RESUMO

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), an immune-mediated peripheral neuropathy, is frequently treated with long-term maintenance intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). However, disadvantages of IVIG are the systemic adverse reactions, lengthy infusions, and need for vascular access. Subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIG) addresses many of the issues encountered by those unable, or unwilling, to tolerate the treatment burden of long-term IVIG. Subcutaneous immunoglobulin, a 20% solution stabilized with L-proline, is US Food and Drug Administration-approved for CIDP maintenance therapy in patients after being stabilized with IVIG. Approval was based on a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial where SCIG demonstrated superiority over placebo and was safe and efficacious in maintaining function. In addition to reviewing the primary efficacy results from the clinical trial, this article aims to update the neurology nursing community on a new option for long-term management of CIDP, including the practicalities of initiating and maintaining patients on SCIG therapy.

RESUMO

The title compound, C(8)H(4)ClNO(2)Te, represents the first reported example of a benzofuran-derived 2,1,3-benzoxatellurazole derivative. While it can be formally described as a nitrosoaryltellurium monochloride, its Te-O and Te-C bond lengths of 2.1421 (14) and 2.0374 (17) Å, respectively, characterize it as a planar tricyclic aromatic containing a Te=C double bond. Its formation suggests that derivatives of 2-cyclohexenone oxime in general react with tellurium dioxide to form aryl-2,1,3-benzoxatellurazoles.

RESUMO

Rigid macroporous copolymers of styrene and divinylbenzene have been designed for large-scale preparative and process-scale purification of synthetic peptides and recombinant proteins. The polymeric particles are mechanically stable and hence able to operate at the required high linear velocities. The pore size and pore morphology has been optimised to enable unhindered solute diffusion whilst providing maximum available surface area to enhance loading capacity. A 100 A pore size has been developed for synthetic peptides and a 300 A pore size for recombinant proteins. Precise control of particle size, within the range 10 to 20 microm, is possible which together with the very narrow particle size distribution enables maximum resolution/loading to be obtained within the pressure limits of the instrumentation being used. The chemical stability of the polymer enables cleaning in place with 1 M sodium hydroxide without particle dissolution or a deterioration in selectivity. These materials can be packed into compression hardware and are manufactured as single lots up to 100 kg (300 l) batch size.
