RESUMO

In this paper, a polarization modulated metasurface to improve the magnitude and expand the bandwidth of radar cross section (RCS) reduction is presented. Two physical mechanisms are responsible for the reflection diffusion of the proposed metasurface. One is the functionality of controlling the spatial distribution of polarization response, and the other is the capability of spanning the entire 2π phase range by making full use of the variable sizes and height difference of unit cells to achieve superwideband phase cancellation. A 10 dB monostatic RCS reduction is obtained from 3.87 to 92.89 GHz (a ratio bandwidth of 24:1) for both polarizations under normal incidence by simulation, which is identical to experimental results and theoretical analysis. The proposed method for suppressing vector fields in an extremely wide band may hold promising potentials for suppression of acoustic, electromagnetic, optical and other elastic waves.

RESUMO

Acute mesenteric ischaemia is divided into different clinical entities which are usually considered separately. Here we report a case of acute mesenteric ischaemia complicated with acute anterior myocardial infarction. The clinical picture suggested that non-occlusive mesenteric ischaemia and acute mesenteric arterial thrombosis were both present in this case. Thus, non-occlusive and occlusive ischaemia may coexist in a coordinated and perceptible pattern.

RESUMO

High dosage of expensive Pt to catalyze the sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on the cathode severely impedes the commercialization of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Therefore, it is urgent to cut down the Pt catalyst by efficiently improving the ORR activity while maintaining high durability. Herein, magic concave Pt-Zn nanocubes with high-index faceted Pt skin (Pt78 Zn22 ) are proposed for high-efficiency catalysis toward proton exchange membrane fuel cells. These unique structural features endow the Pt-skin Pt78 Zn22 /KB with a mass activity of 1.18 mA µgPt -1 and a specific activity of 3.64 mA cm-2 for the ORR at 0.9 V (vs RHE). Meanwhile, the H2 -O2 fuel cell assembled by this catalyst delivers an ultrahigh peak power density of ≈1449 mW cm-2 . Both experiments and theoretical calculations show that the electronic structure of the surface is adjusted, thereby shortening the length of the Pt-Pt bond and reducing the adsorption energy of OH*/O* on the Pt surface. This work demonstrates the synergistic effect of the oxidation-resistant metal Zn and the construction of Pt-rich surface engineering. Also, it guides the future development of catalysts for their practical applications in energy conversion technologies and beyond.

RESUMO

Understanding the relationship between the electronic state of active sites and N2 reduction reaction (NRR) performance is essential to explore efficient electrocatalysts. Herein, atomically dispersed Fe and Mo sites are designed and achieved in the form of well-defined FeN4 and MoN4 coordination in polyphthalocyanine (PPc) organic framework to investigate the influence of the spin state of FeN4 on NRR behavior. The neighboring MoN4 can regulate the spin state of Fe center in FeN4 from high-spin (dxy 2 dyz 1 dxz 1 d z 2 1 d x 2 - y 2 1 ) to medium-spin (dxy 2 dyz 2 dxz 1 d z 2 1 ), where the empty d orbitals and separate d electron favor the overlap of Fe 3d with the N 2p orbitals, more effectively activating N≡N triple bond. Theoretical modeling suggests that the NRR preferably takes place on FeN4 instead of MoN4 , and the transition of Fe spin state significantly lowers the energy barrier of the potential determining step, which is conducive to the first hydrogenation of N2 . As a result, FeMoPPc with medium-spin FeN4 exhibits 2.0 and 9.0 times higher Faradaic efficiency and 2.0 and 17.2 times higher NH3 yields for NRR than FePPc with high-spin FeN4 and MoPPc with MoN4 , respectively. These new insights may open up opportunities for exploiting efficient NRR electrocatalysts by atomically regulating the spin state of metal centers.

RESUMO

Visible and near-infrared reflectance (VNIR) spectroscopy is considered to be a potential and efficient means for monitoring soil arsenic (As) contamination. While current studies mainly focus on the evaluation of models' performance when training and verification samples are collected from the same region, whether the model developed at a specific region can be transferred to other regions is still unclear. To answer this question, this study collected a total of 247 samples for training and verification from regions with different geographical conditions, which are Yuanping and Baoding in northern China, Chenzhou and Hengyang in southern China. Afterward, we proposed a transfer component analysis (TCA) based spectroscopic diagnosis model, which aims at adapting a model learned from one region to other regions. This model was compared with the traditional modeling method in terms of the prediction accuracy by four experiments. The results show that: (1) The traditional modeling method trained by specific regional samples has no transfer capability to different regions, since the coefficient of determination (R2) and the ratio of prediction to deviation (RPD) were 0.02 and 0.65 for the first pair of study areas, 0.01 and 1.01 for the second pair of study areas; (2) A transfer model with favorable predictability can be constructed with the aid of TCA spectral transformation and a small amount off-site samples (R2 and RPD were improved to 0.68 and 1.54 for the first pair of study areas, 0.64 and 1.66 for the second pair of study areas). Results suggest that it is promising to develop potential implementations of transferable spectroscopic diagnosis models for estimating soil As concentrations in large area with lower cost.

RESUMO

Nuclear protein in testis (NUT) midline carcinoma (NMC) is a rare malignant tumor defined by a unique chromosomal translocation of the NUT gene on chromosome 15q14. This very rare tumor is usually located in midline structures, especially in the head and neck region. However, there have been no previous reports of NMC arising from the eyes. Here, we first describe a case of NMC originating in the right orbit of a 60-year-old woman. A multimodality approach, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and target therapy, was adopted in clinical practice.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The water-level fluctuation in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region has changed dramatically as a result of the hydroelectric project for flood control and power generation. The riparian seasonal hydrological environment also has changed from summer flooding with winter drought to summer drought with winter flooding. The changes of riparian seed bank and vegetation were investigated to determine the effects of the seasonal flooding on the composition and spatial distribution of riparian soil seed bank and the similarity of seed bank to standing vegetation. CASE DESCRIPTION: We conducted intensive riparian soil sampling (525 samples) along altitude gradient in the Shanmu River, a tributary of the Yangzi River in the reservoir region of China. Seed bank density, species richness and composition of soil seed bank were examined using the seedling-emergence method. The seasonal hydrological conditions resulted in a decrease in species diversity and an increase in the distribution heterogeneity of the soil seed bank. The soil seed bank was composed of 48 species from 22 families and 40 genera. Most species were annual and perennial herbaceous Polygonaceae, Asteraceae, and Poaceae. Rumex dentatus was the predominant species accounting for 27.0 % of the total seeds. Diversity and composition of the seed bank changed along an altitude gradient and soil depth. Maximum species richness was found in the top soil layer at 165 m and 175 m above sea level. The mean overall seed density of the soil seed bank was 13,475.3 ind m(-2). Density and the number of seeds increased initially and then decreased with increased altitude. Maximum seed density (22,500.2 ind m(-2)) was found at 165 m above sea level in the intermediately flooded riverbank, with the seed number accounting for 27.8 % of the total soil seed bank. Average seed density declined significantly with soil depth. The similarity of seed bank to standing vegetation was relatively high. DISCUSSION AND EVALUATION: The environmental heterogeneity created by the wide range and seasonal flooding led to the changes in biodiversity and seed density along altitude gradient. The seasonal flooding also led to the increase in the similarity of seed bank to standing vegetation as their composition both degraded. CONCLUSIONS: The seasonal flooding due to the dam reshape the composition and spatial distribution of riparian soil seed bank and limit the vegetation to a grassland dominated by a few annuals and perennials in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region.

RESUMO

Four experiments tested the novel hypothesis that ritualistic behavior potentiates and enhances ensuing consumption--an effect found for chocolates, lemonade, and even carrots. Experiment 1 showed that participants who engaged in ritualized behavior, compared with those who did not, evaluated chocolate as more flavorful, valuable, and deserving of behavioral savoring. Experiment 2 demonstrated that random gestures do not boost consumption as much as ritualistic gestures do. It further showed that a delay between a ritual and the opportunity to consume heightens enjoyment, which attests to the idea that ritual behavior stimulates goal-directed action (to consume). Experiment 3 found that performing a ritual oneself enhances consumption more than watching someone else perform the same ritual, suggesting that personal involvement is crucial for the benefits of rituals to emerge. Finally, Experiment 4 provided direct evidence of the underlying process: Rituals enhance the enjoyment of consumption because of the greater involvement in the experience that they prompt.
