RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the potential importance of complement system activation, with particular emphasis on the complement alternative pathway (AP), in the pathogenesis of hypertensive renal damage. METHODS: Serum complement C3, complement Factor H (CFH) and AP activation were assessed in 66 participants with established essential hypertension with renal damage (RD). Fifty-nine patients with age- and sex-matched essential hypertension without renal damage (NRD) and 58 healthy participants (normal) were selected. RESULTS: Our study revealed that C3 and AP50 continuously increased from normal to NRD to RD (p < 0.05, respectively), while CFH was significantly lower than that in NRD and healthy participants (p < 0.05, respectively). After multifactorial logistic regression analysis corrected for confounders, elevated serum C3 (p = 0.001) and decreased CFH (p < 0.001) were found to be independent risk factors for hypertension in healthy participants; elevated serum C3 (p = 0.034), elevated AP50 (p < 0.001), decreased CFH (p < 0.001), increased age (p = 0.011) and increased BMI (p = 0.013) were found to be independent risk factors for the progression of hypertension to hypertensive renal damage; elevated serum C3 (p = 0.017), elevated AP50 (p = 0.023), decreased CFH (p = 0.005) and increased age (p = 0.041) were found to be independent risk factors for the development of hypertensive renal damage in healthy participants. CONCLUSION: Abnormal activation of complement, particularly complement AP, may be a risk factor for the development and progression of hypertensive renal damage.

RESUMO

Selenium (Se(VI)) is environmentally toxic. One of the most popular reducing agents for Se(VI) remediation is zero-valent iron (ZVI). However, most ZVI studies were carried out in water matrices, and the recovery of reduced Se has not been investigated. A water-sediment system constructed using natural sediment was employed here to study in-situ Se remediation and recovery. A combined effect of ZVI and unacclimated microorganisms from natural sediment was found in Se(VI) removal in the water phase with a removal efficiency of 92.7 ± 1.1% within 7 d when 10 mg L-1 Se(VI) was present. Soluble Se(VI) was removed from the water and precipitated to the sediment phase (74.8 ± 0.1%), which was enhanced by the addition of ZVI (83.3 ± 0.3%). The recovery proportion of the immobilized Se was 34.2 ± 0.1% and 92.5 ± 0.2% through wet and dry magnetic separation with 1 g L-1 ZVI added, respectively. The 16 s rRNA sequencing revealed the variations in the microbial communities in response to ZVI and Se, which the magnetic separation could potentially mitigate in the long term. This study provides a novel technique to achieve in-situ Se remediation and recovery by combining ZVI reduction and magnetic separation.

RESUMO

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an age-related neurodegenerative disorder with no effective interventions for curing or modifying its progression. However, emerging research suggests that vitamin A in the diet may play a role in both the prevention and treatment of AD, although the exact mechanisms are not fully understood. Objectives: This study aims to investigate the dietary vitamin A modifies the gut microbiota and intestinal tissue transcriptome, impacting intestinal permeability and the release of inflammatory factors, thereby influencing Aß pathology shedding light on its potential as a dietary intervention for AD prevention and treatment. Methods: The APP/PS1-AD mouse model was employed and divided into three dietary groups: vitamin A-deficient (VAD), normal vitamin A (VAN), and vitamin A-supplemented (VAS) for a 12-week study. Neurobehavioral functions were assessed using the Morris Water Maze Test (MWM). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to quantify levels of Diamine Oxidase (DAO), D-lactate, IL-6, IL-1ß, and TNF-a cytokines. Serum vitamin A levels were analyzed via LC-MS/MS analysis. Immunohistochemical analysis and morphometry were performed to evaluate the deposition of Aß in brain tissue. The gut microbiota of APP/PS1 mice was analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing analysis. Additionally, transcriptomic analysis was conducted on intestinal tissue from APP/PS1 mice. Results: No significant changes in food intake and body weight were observed among the groups. However, the VAD and VAS groups showed reduced food intake compared to the VAN group at various time points. In terms of cognitive function, the VAN group performed better in the Morris Water Maze Test, indicating superior learning and memory abilities. The VAD and VAS groups exhibited impaired performance, with the VAS group performing relatively better than the VAD group. Serum vitamin A concentrations differed significantly among the groups, with the VAS group having the highest concentration. Aß levels were significantly higher in the VAD group compared to both the VAN and VAS groups. Microbial analysis revealed that the VAS and VAN groups had higher microbial diversity than the VAD group, with specific taxa characterizing each group. The VAN group was characterized by taxa such as Actinohacteriota and Desulfovibrionaceae, while the VAD group was characterized by Parabacteroides and Tannerellaceae. The VAS group showed similarities with both VAN and VAD groups, with taxa like Desulfobacterota and Desulfovibrionaceae being present. The VAD vs. VAS, VAD vs. VAN, and VAS vs. VAN comparisons identified 571, 313, and 243 differentially expressed genes, respectively, which associated with cellular and metabolic processes, and pathway analysis revealed enrichment in pathways related to chemical carcinogenesis, drug metabolism, glutathione metabolism, and immune-related processes. The VAD group exhibited higher levels of D-lactate, diamine oxidase, and inflammatory cytokines (TNF-a, IL-1ß, IL-6) compared to the VAN and VAS groups. Conclusion: Dietary vitamin A supplementation modulates the gut microbiota, intestinal permeability, inflammatory factors, and Aß protein formation, offering insights into the pathogenesis of AD and potential therapeutic avenues for further exploration. This research highlights the intricate interplay between diet, gut microbiota, and neurodegenerative processes, emphasizing the importance of dietary interventions in managing AD-related pathologies.

RESUMO

The Cu0-Cu+ interfaces play a key role in the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to produce multi-carbon products (C2+), however, it is difficult for Cu+ to exist stably under reducing conditions. Herein, we construct highly dispersed and stable Cu-Cu2O-CeOx interface on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for CO2 electroreduction to C2+ products. During the synthesis process, utilizing strong electrostatic interactions, the complex ions of Cu2+ and Ce3+ are uniformly adsorbed on the surface of graphene oxide. Then, under the solvothermal reaction of ethylene glycol and thiourea, the two metal complex ions are converted into highly dispersed and ultrafine Cu2S-CeOx nanocomposites on rGO. Interestingly, CeOx and thiourea synergistically regulate the generation of only Cu+. Under the CO2RR process, the reconstruction of Cu2S promotes the formation of Cu0 and Cu2O species. CeOx stabilizes partial Cu+ species and promotes the formation of Cu-Cu2O-CeOx composite interface. With the help of synergistic effect of Cu0, Cu+ and CeOx, the optimized reaction interface achieves the Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 74.5 % for C2+ products with the current density of 230 mA cm-2 at -0.9 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode. In situ attenuate total reflectance-infrared absorption spectroscopy (ATR-IRAS) spectra show that the composite interfaces promote the adsorption and activation of H2O and CO2, improve the surface coverage of CO intermediates (*CO), and thus accelerate the CC coupling process.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate the effects of canagliflozin (20 mg/kg) on Dahl salt-sensitive (DSS) rat gut microbiota and salt-sensitive hypertension-induced kidney injury and further explore its possible mechanism. METHODS: Rats were fed a high-salt diet to induce hypertension and kidney injury, and physical and physiological indicators were measured afterwards. This study employed 16S rRNA sequencing technology and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)-based metabolic profiling combined with advanced differential and association analyses to investigate the correlation between the microbiome and the metabolome in male DSS rats. RESULTS: A high-salt diet disrupted the balance of the intestinal flora and increased toxic metabolites (methyhistidines, creatinine, homocitrulline, and indoxyl sulfate), resulting in severe kidney damage. Canagliflozin contributed to reconstructing the intestinal flora of DSS rats by significantly increasing the abundance of Corynebacterium spp., Bifidobacterium spp., Facklamia spp., Lactobacillus spp., Ruminococcus spp., Blautia spp., Coprococcus spp., and Allobaculum spp. Moreover, the reconstruction of the intestinal microbiota led to significant changes in host amino acid metabolite concentrations. The concentration of uremic toxins, such as methyhistidines, creatinine, and homocitrulline, in the serum of rats was decreased by canagliflozin, which resulted in oxidative stress and renal injury alleviation. CONCLUSION: Canagliflozin may change the production of metabolites and reduce the level of uremic toxins in the blood circulation by reconstructing the intestinal flora of DSS rats fed a high-salt diet, ultimately alleviating oxidative stress and renal injury.

RESUMO

Rechargeable zinc-air batteries (Re-ZABs) are one of the most promising next-generation batteries that can hold more energy while being cost-effective and safer than existing devices. Nevertheless, zinc dendrites, non-portability, and limited charge-discharge cycles have long been obstacles to the commercialization of Re-ZABs. Over the past 30 years, milestone breakthroughs have been made in technical indicators (safety, high energy density, and long battery life), battery components (air cathode, zinc anode, and gas diffusion layer), and battery configurations (flexibility and portability), however, a comprehensive review on advanced design strategies for Re-ZABs system from multiple angles is still lacking. This review underscores the progress and strategies proposed so far to pursuit the high-efficiency Re-ZABs system, including the aspects of rechargeability (from primary to rechargeable), air cathode (from unifunctional to bifunctional), zinc anode (from dendritic to stable), electrolytes (from aqueous to non-aqueous), battery configurations (from non-portable to portable), and industrialization progress (from laboratorial to practical). Critical appraisals of the advanced modification approaches (such as surface/interface modulation, nanoconfinement catalysis, defect electrochemistry, synergistic electrocatalysis, etc.) are highlighted for cost-effective flexible Re-ZABs with good sustainability and high energy density. Finally, insights are further rendered properly for the future research directions of advanced zinc-air batteries.

RESUMO

Conjugated polymer films are promising in wearable X-ray detection. However, achieving optimal film microstructure possessing good electrical and detection performance under large deformation via scalable printing remains challenging. Herein, we report bar-coated high-performance stretchable films based on a conjugated polymer P(TDPP-Se) and elastomer SEBS blend by optimizing the solution-processing conditions. The moderate preaggregation in solution and prolonged growth dynamics from a solvent mixture with limited dissolving capacity is critical to forming aligned P(TDPP-Se) chains/crystalline nanofibers in the SEBS phase with enhanced π-π stacking for charge transport and stress dissipation. The film shows a large elongation at break of >400% and high mobilities of 5.29 cm2 V-1 s-1 at 0% strain and 1.66 cm2 V-1 s-1 over 500 stretch-release cycles at 50% strain, enabling good X-ray imaging with a high sensitivity of 1501.52 µC Gyair-1 cm-2. Our work provides a morphology control strategy toward high-performance conjugated polymer film-based stretchable electronics.

RESUMO

Objective: Insulin resistance (IR) has a bearing on blood pressure (BP). Nevertheless, research on the relationships between surrogates for IR and BP is limited. In this study, we investigate the associations of these novel IR indices with BP in new-onset hypertension (HTN) and elevated BP individuals. Methods: An overall sample of 55,381 adult subjects was included in Hebei General Hospital. BP and other clinical indicators were measured. Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC), TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI), TyG-waist to height ratio (TyG-WHtR), triglyceride-to-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-C) and metabolic score for IR (METS-IR) were collected as dependable surrogates for IR. Examinees were categorized into four groups based on BP levels. Those involved were classified as quartiles according to the levels of six surrogate IR indices. Logistic regression analysis was adopted to evaluate the impact of substitute IR indicators on BP. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was performed to explore the predictive ability of the parameters on BP. Results: The incidence of elevated BP, stage 1 HTN and stage 2 HTN was 7.86%, 24.05% and 23.76%, respectively. As the levels of six substitute IR indices rose, so did the BP. In the logistic regression analysis, after full adjustment, all alternative IR indicators were independently related to both stage 1 HTN and stage 2 HTN. Except for TG/HDL-C, other substitute IR indices were strongly associated with elevated BP. ROC curves analysis suggested TyG-WC and TyG-WHtR outperformed other indicators with higher odd ratios and area under the curve (AUC) in all the participants. Conclusion: Increased substitute IR indices were significantly associated with elevated BP in new-onset HTN and elevated BP individuals. TyG-WC and TyG-WHtR could better predict elevated BP, stage 1 HTN and stage 2 HTN.

RESUMO

The composite material PLGA compounded with ß-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP) was prepared by melt blending method, and the absorbable interface screw was prepared by injection molding process. Prepare PBS buffer that simulates human body, conduct in vitro degradation experiments on interface screws according to relevant national and industry standards, then test and characterize interface screws at different time points for degradation of intrinsic viscosity, average molecular weight distribution, mass loss, mechanical properties and thermal properties. According to the degradation performance-time curve, determine the time node at which the interface screw loses the mechanical properties. In this paper, the in vitro degradation behavior of interfacial screws prepared from PLGA and ß-TCP composites was studied in detail, providing a reference and basis for the degradation behavior of absorbable products prepared from PLGA and ß-TCP composites.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the antifibrotic effects of canagliflozin, with or without irbesartan, on renal injury in Dahl salt-sensitive (SS) rats fed a high-salt (HS) diet. METHODS: After the preconditioning stage, Dahl SS rats (n = 47) were divided into five experimental groups as follows: low-salt (LS, n = 7), HS (n = 10), HS with canagliflozin (n = 10), HS with irbesartan (n = 10), and HS with canagliflozin and irbesartan (n = 10). RESULTS: The HS diet increased systolic blood pressure (SBP), renal fibrosis, fibrotic protein expression, and transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1)/Smad2/3 pathway protein expression compared with the findings in the LS group. Irbesartan reduced SBP and slowed the loss of renal function. Canagliflozin significantly reduced body weight and renal fibrosis and suppressed the TGF-ß1/Smad2/3 pathway. The combined therapy exerted better renoprotective effects on all outcome parameters. CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that canagliflozin and irbesartan exert different effects on renal injury in SS hypertensive rats, and the combined regimen could have stronger effects than either monotherapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: More efficient instruments for body constitution identification are needed for clinical practice. We aimed to develop the short-form version of the Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire (CCMQ) and evaluate for health management. METHODS: First, the short forms were developed through expert survey, classical test theory (CTT), and modern item response (IRT) based on the CCMQ. A combination of e-mail and manual methods was used in expert survey. Then, five indexes of CTT including criteria value-critical ratio, correlation coefficient, discrete tendency, internal consistency, and factor loading were used. And, IRT method was used through analyzing the discrimination and difficulty parameters of items. Second, the three top-ranked items of each constitution scale were selected for the simplified CCMQ, based on the three combined methods of different conditions and weights. Third, The psychometric properties such as completion time, validity (Construct, criterion, and divergent validity), and reliability (test-retest and internal consistency reliability) were evaluated. Finally, the diagnostic validity of the best short-form used receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. RESULTS: Three short-form editions were developed, and retained items 27, 23 and 27, which are named as WangQi nine body constitution questionnaire of Traditional Chinese Medicine (short-form) (SF-WQ9CCMQ)- A, B, and C, respectively. SF-WQ9CCMQ- A is showed the best psychometric property on Construct validity, Criterion validity, test-retest reliability and internal consistency reliability. The diagnostic validity indicated that the area under the ROC curve was 0.928 (95%CI: 0.924-0.932) for the Gentleness constitution scale, and were 0.895-0.969 and 0.911-0.981 for unbalance constitution scales using the cut-off value of the original CCMQ as 40 ("yes" standard) and 30 ("tendency" standard), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Our study successfully developed a well short-form which has good psychometric property, and excellent diagnostic validity consistent with the original. New and simplified instrument and opportunity are provided for body constitution identification, health management and primary care implementation.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Herein, we describe a case of Meigs' syndrome, a complex condition that poses a challenge for anesthesiologists to manage. Good anesthetic management of this syndrome is necessary to preserve the prognosis. PRESENTATION OF CASE: An 80-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency department with complaints of abdominal pain, particularly in the left lower abdomen, with aggravation after activity. The patient was unable to sleep in a supine position. Her serum carbohydrate antigen 125 level was 253.15 U/mL-1, and laboratory examinations were nonspecific. On auscultation, breath sounds were absent from the base of the right lung. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) was performed to screen for a possible tumor consisting of both solid and cystic components, but the findings were inconclusive. Chest CT showed large right pleural effusions and hiatal hernia. DISCUSSION: A multidisciplinary team conducted careful preoperative preparation, while the anesthesiology team prepared detailed peri-anesthesia management strategies to regulate acid-base and electrolyte balance and maintain respiratory and hemodynamic stability. The surgeon resected the tumor successfully. The patient was discharged after 1 week. A postoperative pathology test confirmed fibrothecomas. CONCLUSION: We provided an effective strategy for the anesthetic management of Meigs' syndrome, which remains a complex challenge for anesthesiologists. It is important that anesthesiologists perform adequate preoperative evaluation and prudent peri-anesthesia management to ensure that patients have a good prognosis and discharge healthily. A multidisciplinary team is essential when caring for patients with Meigs' syndrome.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of canagliflozin (CANA) on ventricular remodeling in patients with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) heart failure and to further investigate its possible molecular mechanisms. METHODS: A high-salt diet was used to induce the formation of HFpEF model in salt-sensitive rats. The rats were fed with CANA and irbesartan, respectively. The mice were divided into control group, model group, CANA group, irbesartan group, and combined drug group. After 12 weeks of feeding, the rats were evaluated by measuring the relevant indexes and echocardiography for cardiac function. Histological analysis was performed using Masson trichrome staining and immunohistochemical staining. RT-qPCR and Western blot were used to quantify the relevant genes and proteins. RESULTS: In this study, CANA exhibited diuresis, decreased blood pressure, weight loss, and increased food and water intake. Following a high-salt diet, Dahl salt-sensitive rats developed hypertension followed by left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, myocardial fibrosis, and left ventricular remodeling. Myocardial hypertrophy and fibrosis were reduced, and left ventricular diastolic function and ventricular remodeling improved after CANA treatment. The combination of CANA and irbesartan was superior to monotherapy in reducing blood pressure and improving cardiac insufficiency and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in rats. CANA improves myocardial fibrosis, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, and ventricular remodeling by upregulating apelin, activating angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), and increasing ACE2/Ang (1-7)/MASR axis levels. CONCLUSION: CANA improves myocardial fibrosis, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, and ventricular remodeling in HFpEF rats through upregulation of apelin/ACE2 signaling.

RESUMO

MicroRNA-21 (miR-21) plays an anti-apoptotic role following ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury (IRI) in vivo; however, its underlying mechanism remains unclear. The present study explored the effects of miR-21 and homeodomain interacting protein kinase 3 (HIPK3) on cardiomyocyte apoptosis induced by hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) in vitro. To this end, the rat cardiomyocyte H9C2 cell line was exposed to H/R and the roles of miR-21 and HIPK3 in regulating cell viability and apoptosis were evaluated by cell counting kit-8 assay, terminal-deoxynucleotidyl-transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling, and flow cytometry. Immunofluorescence and Western blotting were performed to detect the expression/phosphorylation of apoptosis-related proteins. miR-21 expression was measured with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The putative interaction between miR-21 and HIPK3 was evaluated using the luciferase reporter assay. Our results showed that (i) miR-21 overexpression or HIPK3 down-regulation significantly attenuated H9C2 cells apoptosis after H/R, (ii) suppression of miR-21 expression promoted apoptosis, (iii) miR-21 overexpression inhibited HIPK3 expression, (iv) HIPK3 was the direct and main target of miR-21, (v) miR-21/HIPK3 formed part of a reciprocal, negative feedback loop, and (vi) HIPK3 down-regulation decreased FAS-mediated apoptosis by inhibiting the phosphorylation of FADD, which subsequently inhibited the expression of BAX and cleaved caspase-3 and increased the expression of BCL2. Our study indicates that miR-21 attenuates FAS-mediated cardiomyocyte apoptosis by regulating HIPK3 expression, which could eventually have important clinical implications for patients with acute myocardial infarction.

RESUMO

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries hold great promise for widespread application on account of their high theoretical energy density (2600 Wh kg-1 ) and the advantages of sulfur. Practical use, however, is impeded by the shuttle effect of polysulfides along with sluggish cathode kinetics. it is reported that such deleterious issues can be overcome by using a composite film (denoted as V-CMP@MWNT) that consists of a conjugated microporous polymer (CMP) embedded with vanadium single-atom catalysts (V SACs) and a network of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). V-CMP@MWNT films are fabricated by first electropolymerizing a bidentate ligand designed to coordinate to V metals on self-standing MWNT films followed by treating the CMP with a solution containing V ions. Li-S cells containing a V-CMP@MWNT film as interlayer exhibit outstanding performance metrics including a high cycling stability (616 mA h g-1 at 0.5 C after 1000 cycles) and rate capability (804 mA h g-1 at 10 C). An extraordinary area-specific capacity of 13.2 mA h cm-2 is also measured at a high sulfur loading of 12.2 mg cm-2 . The underlying mechanism that enables the V SACs to promote cathode kinetics and suppress the shuttle effect is elucidated through a series of electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques.

RESUMO

The nonaqueous catalysis of lipases is significant for synthesis of high pure esters, but they usually behave low catalytic activity due to denaturation and aggregation of enzyme protein in organic phases. To improve the nonaqueous catalysis, the inexpensive copper phthalocyanine was taken as a new carrier on which Pseudomonas cepacia lipase was immobilized by physical absorption, and used for synthesis of hexyl acetate, an important flavor, via transesterification of hexanol and vinyl acetate. Results showed that the desired loading was 10-mg lipase immobilized on 10-mg copper phthalocyanine powder. When the immobilized lipase was employed in the reaction system consisted of 1.5-mL hexanol and 1.5-mL vinyl acetate at 37°C and 160 rpm, the conversion was fivefolds of that catalyzed by native lipase after 1 h, and reached 99.0% after 8 h. In six times of 8-h reuses, the immobilized lipase behaved an activity attenuation rate 1.22% h-1, lower than 1.77% h-1 of native lipase, which meant that the immobilized lipase was more stable. Even at the room temperature and the static state without shaking or stirring, the immobilized lipase still brought conversion 42.8% after 10 h and the native lipase gave 20.1%. Obviously, the immobilized lipase is an available biocatalyst in organic phase and has great potential in food industry.

RESUMO

NiFe-layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) is the benchmark catalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline medium, however, it is still challenging to improve its activity and stability. Herein, NiFe-LDH macroporous array electrodes are demonstrated to significantly enhance the activity and stability for oxygen evolution reaction. The electrodes are fabricated by the chemical and electrochemical corrosion process of Ni foam induced by ferric nitrate, hydrochloric acid and oxygen. By optimizing the amount of iron salt and acid and selecting the appropriate reaction temperature and time, the NiFe-LDH electrodes only need the overpotential of 180 mV and 248 mV to reach the current density of 10 mA cm-2 and 500 mA cm-2 , respectively, and remain highly stable for 1000 h at 500 mA cm-2 . The unique macroporous array not only significantly increases the active area of NiFe-LDH catalyst, but also creates a stable nanostructure that avoids severe reconstruction.

RESUMO

Objective: Many stroke victims have severe swallowing problems. Previous neuroimaging studies have found that several brain regions scattered in the frontal, temporal, and parietal lobes, such as Brodmann's areas (BA) 6, 21, and 40, are associated with swallowing function. This study sought to investigate changes in swallowing function and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) in stroke patients with dysphagia following action observation treatment. It also sought to detect changes in brain regions associated with swallowing in stroke patients. Methods: In this study, 12 healthy controls (HCs) and 12 stroke patients were recruited. Stroke patients were given 4 weeks of action observation therapy. In order to assess the differences in mfALFF values between patients before treatment and HCs, the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF) in three frequency bands (conventional frequency band, slow-4, and slow-5) were calculated for fMRI data. The significant brain regions were selected as regions of interest (ROIs) for subsequent analysis. The mfALFF values were extracted from ROIs of the three groups (patients before and after treatment and HCs) and compared to assess the therapeutic efficacy. Results: In the conventional band, stroke patients before treatment had higher mfALFF in the inferior temporal gyrus and lower mfALFF in the calcarine fissure and surrounding cortex and thalamus compared to HCs. In the slow-4 band, there was no significant difference in related brain regions between stroke patients before treatment and HCs. In the slow-5 band, stroke patients before treatment had higher mfALFF in inferior cerebellum, inferior temporal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, and lower mfALFF in calcarine fissure and surrounding cortex compared to HCs. We also assessed changes in aberrant brain activity that occurred both before and after action observation therapy. The mfALFF between stroke patients after therapy was closed to HCs in comparison to the patients before treatment. Conclusion: Action observation therapy can affect the excitability of certain brain regions. The changes in brain function brought about by this treatment may help to further understand the potential mechanism of network remodeling of swallowing function.

RESUMO

NiFe-based (oxy)hydroxides are the benchmark catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline medium, however, it is still challenging to control their structures and compositions. Herein, molybdates (NiFe(MoO4 )x ) are applied as unique precursors to synthesize ultrafine Mo modified NiFeOx Hy (oxy)hydroxide nanosheet arrays. The electrochemical activation process enables the molybdate ions (MoO4 2- ) in the precursors gradually dissolve, and at the same time, hydroxide ions (OH- ) in the electrolyte diffuse into the precursor and react with Ni2+ and Fe3+ ions in confined space to produce ultrafine NiFeOx Hy (oxy)hydroxides nanosheets (<10 nm), which are densely arranged into microporous arrays and maintain the rod-like morphology of the precursor. Such dense ultrafine nanosheet arrays produce rich edge planes on the surface of NiFeOx Hy (oxy)hydroxides to expose more active sites. More importantly, the capillary phenomenon of microporous structures and hydrophilic hydroxyl groups induce the superhydrophilicity and the rough surface produces the superaerophobic characteristic for bubbles. With these advantages, the optimized catalyst exhibits excellent performance for OER, with a small overpotential of 182 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and long-term stability (200 h) at 200 mA cm-2 . Theoretical calculations show that the modification of Mo enhances the electron delocalization and optimizes the adsorption of intermediates.
