Multi-directional polarized optical sensors are increasingly vital in passive remote sensing, deepening our understanding of global cloud properties. Nevertheless, uncertainty lingers on how these observations can contribute to our knowledge of cloud diversity. The variability in cloud PSD (Particle Size Distribution) significantly influences a wide array of cloud characteristics, while unidentified factors in RT (Radiative Transfer) may introduce errors into the cloud PSD retrieval algorithm. Therefore, establishing unified evaluation criteria for both optical device configuration and inversion methods is crucial. Our study, based on Bayesian theory and RT, assesses the information content of both cloud effective radius and effective variance retrieval, along with the key factors affecting their retrieval in multi-directional polarized observations, using the calculation of DFS (Degree of Freedom for Signals).We consider the process of solar incidence, cloud scattering, and sensor reception, and discuss the impact of various sensor configurations, cloud characteristics, and other components on the retrieval of cloud PSD. Correspondingly, we observed a 48% improvement in the information content of cloud PSD with the incorporation of multi-directional polarized measurements in the rainbow region. Cloud droplet concentration significantly influences inversion, but its PSD does not cause monotonic linear interference on information content. The blending of particle mixtures with different PSD has a significant negative impact on DFS. In cases where the AOD (Aerosol Optical Depth) is less than 0.5 and the COT (Cloud Optical Thickness) exceeds 5, the influence of aerosol and surface contributions on inversion can be neglected. Our findings would serve as a foundation for future instrument design improvements and enhancements to retrieval algorithms.

The peel of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim, is considered one of the primary sources for Trichosanthis pericarpium in traditional Chinese medicine, exhibiting lipid-lowering properties. The impact on hyperlipidemia mice of the crude polysaccharide from the peel of T. Kirilowii (TRP) was investigated in this study. The findings revealed that TRP exhibited a significant improvement in hepatic lipid deposition. Moreover, it significantly decreased serum levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C, while concurrently increasing HDL-C. 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing technique revealed that TRP group exhibited an increased relative abundance of Actinobacteria, a down-regulated relative abundance of Ruminiclostridium, and an up-regulated relative abundance of Ileibacterium. Therefore, TRP might play a role in anti-hyperlipidemia through regulation of the intestinal milieu and enhancement of microbial equilibrium. Consequently, targeted fractionation of TRP resulted in the isolation of a homogeneous acidic polysaccharide termed TRP-1. The TRP-1 polysaccharide, with an average molecular weight of 1.00 × 104 Da, and was primarily composed of Rha, GlcA, GalA, Glc, Gal and Ara. TRP-1 possessed a backbone consisting of alternating connections between â†’ 6)-α-Galp-(1 â†’ 4)-α-Rhap-(1 â†’ 6)-α-Galp-(2 â†’ 6)-ß-Galp-(1 â†’ 6)-α-Galp-(2 â†’ 6)-ß-Galp-(1 â†’ units and branched chain containing â†’ 6)-α-Glcp-(1→, 2,4)-ß-Glcp-(1, and â†’ 4)-α-GlapA-(1→. Both TRP and TRP-1 exhibited significant disruption of cholesterol micelles, highlighting their potential as lipid-lowering agents that effectively inhibit cholesterol absorption pathways.

To improve the utilization efficiency of rape straw, anaerobic calcium oxide (CaO) alkalization was conducted, and advanced molecular spectroscopy was applied, to detect the internal molecular structural changes. Rape straw was treated with different combinations of CaO (3%, 5%, and 7%) and moisture levels (50% and 60%) and stored under anaerobic conditions. We investigated the carbohydrate chemical constituents, the ruminal neutral detergent fiber (aNDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) degradation kinetics, and the carbohydrate molecular structural features. CaO-treated groups were higher (p < 0.05) for ash, Ca, non-fiber carbohydrate, soluble fiber, and the ruminal degradability of aNDF and ADF. In contrast, they were lower (p < 0.05) for the contents of aNDF, ADF, and indigestible fiber. With CaO levels rising from 3% to 7%, the content of aNDF and ADF linearly decreased (p < 0.05). CaO treatment and anaerobic storage changed the molecular characteristics, including structural parameters related to total carbohydrates (TC), cellulosic compounds (CEC), and structural carbohydrates (STC). Alterations in cellulosic compounds' spectral regions were highly correlated with the differences in carbohydrate chemical constituents and the ruminal digestibility of rape straw. In summary, CaO treatment and anaerobic storage altered the molecular structural parameters of carbohydrates, leading to an enhancement in the effective degradability (ED) of aNDF and ADF in rape straw. From the perspective of processing cost and effectiveness, 5% CaO + 60% moisture could be suggested as a recommended treatment combination.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect of sex on the short-time prognosis in two different age subgroups (≤55 years old and >55 years old). METHODS: From January 2009 to 2019, 1522 patients with DeBakey I acute aortic dissection (AAD) underwent frozen elephant trunk and total arch replacement at a Tertiary Center in China were divided into female group (n = 324) and male group (n = 1198). The demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, management, short-term outcomes were described in the different sex groups. The risk factors of 30-days mortality for females and males were identified by univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis. Then, random Forest regression was used to analyze the association between age and 30-days mortality in the different sexes groups. The cut-off age for 30-days mortality in females was then identified as 55 years. The patients were divided into two subgroups: young patients (≤55 years old) and elderly patients (>55 years old). Clinical prognosis between different sex groups was further compared in the age subgroups. RESULTS: Approximately four-fifths of the patients were males. Males with DeBakey I AAD were younger than females (47 vs 52 years; p < 0.01). The proportion of males gradually declined with age. The cut-off age for 30-days mortality in females and males was identified as 55 years old and 63 years old, respectively. In young patients (≤55 years old), the 30-days mortality rate for females was lower than males (hazard ratio [HR, 2.02, p < 0.05). Following adjustment using the multivariable Cox regression analysis, females were identified as an independent protective factor for 30-days mortality (HR, 2.24, p = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that females present with DeBakey I AAD less frequently than males and they tend to present with DeBakey AAD later in life. In young patients, females had better early outcomes despite similar time for symptom onset to diagnosis and surgical technique than males.

Anterior gradient 2 (AGR2) is often overexpressed in several types of cancer. AGR2 is cytoplasmic or secreted as an extracellular signal. Intracellular AGR2 properties and role in cancer have been well studied, but its extracellular function is largely unclear. It has been shown that extracellular AGR2 activates endothelial cells and fibroblasts in culture, but the mechanism of AGR2 signaling is not well elucidated. Here, we report that tumor secreted or externally added AGR2 translocates into cytoplasm by endocytosis, binds to ß-catenin and further co-translocates to the nucleus in NIH3T3 fibroblasts. Externally added AGR2 also increased ß-catenin expression, stability, and accumulation in the nucleus in both fibroblasts and cancer cells. External AGR2 rescued the expression of ß-catenin, which was suppressed by EGFR inhibitor AG1478 indicating an alternative pathway to regulate ß-catenin independent of EGFR signal. These effects were abolished when a monoclonal antibody against AGR2 was added to the experiments, confirming the effects are caused by AGR2 only. Putting together, our results show that extracellular AGR2 signaling pathway involves endocytosis mediated cellular translocation, direct binding and regulating ß-catenin nuclear accumulation. It is also a target against tumor initiated AGR2 signaling to form and maintain tumor microenvironment.
