RESUMO

Surface engineering is one of the important strategies to enhance the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, 2-chloro-1,3-dimethylimidazolidinium hexafluorophosphate (CIP) was introduced into PSCs to passivate the defects of the perovskite films. There are many F atoms in CIP molecules that have strong electronegativity and hydrophobicity. F groups can interact with Pb2+ defects, inhibit interface recombination, improve the interaction between the CIP ionic liquid and perovskite film, and reduce the defect density of perovskites, thus improving the stability of perovskite devices. Density functional theory calculation reveals that CIP can interact with uncoordinated Pb2+ in perovskites through coordination, reduce the defects of perovskite films, and inhibit nonradiation recombination. The ITO/SnO2/MAPbI3/CIP/carbon devices without hole transport layers possessed the highest PCE of 17.06%. Moreover, the unencapsulated device remains at 98.18% of the initial efficiency stored in 30-40% relative humidity for 850 h. This strategy provides an effective reference for enhancing the performance of PSCs.

RESUMO

The treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major difficulty in improving patient health. Exercise is one of the main interventions for T2DM. Static strength training is one of the key forms of traditional sports in China. Research shows that static strength training is an effective clinical method for T2DM intervention, but there is no experimental device suitable for static training in mice. One of the difficulties in moving from clinical to basic research is to design appropriate experimental devices. In order to further study the mechanism of static training intervention in T2DM, a simple method for making a static training device for mice is introduced in this paper. This device has the advantages of simple operation, cheap material, and high feasibility. Previous studies conducted under this protocol have shown that static training can effectively reduce blood glucose levels and improve the mitochondrial function of skeletal muscle cells in T2DM mice. The purpose of introducing this device is to promote research on the mechanism of traditional exercise in the intervention of T2DM and to lay a foundation for the quantitative intervention of exercise.

RESUMO

In this study, a novel three-dimensional photoelectric system was designed and constructed for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) via photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and photoelectric catalysis. To this end, a Ti/RuO2-IrO2-SnO2-CeO2 electrode was prepared via a thermal oxidation coating method and used as a dimensionally-stable anode (DSA). The cathode was made of a titanium sheet with Fe3+-doped TiO2 loaded on coal gasification slag (CGS) (Fe3+-TiO2@CGS) as a photocatalyst. The factors affecting the degradation efficiency, such as the supporting electrolyte, current density, and initial pH were systematically investigated. The results revealed Fe3+-TiO2@CGS three-dimensional photoelectric system exhibiting efficient synergistic performance of photocatalysis and electrocatalysis with a synergistic factor of 1.11. Photo-generated holes (h+) were generated by light irradiation and direct anodic oxidation. Furthermore, hydroxyl radicals (HO·) radicals were induced via other pathways. Such active species showed highly-oxidizing abilities, beneficial to the degradation of methylene blue (MB). The representative Fe3+-TiO2@CGS three-dimensional photoelectric system showed super high degradation efficiency at pH 11 and current density of 18.76 mA cm-2. Using NaCl as a supporting electrolyte, the degradation yield reached 99.98% after 60 min of photoelectrical treatment. Overall, the novel Fe3+-TiO2@CGS three-dimensional photoelectrical system looks very promising for the highly efficient catalytic degradation of organic contaminants.

RESUMO

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the mechanism of improvement in dry eye diseases (DEDs) treated by acupuncture. The inflammatory molecules and related pathways will be analyzed in our study. Methods: In order to establish the animal model for DEDs, healthy New Zealand white rabbits were treated with scopolamine (Scop) hydrobromide for 21 consecutive days. After 21 days, acupuncture, fluorometholone (Flu), and α7nAChR antagonist (α-BGT) treatments were performed, and the Scop injections were continued until day 35. The therapeutic effect of acupuncture on DED inflammation was evaluated by corneal fluorescence staining, tear film rupture time, tear flow measurement, in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM), corneal histopathology, and cytokine protein chip technology. The influence of acupuncture on the corneal pathology and inflammatory factors ACh, α7nAChR, and NF-κB was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and western blot. Results: Compared with the group Scop, acupuncture can significantly reduce corneal staining and increase the tear film rupture time and tear flow, which are accompanied by a decrease in corneal epithelial detachment and lymphocyte infiltration. Acupuncture can relieve the inflammation of corneal stroma and mitigate the expression of proinflammatory factors and chemokines. Acupuncture can upregulate the expression of ACh and α7nAChR and downregulate the expression of NF-κB. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate that acupuncture can alleviate corneal inflammation in New Zealand white rabbits with DEDs via α7nAChR and NF-κB signaling pathway regulation. The expression indicates that α7nAChR/NF-κB signaling pathway may be active and that acupuncture is a potential therapeutic target for dry eye.

RESUMO

The aim of the study was to investigate the clinical effects of abdominal massage on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its influence on the intestinal microflora. We conducted a randomized, controlled clinical trial. A total of 60 patients with T2DM, who met the inclusion criteria, were randomly allocated to the control group, the routine massage group, and the abdominal massage group. The control group received health education and maintained their hypoglycemic drug treatment plan. The routine massage group and the abdominal massage group received different massage interventions. In addition to glucose and lipid metabolism indicators, we quantitatively analyzed the gut microbiota to assess the effects of massage on the intestinal microflora of patients with T2DM. Compared with the control group, the abdominal massage improved levels of glycated hemoglobin, total cholesterol, Enterobacter, and Bifidobacteria with significant differences (P = 0.02, P = 0.03, P = 0.03, and P = 0.03). The comparison within group showed that the levels of the four bacterial genera in the abdominal massage group revealed significant differences before and after treatment (P = 0.006, P < 0.001, P < 0.001, and P = 0.002). The comparison between the routine massage group and the abdominal massage group was not significantly different in all levels of test indices. The abdominal massage group regulated levels of Enterobacter and Lactobacilli to a greater extent than the routine massage group. Additionally, abdominal massage decreased Enterococcus levels. The results of this study showed that abdominal massage has clinical advantages over routine massage. Specifically, this intervention may correct microflora disturbances to a certain extent.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The global incidence of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with dry eye is increasing annually, which imposes additional healthcare costs and financial burden on families and societies. In clinical practice, artificial tears are often used for symptomatic treatment, but these can only relieve the symptoms of discomfort. Acupuncture is a widely used alternative therapy. Indeed, randomised trials have found that acupuncture confers a definite therapeutic effect on patients with T2DM with dry eye. However, systematic reviews on the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture are lacking, therefore this systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for T2DM with dry eye. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Four English databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase and Ovid), three Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, Chonqing VIP Information), three Japanese databases (Japan Science, Technology Agency and Japan Medical Abstracts Society) and three Korean databases (Korean Medical database, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System and Research Information Service System) will be searched for reports published between 1 January 2007 and 1 October 2021. Only randomised controlled trials will be included, and language or publication dates will not be restricted. Two researchers will independently extract, manage and analyse data. The primary outcomes will include Schirmer's I test, breakup time, corneal fluorescein staining and ocular surface disease index scores. Secondary results will include visual analogue scale scores for ocular symptoms and any adverse events related to acupuncture. We will use Review Manager V.5.4 for the meta-analysis. The risk of bias will be independently assessed using Cochrane's 'risk of bias' tool. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethical approval will not be required since raw data will not be collected or generated. Our findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journal. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42021271891.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on ocular surface sensory neuralgia and the expression of P2X3 receptor (P2X3R) and protein kinase C(PKC)in cornea and trigeminal ganglion (TG) in dry eye disease (DED) guinea pigs, so as to explore its mechanism underlying improvement of ocular surface sensory neuralgia in DED. METHODS: Male British tricolor short haired guinea pigs were randomly divided into control, model, medication (pranoprofen), EA and sham acupuncture groups, with 8 guinea pigs in each group. The dry eye model was induced by subcutaneous injection of scopolamine hydrobromide solution (0.6 mg/0.2 mL,once daily) for 10 d. Guinea pigs in the medication group were treated by applying pranoprofen eye drops to eyes, 1 drop for one eye each time, three times a day. Guinea pigs of the EA group received EA stimulation (4 Hz/20 Hz,1 mA) of bilateral "Cuanzhu" (BL2) and "Taiyang" (HN5) and acupuncture at "Jingming" (BL1) "Sizhukong" (TE23), "Tongziliao" (GB1) for 15 min, once a day. Guinea pigs in the sham acupuncture group received blunt stimu-lation at the surface of the same acupoint with the tip of the acupuncture needle, once a day. All the treatments were conducted for 14 d. The corneal epithelium fluorescein staining score (0-3 points) was given according to the number of fluorescence-positive dots and flake-like coloration, the corneal mechanical perception thread (CMPT) detected using a corneal perception meter, and the palpebral fissure height measured. The number of sensory neurons in the cornea and TG was determined by using cholera toxin subunit B conjugated with Alexa Fluor 488 fluorescence labelling, and the expression levels of P2X3R and PKC in the cornea and TG detected by using immunohistochemistry and Western blot, separately. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the corneal fluorescein staining score, immunoactivity and expression of P2X3R proteins in both cornea and TG, PKC proteins in TG were significantly increased (P<0.01), whereas the CMPT and the height of palpebral fissure and the number of TG neurons significantly decreased in the model group (P<0.05,P<0.01). In comparison with the model group, the fluorescein staining score in the medication and EA groups, the immunoactivity and expression of P2X3R in cornea and TG in the EA group, and that of TG PKC in the EA group and the sham acupuncture groups were significantly decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01), while the height of palpebral fissure and CMPT after EA and the number of labelling TG sensory neurons were remarkably increased in the EA group (P<0.01) rather than in the medication and sham acupuncture groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: EA can alleviate the damage of corneal epithelium and sensory neurons in dry eye model guinea pigs, which may be related to its functions in down-regu-lating the expression of P2X3R and PKC in the cornea and TG.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) T854A is an uncommon exon 21 mutation in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It was first reported in samples collected after first generation EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment as an acquired resistant mutation to first generation EGFR-TKI. The efficacy of osimertinib, a third generation EGFR-TKI, in these patients was not clear. METHODS: In this study, a total of 8932 NSCLC patients with NGS data were retrospectively analyzed to investigate the molecular characteristics and clinical outcomes of patients with EGFR T854A mutation. RESULTS: Eight of 8932 patients (0.09%) had EGFR T854A mutation, and 5 of them (62.5%) were treatment-naïve. Interestingly, all EGFR T854A mutations were co-occurred with EGFR L858R mutation in cis. TP53 was the most common concomitant mutation and no other driver mutation was found. Five of the 8 patients received treatment of osimertinib. Four patients achieved partial response, and one had stable disease, resulting in an overall objective response rate of 80% and disease control rate of 100%. The median progression-free survival of patients who received osimertinib was 10 months. Moreover, EGFR C797S mutation was detected in 1 patient after resistant to osimertinib treatment. CONCLUSION: Presence of EGFR T854A mutation was rare in NSCLC patients and our retrospective study provides clinical evidence that osimertinib may be an effective treatment to improve survival outcomes in patients with EGFR T854A.

RESUMO

Age is a major risk factor for developing metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. There is an unprecedented rise in obesity and type 2 diabetes in recent decades. A convincing majority of brain-gut peptides are associated with a higher risk to develop metabolic disorders, and may contribute to the pathophysiology of age-related metabolic diseases. Accumulating basic studies revealed an intriguing role of kisspeptin and galanin involved in the amelioration of insulin resistance in different ways. In patients suffered from obesity and diabetes a significant, sex-related changes in the plasma kisspeptin and galanin levels occurred. Kisspeptin is anorexigenic to prevent obesity, its level is negatively correlative with obesity and insulin resistance. While galanin is appetitive to stimulate food intake and body weight, its level is positively correlative with obesity, HOMA-IR and glucose/triglyceride concentration. In turn, kisspeptin and galanin also distinctly increase glucose uptake and utilization as well as energy expenditure. This article reviews recent evidence dealing with the role of kisspeptin and galanin in the pathophysiology of age-related metabolic diseases. It should be therefore taken into account that the targeted modulation of those peptidergic signaling may be potentially helpful in the future treatment of age-related metabolic diseases.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: It was reported that chemerin as an adipocyte-secreted protein could regulate bone resorption and bone formation. However, the specific molecular and gene mechanism of the chemerin role is unclear. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of chemerin in bone metabolism. METHODS: In the present study, we investigated the effects of chemerin on bone remodeling in rarres2 knockout (Rarres2-/-) mice and examined the role of chemerin as a determinant of osteoblast and osteoclast differentiation in Mc3t3-E1 and Raw264.7 cell lines. RESULTS: The results showed that the bone mineral density and volume score, trabecular thickness, weight and bone formation marker BALP increased, but Tb.Sp and bone resorption marker TRACP-5b decreased in Rarres2-/- mice. Furthermore, the mRNA and protein expression of biomarkers of osteoblasts (ß-catenin, RANKL and OPG) significantly increased, but those of osteoclasts (CTSK and RANK) decreased in Rarres2-/- mice. In vitro, chemerin markedly suppressed ß-catenin and OPG, but increased RANKL, CTSK and RANK expression. Moreover, knockdown of chemerin using RNA interference enhanced osteoblastogenesis genes and inhibited osteoclastogenesis genes in Mc3t3-E1 and Raw264.7 cells. CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, these data suggest an inhibitive effect of chemerin on osteoblast differentiation and proliferation through inhibition of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling, as well as a stimulative effect of chemerin on osteoclast differentiation and proliferation via activation of RANK signaling. The maintenance of a low chemerin level may be a strategy for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

RESUMO

Chemerin, an adipocyte-secreted adipokine, is hypothesized to participate in energy homeostasis and glucoregulation. However, the physiologic effect of endogenous chemerin on glucose metabolism is unclear. The present studies tested the hypotheses that chemerin deficiency alters whole-body glucose homeostasis following switches to high-fat diet. Adult, male chemerin knockout and C57BL/6J control wild type mice were studied. During the following 4 weeks, chow- or high-fat diet maintained chemerin knockout mice showed elevated fasting glucose levels and glucose intolerance as well as insulin intolerance. Chemerin deficiency impaired adaptation to glucose and insulin challenge, leading to increased glucose levels. Moreover, the mRNA and protein levels of GLUT4 and PGC-1α expression in both skeletal muscle and adipose tissue were significantly decreased in chemerin knockout mice relative to the wild type, respectively. Taken together, the results support the hypotheses that chemerin helps adapt glucose metabolism to changes in dietary fat and modulates glucose consumption in mice by activation of PGC-1α/GLUT4 axis. Chemerin may play a significant role in elevation of glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity to promote glucose clearance.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: We tried to investigate whether electroacupuncture (EA) can reduce inflammation of dry eye disease (DED) by regulating α7nAChR and inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway. METHODS: Healthy New Zealand white rabbits were treated with scopolamine hydrobromide (Scop) for 21 consecutive days to establish the DED animal model. After 21 days, EA, fluorometholone (Flu), and α7nAChR antagonist (α-BGT) treatments were performed, and the Scop injection was continued until day 35. During treatment, the fluorescence staining of the corneal epithelium and the level of tear flow were observed. The influence of EA on the LG pathology and inflammatory factors ACh, α7nAChR, and NF-κB was detected using the LG histopathology, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), cytokine protein chip technology, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and Western blot. RESULTS: The EA stimulation can reduce the corneal epithelial damage and repair epithelial cell ultrastructure, promote the tear secretion, relieve the LG atrophy and decrease lipid droplet accumulation in LG acinar cell, and reduce the levels of inflammatory cytokines (i.e., IL-1, MIP-1b, TNF-α, and IL-8) in the LG. The protective effect of EA on the inflammation and the ocular surface is similar to the corticosteroid Flu. EA and Flu can upregulate the expression of the α7nAChR and downregulate the expression of NF-κB. The α7nAChR antagonist α-BGT can reverse the protective effect of EA on the LG and the inhibitory effect on the NF-κB pathway and the expression of inflammatory factors but cannot affect the expression of Flu on the NF-κB pathway and inflammatory factors. CONCLUSION: These results prove that EA can alleviate DEDs by stimulating the acupoints around the eyes. These beneficial effects are related to the upregulation of α7nAChR and the downregulation of NF-κB in the LG. The protective effect of LG is mediated through the anti-inflammatory pathway mediated by α7nAChR. EA can reduce the NF-κB P65 nuclear transcription and reduce inflammatory factors by regulating α7nAChR. This expression indicates that the α7nAChR/NF-κB signaling pathway may serve as a potential therapeutic target for EA to treat DEDs.

RESUMO

CNT/VS2-MoS2 with a multi-interface structure shows significantly enhanced catalytic activity compared with MoS2, CNT/MoS2, CNT/VS2 and VS2-MoS2, including a low overpotential of -215 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and a small Tafel slope of 64 mV dec-1. The enhanced catalytic activity could be ascribed to the multiple interfaces in CNT/VS2-MoS2, which can promote charge transfer and yield abundant active sites. This study provides a valuable route to improve the catalytic performance of two-dimensional electrocatalysts.

RESUMO

The absorption layer is a crucial factor for high-performance perovskite solar cells. In this work, the influence of the two components, methylammonium iodide (MAI) and formamidinium iodide (FAI) on the morphology, optical absorption and photovoltaic performances was systematically investigated. The results revealed that the surface morphologies of MAI/FAI based perovskite films were rougher, and the grain sizes became larger with increasing the FAI concentration. UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectra showed that there was a red shift with enhancing the FAI concentration. By the effective doping of FAI into the pristine MAI based perovskite film, the formation of a δ-FAPbI3 was successfully inhibited. As a result, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the perovskite solar cells based on mixed absorption layers was improved by about 27% compared to the pristine MAI based perovskite device.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of acupuncture on expression of transforming growth factor-ß1(TGF-ß1) in lacrimal gland of rabbits with dry eye, so as to explore its underlying mechanism in improving dry eye. METHODS: Healthy male New Zealand rabbits were randomly assigned to 5 groups (n=6 in each group), namely, blank group, model group, western medicine group, acupuncture group and sham acupuncture group. The dye eye rabbit model was estabilished by subcutaneous injection of Scopolamine Hydrobromide solution for 21 days. After modeling, rabbits in the western medicine group were treated with Flumirone eye drops in their eyes 3 times a day, one drop each time. Rabbits of the acupuncture group reveived electroacupuncture(4 Hz/20 Hz, 1 mA) at "Cuanzhu"(BL2) and "Tongziliao"(GB1) for 15 min, and received acupuncture at "Jingming"(BL1), "Taiyang" (EX-HN5) and "Sizhukong"(TE23) for 15 min, once a day. Rabbits of the sham acupuncture group received blunt acupuncture at the surface of the same acupoints once a day. All the treatments were conducted for 14 days. The changes of tear flow, tear film break-up time (BUT) and lacrimal gland morphology in each group were observed. The expression of TGF-ß1 protein and mRNA in lacrimal gland were detected by Western blot and quantitative real-time fluorescence PCR respectively. RESULTS: Following modeling, except for the blank group, the tear flow and BUT in other 4 groups decreased significantly (P<0.01). Compared with their own pretreatment, the tear flow and BUT in western medicine group and acupuncture group increased after the treatment (P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the tear flow and BUT increased in the western medicine group and the acupuncture group(P<0.05). Atrophic lacrimal epithelial cells and the stroma of mucous membrane infiltrated by lymphocytes and plasma cells were found in rabbits of the model group and the sham acupuncture group. By contrast, in the western medicine group and the acupuncture group, the structure of lacrimal epithelial cells was basically normal, and the infiltration of lymphocytes and plasma cells were scattered in the stroma of mucous membrane. In comparison with the blank group, the expression of TGF-ß1 protein and mRNA in lacrimal gland were significantly up-regulated in the model and sham acupuncture groups (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the expression of TGF-ß1 protein and mRNA were significantly down-regulated in the western medicine and acupuncture groups (P<0.01, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture intervention can increase tear flow and BUT in rabbits with dry eye, which may be related to the regulation of TGF-ß1 expression in lacrimal gland.

RESUMO

The effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of dry eye has been confirmed, but the association between acupoint selection and therapeutic effect has remained to be elucidated. In the present study, a systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to evaluate the effect of periocular acupoints and periocular acupoints plus body acupoints compared with AT for the treatment of dry eye disease (DED). The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Ovid, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chonqing VIP Information, Co., Ltd. databases were searched with entries until 10 July 2018 considered. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. Meta-analyses were performed to compare the effects of acupuncture with those of conventional treatment (including AT or other non-acupuncture therapies). The primary outcomes, including tear break-up time (BUT), Schirmer's I test (SIT) result and Symptom scores were analyzed. Subgroup analysis was performed for periocular acupoints only and periocular acupoints plus body acupoints. A total of 12 studies comprising 900 participants were included. In the primary meta-analysis, a significant improvement in the BUT [n=1,209, weighted mean difference (WMD)=1.01, 95% CI: 0.56-1.84, P<0.00001], SIT result (n=1,107, WMD=1.98, 95% CI: 0.44-3.34, P<0.00001) and Symptom scores (n=402, WMD=-1.02, 95% CI: -1.33 to -0.72, P<0.00001) was obtained to evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and AT. Furthermore, periocular acupoints plus body acupoints were more effective in the treatment of DED. However, the total sample size of subjects with only periocular acupoints in the treatment of DED was too small to get any firm conclusions. Further large RCTs are warranted.

This work presents an inverted planar NH2CH = NH2PbI3 (FAPbI3) perovskite solar cell. FAPbI3 perovskite and phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) are deposited on the PEDOT:PSS/fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate by the single-step method. The perovskite films have been characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD). The FAPbI3 solar cell with short-circuit current density (Jsc) = 14.48 mA/cm², open-circuit voltage (Voc) = 0.88 V, fill factor (FF) = 68%, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) = 8.62%, respectively.

RESUMO

Regulating the temperature during the direction contact and intercalation process (DCIP) for the transition from PbI2 to CH3NH3PbI3 modulated the crystallinity, crystal grain size and crystal grain orientation of the perovskite films. Higher temperatures produced perovskite films with better crystallinity, larger grain size, and better photovoltaic performance. The best cell, which had a PCE of 12.9%, was obtained on a film prepared at 200 °C. Further open circuit voltage decay and film resistance characterization revealed that the larger grain size contributed to longer carrier lifetime and smaller carrier transport resistance, both of which are beneficial for solar cell devices.

RESUMO

Two-inch-sized perovskite crystals, CH3 NH3 PbX3 (X=I, Br, Cl), with high crystalline quality are prepared by a solution-grown strategy. The availability of large perovskite crystals is expected to transform its broad applications in photovoltaics, optoelectronics, lasers, photodetectors, LEDs, etc., just as crystalline silicon has done in revolutionizing the modern electronics and photovoltaic industries.

RESUMO

Abamectin resistance was selected in the vegetable leafminer, Liriomyza sativae (Blanchard) (Diptera: Agromyzidae) under laboratory conditions, and cross-resistance patterns and possible resistance mechanisms in the abamectin-resistant strains (AL-R, AF-R) were investigated. Compared with the susceptible strain (SS), strain AL-R displayed 39-fold resistance to abamectin after 20 selection cycles during 25 generations, and strain AF-R exhibited 59-fold resistance to abamectin after 16 selection cycles during 22 generations. No cross-resistance to cyromazine was found in both abamectin-resistant strains. However, we failed to select for cyromazine resistance in L. sativae under laboratory conditions by conducting 17 selection cycles during 22 generations. However, moderate levels of cross-resistance to abamectin (6-9 fold) were observed in strains which received cyromazine treatments. Biochemical analysis showed that glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity in both abamectin-resistant strains (AL-R, AF-R) was significantly higher than in the susceptible strain (SS), suggesting metabolically driven resistance to abamectinin L. sativae. Recommendations of mixtures or rotation of cyromazine and abamectin should be considered carefully, as consecutive cyromazine treatments may select for low-level cross-resistance to abamectin.
