study research progress and trends regarding HS. METHODS: We extracted all relevant publications on HS between 1989 and 2019 from Web of Science. Using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS, version 24) and the software GraphPad Prism 8, graphs were generated and statistical analyses were performed, while VOSviewer software was employed to visualize the research trends in HS from the perspectives of co-occurring keywords. RESULTS: As of April 14, 2020, we identified 1443 publications with a citation frequency of 5216. The United States accounted for the largest number of publications (36.2%) and the highest number of citations (14,410), as well as the highest H-index at 74. Although the sum of publications from China ranked second, there was a contradiction between the quantity and quality of publications. Furthermore, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise published the most papers related to HS, with Lin MT publishing the most papers in this field (112), while the review by Knochel JP received the highest citation frequency at 969. The keyword heat-stress appeared most recently, with an average appearing year of 2015.5. In the clinical research cluster, exertional heat-stroke was determined to be the hotspot, while ambient-temperature and heat waves were the new trends in the epidemiological research cluster. CONCLUSIONS: Corresponding to this important field, while the contributions of the publications from the United States were significant, the mismatch between the quantity and quality of publications from China must be examined. Moreover, it is hypothesized that clinical and epidemiological studies may become hotspots in the near future.

BACKGROUND: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a common disease that usually progresses to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with high morbidity and mortality. We aim to analyze the trends in ALI/ARDS, and to compare the differences in aspects of years, countries, institutions, journals, etc. Methods: We screened all relevant literature on ALI/ARDS from Web of Science during 2009-2019, and analyzed the research trends in this field by VOSviewer. RESULTS: We had screened 7,890 publications with a total cited frequency of 164,713. The United States contributed the largest number of publications (2,612, 33.11%), cited frequency (81,376, 48.61%), and the highest H-index (107). Journal of Critical Care Medicine published the largest number of literatures on ALI/ARDS, MATTHAY MA published the majority of articles in this field (147), while SLUTSKY AS received the most cited frequency (10015). University of California San Francisco had the largest number of publications (243, 3.08%) among all full-time institutions. In the aspect of clinical research in ALI/ARDS, the keyword "Berlin definition" emerged in recent years, with an average year of 2016.3; in the basic research, the key word "protects" appeared latest, and the average years were 2016.5. The current research trend indicates that basic research is gradually transforming into clinical research. CONCLUSIONS: The United States have made the most significant contribution to the ALI/ARDS field in the last decade. The current research 'hotspot' mainly appeared in clinical research, such as "Berlin definition". In regards to basic research, studies tend to explore the protective mechanisms against ALI/ARDS.

Uncontrolled bleeding, such as deep, narrow or irregular wound hemorrhage, has been a major cause of death in peacetime and wartime. Besides, traditional hemostatic agents are lack of antibacterial properties, which could not provide effective protection on open wound. In this paper, a novel antibacterial hemostatic agent composed of mesostructured cellular silica foams (MCF) decorated with silver ions (MCF-Ag) was synthesized by hydrothermal method. Hemorrhage wound infected with Escherichia coli was applied to evaluate its antibacterial and hemostatic performance both in vitro and in vivo. Both MCF and MCF-Ag showed excellent hemostasis in vitro and in vivo. The MCF-Ag demonstrated significant antibacterial effect. By contrast, no obvious antibacterial effect was observed from the MCF. The above results demonstrate that the MCF-Ag is an excellent antibacterial hemostatic agent with splendid water absorption and antibacterial capacity.
