RESUMO

Prior studies have shown that experts possess an excellent ability for action anticipation. However, it is not clear how experts process the discrepancies between predicted outcomes and actual outcomes. Based on Bayesian theory, Experiment 1 in the current study explored this question by categorizing unexpected outcomes into gradually increasing discrepancies and comparing the performance of experts and novices on a congruence discrimination task. Our behavioral analysis revealed that experts outperformed novices significantly in detecting these discrepancies. The following electroencephalogram study in Experiment 2 was conducted focused exclusively on experts to examine the role of theta wave oscillations within the mid-frontal cortex in processing varying levels of discrepancy. The results showed that reaction time and theta oscillations gradually increased as the magnitude of discrepancy increased. These findings indicate that compared to the novices, experts have a better ability to perceptual the discrepancy. Also, the magnitude of discrepancies induced an increase in mid-frontal theta in experts, providing greater flexibility in their response strategies.

RESUMO

In nature, plants are colonized by various microbes that play essential roles in their growth and health. Heterosis is a natural genetic phenomenon whereby first-generation hybrids exhibit superior phenotypic performance relative to their parents. It remains unclear whether this concept can be extended to the "hybridization" of microbiota from two parents in their descendants and what benefits the hybrid microbiota might convey. Here, we investigated the structure and function of the root microbiota from three hybrid rice varieties and their parents through amplicon sequencing analysis of bacterial 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) and fungal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions. We show that the bacterial and fungal root microbiota of the varieties are distinct from those of their parental lines and exhibit potential heterosis features in diversity and composition. Moreover, the root bacterial microbiota of hybrid variety LYP9 protects rice against soil-borne fungal pathogens. Systematic analysis of the protective capabilities of individual strains from a 30-member bacterial synthetic community derived from LYP9 roots indicated that community members have additive protective roles. Global transcription profiling analyses suggested that LYP9 root bacterial microbiota activate rice reactive oxygen species production and cell wall biogenesis, contributing to heterosis for protection. In addition, we demonstrate that the protection conferred by the LYP9 root microbiota is transferable to neighboring plants, potentially explaining the observed hybrid-mediated superior effects of mixed planting. Our findings suggest that some hybrids exhibit heterosis in their microbiota composition that promotes plant health, highlighting the potential for microbiota heterosis in breeding hybrid crops.

RESUMO

AIM: The aim of this study is to explore the cognition and practice on transitional care during the transfer from intensive care unit to a general ward among health care professionals in China. BACKGROUND: Due to the significant differences in the medical and humanistic environment at home and abroad, the safety of patients during the transmission from intensive care unit to the general ward is often ignored when their conditions become stable. There are few qualitative studies on the cognition and practice on transitional care during the transfer from intensive care unit to the ward among health care professionals in China. METHODS: With a qualitative research design, 20 medical and nursing staff in the neurosurgery intensive care unit and ward were interviewed from May 2021 to August 2021. NVivo 11.0 software was utilized for Colaizzi's (1978) method of data analysis. RESULTS: Based on data analysis, perceptions of transitional care, the influencing factors for transitional care and the recommendations for improving transitional care were obtained. CONCLUSION: To ensure the continuity of care and improve patient safety during the period from intensive care unit to a general ward in China, we should clarify the expectation for the content of intensive care unit transitional care services, establish the transitional nursing team, guide nursing work, standardize the handover mode and process from intensive care unit to the general ward, promote the communication and coordination of health care professionals and improve the transitional nursing security system from the perspective of institutional level. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: This study can be used as a guide to help health care professionals provide a reference for the comprehensive development of transitional care services and the formulation of targeted intervention measures during the transfer from intensive care unit to a general ward in China.

RESUMO

Due to the remarkable anti-tumor activities of oridonin (Ori), research on Rabdosia rubescens has attracted more and more attention in the pharmaceutical field. The purpose of this study was to extract Ori from R. rubescens by ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and prepare Ori liposomes as a novel delivery system to improve the bioavailability and biocompatibility. Response surface methodology (RSM), namely Box-Behnken design (BBD), was applied to optimize extraction conditions, formulation, and preparation process. The results demonstrated that the optimal extraction conditions were an ethanol concentration of 75.9%, an extraction time of 35.7 min, and a solid/liquid ratio of 1:32.6. Under these optimal conditions, the extraction yield of Ori was 4.23 mg/g, which was well matched with the predicted value (4.28 mg/g). The optimal preparation conditions of Ori liposomes by RSM, with an ultrasonic time of 41.1 min, a soybean phospholipids/drug ratio of 9.6 g/g, and a water bath temperature of 53.4 °C, had higher encapsulation efficiency (84.1%). The characterization studies indicated that Ori liposomes had well-dispersible spherical shapes and uniform sizes with a particle size of 137.7 nm, a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.216, and zeta potential of -24.0 mV. In addition, Ori liposomes presented better activity than free Ori. Therefore, the results indicated that Ori liposomes could enhance the bioactivity of Ori, being proposed as a promising vehicle for drug delivery.

RESUMO

Prometryne is a widely used herbicide in China to control annual grasses and broadleaf weeds. However, the stability of prometryne makes it difficult to be degraded, which poses a threat to human health. This study presents a bacterial strain isolated from soil samples with a prometryne application history, designated strain DY-1. Strain DY-1, identified as Pseudomonas sp., is capable of utilizing prometryne as a sole carbon source for growth and degrading 100% of prometryne within 48 h from an initial concentration of 50 mg L-1. To further optimize the degradation of prometryne, the prometryne concentration, temperature, pH, and salt concentration were examined. The optimal conditions for degradation of prometryne by strain DY-1 were an initial prometryne concentration of 50 mg L-1, 30 °C, pH 7-8, and NaCl concentration of 200 mg L-1. The same strain also degraded other s-triazine herbicides, including simetryne, ametryne, desmetryne, and metribuzin, under the same conditions. The biodegradation pathway of prometryne was established by isolating sulfoxide prometryne as the first metabolite and by the identification of sulfone prometryne and 2-hydroxy prometryne by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The results illustrated that strain DY-1 achieved the removal of prometryne by gradually oxidizing and hydrolyzing the methylthio groups. A bioremediation trial with contaminated soil and pot experiments showed that after treating the prometryne-contaminated soil with strain DY-1, the content of prometryne was significantly reduced (P < 0.05). This study provides an efficient bacterial strain and approach that could be potentially useful for detoxification and bioremediation of prometryne analogs.

RESUMO

Broomcorn millet (Panicum miliaceum L.), one of the first domesticated crops, has been grown in Northern China for at least 10,000 years. The species is presently a minor crop, and evaluation of its genetic diversity has been very limited. In this study, we analyzed the genetic diversity of 88 accessions of broomcorn millet collected from various provinces of China. Amplification with 67 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers revealed moderate levels of diversity in the investigated accessions. A total of 179 alleles were detected, with an average of 2.7 alleles per locus. Polymorphism information content and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.043 to 0.729 (mean = 0.376) and 0.045 to 0.771 (mean = 0.445), respectively. Cluster analysis based on the unweighted pair group method of mathematical averages separated the 88 accessions into four groups at a genetic similarity level of 0.633. A genetic structure assay indicated a close correlation between geographical regions and genetic diversity. The uncovered information will be valuable for defining gene pools and developing breeding programs for broomcorn millet. Furthermore, the millet-specific SSR markers developed in this study should serve as useful tools for assessment of genetic diversity and elucidation of population structure in broomcorn millet.
